I have suddenly decided that I love this name above all others and frankly don't care what DP thinks on the matter.

The only weensy hitch is I'm not sure about the assonance that exists when it's used with my surname: Enid Stephens.

Thoughts?

You can tell me your thoughts on Enid too, if you like. Though I shan't listen to you unless you are wholly positive about it, obviously. Wink

I haven't read the entire thread in case people are being mean about this name Smile. I absolutely LOVE the name Enid on many fronts - my favourite author EVER, my kids' favourite author EVER and the name of a very dear (sadly deceased) elderly woman I knew.

(I don't like Maude though)

Catsmamma · 18/03/2014 22:09

how are you supposed to say it..i never know

EeeeNid or Ee-nah (surely not Ee-narr?)

I like the Ee-nah pron. best.

Catsmamma · 18/03/2014 22:10

and now i am

eee-nar....eeeenarrrr ....eeeennnnaaaaaaaaaaaaarrr-ing like a mad minion.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 18/03/2014 22:12

Hmm to Enid - sorry. There is something clunky about it. That's why Agnes improves it.

Call her Muriel. Or Ragnar.

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:13

What? Ee-nah? That would be entirely wrong. Ee-nid. EE-NID.

Great, isn't it?

Mabel is GREAT.

Agnes and Mabel.

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:14

It's not clunky. It's steel coated.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 18/03/2014 22:15

On the Ragnar theme, you could go Icelandic and have Hildur.

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:15

Mabel shmabel. Too Islington for my liking.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 18/03/2014 22:16

But how would you feel about her ending up shortened to Eee?

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:16

She might be nick-named Mo.

OP posts:
AlternativeMoniker53 · 18/03/2014 22:19

Hildegarde?

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 18/03/2014 22:19

Did you just go off Ramona? That's a good one. How about Merryn? Aggie and Merry.
Priscilla!

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:19

(As in Eeny Meeny Miney Mo)

OP posts:
BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 18/03/2014 22:20

Eee-Mo?

Frieda?

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:20

I still really like Ramona. But Enid has captured my heart. Mind you, I'm eight months pregnant - I could say the same about Dairylea on toast.

OP posts:
Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:22

We call Agnes by her full name mainly, but sometime Aggie or Ags.

Aggie and Mo is cool.

Merry is fucking revolting though I don't mind Merryn.

OP posts:
Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:22

No to Frieda.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 18/03/2014 22:23

Hmm. You have to be careful about mad 8-month choices. Agnes and Ramona are brilliant. I think the mist might clear from Enid in a few months time and you might regret it...

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 18/03/2014 22:25

I think part of the problem with Enid is that although it's unusual, it's still a short name beginning with E - ie basically the girl name craze of the decade. Ellie. Eva. Esme. Ella. Evie. Enid!

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:26

No, I genuinely love Enid.

Also genuinely love Dairylea on toast, of course. But not same thing at all.

Artandco · 18/03/2014 22:27

Ida
Hazel
Elsa
Vivienne
Opal

Parmenides · 18/03/2014 22:27

Is that really a problem though? I'm not exactly calling her Olivia.

Cezella · 18/03/2014 22:33

Agnes and Enid- I want to hate them OP but I love them!

OddFrog · 18/03/2014 22:33

Enid is utterly brilliant. (D)H vetoed it for us, so I'll throw Sylvia into the mix as it's my lovely DD's name and also Esther, which I love. I'm not wild about Ramona, but the nn Mo is pulling me round.
