Enid

I have suddenly decided that I love this name above all others and frankly don't care what DP thinks on the matter.

The only weensy hitch is I'm not sure about the assonance that exists when it's used with my surname: Enid Stephens.

Thoughts?

You can tell me your thoughts on Enid too, if you like. Though I shan't listen to you unless you are wholly positive about it, obviously. Wink

I love Enid it's a beautiful name Smile

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:44

Ena Stephens? Is that EEE-nah or ENN-ah?

If it's EEE-nah then I declare you to be a piss-taker, lady.

I have a horror of names beginning with 'Eva'. Sounds like kittens.

I LOVE Agnes but don't like Enid at all, sorry. Ignore me!

MuffTheMagicDragonButter · 18/03/2014 20:47

No, it's definitley EEEEEE-nah, but somehow I think it gets away with the assonance better than Enid.

Same with Evadne, I'm not sure it's the repeated 'ee' that's the problem.

Honestly, I really am trying to assist! Grin

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:48

Ok, here are the variables:

  1. Enid (name she'll be called all the damn time)
  1. Enid Stephens (name she'll use a good bit)
  1. Enid Marian Stephens (name she'll rarely use, only on formal docs)
  1. Agnes and Enid (sibling names together)
  1. Agnes and Enid Stephens (sibling names together with surname)

Issues?

  1. That's for you to decide, it's your 83 year old woman child.

  2. Not disastrous, not like Robert Robertson or anything

  3. Nowt wrong there, but, as you say, whoever takes any notice of middle names

  4. Perfectly charming

  5. The addition of Agnes hasn't mitigated point 2), but see point 2.

Only1scoop · 18/03/2014 20:53

Perfect Op question your choice no further

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 20:53

Come back, Furlined! I'm only being mean because I haven't eaten within the last ninety seconds! Mea Culpa!

You couldn't call your second daughter Edith, even if you liked it, unless you are actively channelling Gru from Despicable Me.
I have been won over by the name Enid, and Agnes and Enid is seriously hardcore. I see them in my crystal ball, sixteen years from now, wearing whatever the equivalent is of full-on grungewear, and toting an electric bass (Agnes) and a tenor saxophone (Enid).

MuffTheMagicDragonButter · 18/03/2014 21:08

Good point Bluestocking, but then OP could go for number 3 and use Margot, which is lovely.

I do think having an Agnes actually adds something to Enid, if that makes sense.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 18/03/2014 21:08

:)

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 21:12

Yes. That's what I'm after! Unequivocal affirmation all the way.

My girls will be super kickarse. They will not be called the likes of Ellie.

So my friend is stupid wrong allowed to disagree with my name choice of course, but MN is agreed that Agnes and Enid is the coolest sibset ever?

OP posts:
Parmenides · 18/03/2014 21:15

I like Margot. Maybe I'll have another baby after this one. Beats going to work.

Yeah, you should be. I'm about twenty seven stone and haven't had any wine for eight months.

I like Enid but prefer Edna

Edna Stephens sounds better IMO.

I also think Marian looks better as Marianne

Edna Marianne Stephens

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 21:23

Ha! DD put in a late appearance because I think she'd started to get an inkling of the shambles I was going to make of parenting her. Nothing to do with her name. She is disdainful of anything classic. Her doll is called Telephone Stephens.

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 21:26

I'm not keen on 'ah' endings as a rule. Also I can't resist cheap puns and would be constantly threatening Edna Vice.
