We are expecting twin girls in July and are obviously already stressing about names Shock OH likes Berlin for one but I'm not so sure... Is it a proper name? Is it a bit out there? Will it grow on me? We were thinking middle name Beatrix so I suppose she could use that....Thanks

Berliner means jam doughnut in German.

Butterscotchcrumbles · 22/02/2014 15:28

I think Beatrix is much nicer - can you use that as the first name?

RalphRecklessCardew · 22/02/2014 15:29

How about Frankfurt?

JazzAnnNonMouse · 22/02/2014 15:29

Beatrix is much nicer

SirChenjin · 22/02/2014 15:30

You will spend the rest of your lives being asked if she was conceived there - plus it's not a real name, it's the name of a city. If neither bother you, go for it.

NigellasDealer · 22/02/2014 15:34

how about Frankfurt an der Oder?

MaMattoo · 22/02/2014 15:34

No!! I have a friend called Paris and she hates it. People made fun all through school and univ.
Beatrix - beautiful!!

eeyore2911 · 22/02/2014 15:35

Yeah we had the 'conceived in' thought but didn't really think Benidorm would be appropriate.....Wink

sorry but 'Berlin' as a girls name?
is he having a laugh?
it is dreadful!

wyrdyBird · 22/02/2014 15:41

No....town names are interesting but not all are appealing. Don't land her with Berlin (people will say, 'eh? Belinda, is it?' etc) :-)
Beatrix is far better, a lovely name.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 22/02/2014 15:54

Is it the sound or the association with the place he likes? If he likes the sound the Spanish name Belen is the closest I can think of. But I wouldn't use Berlin as a name - I seem to recall it was a rubbish 80s pop group, and also the name of many a bad nightclub in the same era (showing my age!)

mervynmouse · 22/02/2014 16:46

Sorry Op but it's a ridiculous name Grin

AGoodPirate · 22/02/2014 16:47

I am the only one I see but I like it!
I don't like it with Beatrix though.

JeanSeberg · 22/02/2014 16:47

Ich bin Berlin(er)

IslaValargeone · 22/02/2014 16:49

I like it too.

LaTrucha · 22/02/2014 16:49

There is a Spanish name, Belen. Would he go for that?

IslaValargeone · 22/02/2014 16:49

Don't use it with Beatrix though.

SauceForTheGander · 22/02/2014 16:50

Hamburg as the middle name?

scarletforya · 22/02/2014 16:51

It's awful Op, sorry. Very unfeminine.

Beatrix is ok.

nf1morethanjustlumpsandbumps · 22/02/2014 16:52

I know someone who called their DD that recently. I had a Katie Hopkins moment but smiled instead.

NigellasDealer · 22/02/2014 16:53

I understand the attraction of the word, but as a girl's name.....no.
