Scruples question - stealing baby names???

hello - just a little scruples question for everyone.

When my BF and I were both pregnant I said very early on which name I would choose if I had a girl.
Its quite unusal so not one that would quickly spring to mind.
Anyway few months later BF rang rather sheeplishly and announced that her and her DH had decided that they really liked it and it was now their favourite.
Few weeks later they had a girl and did give her this name.
As it happens I had boys so wasnt that much of an issue (and apart from this she is a wonderful friend so would never want something like that to ruin our relationship)BUT have to admit I did think it was a bit odd and nothing that I would have done.

Anyone else done something similar - or if it happened to you would you be a bit miffed????

As I say its all water under the bridge but my sister just brought it up in conversation at the weekend when she joked about it.

I bought a copy for my mum for mothers day...definitely a woman's book, spread the word....

Blackduck · 14/04/2004 21:44

collegue of mine has a Reuben and a Zebulin (sp???) - we are worried he's working on the full set!

Vee33 · 14/04/2004 21:45

who wrote the Red Tent, what's it about?

Blackduck · 14/04/2004 21:46

aloha - hadn't read your message - truely the guy I work with has called his second son Zebulan......because he's Reuben's brother...

gemilou · 14/04/2004 21:47

already started spreading the word, bought a copy for smil for birthday last year and have lent my copy out

Joseph is lovely, i considered that for ds, but most people gave me funny looks when i told them. He has his grandads name now.
Dd1 was going to be Nikita which was quite unusual i think. I changed my mind at the last minute though (very last min, was in theatre).
Dd2 has a very popular name, has just been knocked of the top of the girls names. Dp picked it though, trust him to pick something common

gemilou · 14/04/2004 21:49

i think it was anits diamont, and its about joseph's (jesus' dad) sister and basically her life story

Jimjams · 14/04/2004 21:49

The Red Tent won my book club "book of the year and a half" award. I was very proud as I chose it It is fantastic.

MADDI · 14/04/2004 21:50

By Anita Diamant, the story of Dinah from the bible but lots about women and children and giving birth...fantastic if you are a mum.Turns a bit bloody though.

gemilou · 14/04/2004 21:50

that should be anita shrieve ( Ill check)

Jimjams · 14/04/2004 21:50

No it's about dreamcoat Joseph's sister Leah- she makes a couple of lines in the Bible (I looked them up after reading the book).

aloha · 14/04/2004 21:50

Tee hee! Watch out, the next one will be Naphtali
I like Joseph. It's a family name. Lots of John Josephs.

aloha · 14/04/2004 21:51

And my name is Leah!

if his partner has her way there will be a next one...not sure about hime thou'.......I like Leah - considered it if ds had been a dd...

Jimjams · 14/04/2004 21:54

Oh yeah I think you're right Twiglett- hang on I'll grab my copy!

Jimjams · 14/04/2004 21:55

OK it's written by ANita Diamant and the main character is Jospeh's sister- Dinah! (Leah's daughter).

Vee33 · 14/04/2004 21:55

Sounds good - I'll check it out (used to know more about books before children).

I like Joseph too, which dh has approved (if we ever have another son) and Reuben (which won't get past him).

Jimjams · 14/04/2004 21:55

Now I'm saying Jo-phes- kind of.

aloha · 14/04/2004 21:55

it is true, sadly. Leah had crossed eyes and he married her when she was wearing a very thick veil

Jimjams · 14/04/2004 21:56

oh Maddi's way ahead of me!

gemilou · 14/04/2004 21:57

It is definatly anita diamont, I havent got my copy to check so i had to go on amazon

Vee33 · 14/04/2004 21:58

I really liked Martha when I was pregnant with dd2 - this got criticised by everyone I mentioned it to.(not sure she suits Martha anyway).
