Berlin for a girls name!?

We are expecting twin girls in July and are obviously already stressing about names Shock OH likes Berlin for one but I'm not so sure... Is it a proper name? Is it a bit out there? Will it grow on me? We were thinking middle name Beatrix so I suppose she could use that....Thanks

Sorry but it's another Confused no from me too. You might get away with it if you are famous or really rich with a double barrelled surname but otherwise it sound too harsh and trying to hard.

scottishmummy · 22/02/2014 21:21

Berlin Beatrix?oh that's dreadful
Unless you're in some media luvvie job with the other out there names parents
But If you are going for place names with b
Blantyre pronounced blan-tir
Bellshil
Bothwell
Bolton
Brummie

You beat me to it wrt Linden Coffeeinbed.

JeanSeberg · 22/02/2014 21:27

I like Linden and Rose and I like your lateral thinking coffee.

BettyBotter · 22/02/2014 21:28

Definitely 'out there' but a lovely place. I'd only go for it if
a) you have very special personal associations with the city and
b) you have an equally out there non-name funky name for her sister

It wouldn't be fair to have a Berlin and an Imogen for example.

Agree, excellent as a middle name though.

scottishmummy · 22/02/2014 21:28

If you already anticipate she'll not like Berlin, and Beatrix is back up name don't do it

Badvoc · 22/02/2014 21:33

Just....no.

coffeeinbed · 22/02/2014 21:34

I blame the Wine

deelite72 · 22/02/2014 21:38

Great city, one of the best! Dreadful name. Don't do it. She'll HATE it. You'll kill her confidence with a name that will have meaning for you but not for her. She's her own entity, her own person with her whole life ahead of her. Give her a name to be proud of.

SadFreak · 22/02/2014 21:44

Well if your surname isnt Wall it may be OK.

Other options are:
Brussels
Bristol
Budapest
Bern
Barcelona
Birmingham
Bradford
Bath
Bremen
Bucharest
Bruges
Belfast
Belgrade
Bergen
Bilbao
Bratislava
Brighton
Berwick-on-Tweed

Take my breath away Grin. I like unusual names and whole I think Berlin has a nice sound to it I do think you'll get a lot of Hmm faces.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 22/02/2014 21:48

No.

ohabi · 22/02/2014 22:01

i like it

LongWayRound · 22/02/2014 22:03

You might like to choose one of the cities Berlin is twinned with for the other twin:

Los Angeles - Paris - Madrid - Istanbul - Warsaw - Moscow - Budapest - Brussels - Jakarta - Tashkent - Mexico City - Beijing - Tokyo - Buenos Aires - Prague - Windhoek - London

Any inspiration there?

Martorana · 22/02/2014 22:09

"It wouldn't be fair to have a Berlin and an Imogen for example."

Why- because Berlin would be so jealous of her sister having a proper human beings's name?

NinjaCow · 22/02/2014 22:09

I know a Berlin, but she doesn't like the name. Sydney? London? Odessa? Sofia?

moggiek · 22/02/2014 22:10

Just NO!

honeybeeridiculous · 22/02/2014 22:10

Belen? Surely they would get called bellend Grin

VeryStressedMum · 22/02/2014 22:12

MrsBennetsEldest - Belen sounds too close to bellend..I was crying with laughter Grin

sonlypuppyfat · 22/02/2014 22:16

Ha ha ha cheered me right up this has.

Puddles1234 · 22/02/2014 22:17

Berlin?! Is that a joke?

I abhor children's names that are cities or places of interest. They are so tacky.

However Beatrix is just lovely. Maybe go with that and spare your poor child years of ridicule.

starlight1234 · 22/02/2014 22:17

No sorry does not sound in the slightest feminine...

PoshPaula · 22/02/2014 22:20

Oh please. No.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/02/2014 22:25

I like it

Try Warsaw for a boy or maybe Gaza or Bogside

mathanxiety · 22/02/2014 23:30

Bad Wimpfen is badder than any of the above suggestions...
