We are expecting twin girls in July and are obviously already stressing about names Shock OH likes Berlin for one but I'm not so sure... Is it a proper name? Is it a bit out there? Will it grow on me? We were thinking middle name Beatrix so I suppose she could use that....Thanks

There's a place called Groitzsch in Saxony.

Twins Buda and Pest? Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau? Ross and Cromarty?

Tallinn and Riga might be OK... and Vilnius for a boy's name

We get the 'is that where she was conceived' question about DD2 and her name is an actual name, as well as a city (admittedly we only get this from people that don't realise the city was named after a person). Would that bother you? Does Berlin hold any special significance for you?

'Berloo' was a popular nickname for 'Beryl' at one time.

Must say that I think 'Linden' is a prettier option. Linden trees are very graceful, and linden blossom has a lovely perfume. To me, Berlin has associations of the Berlin Wall and consequent human suffering. Or else it has tacky Sally Bowles/Cabaret echoes (I hated the film and did not find it glamorous).

But perhaps you could use Berlin as a middle name if the city - which is of course also very splendid and historical - has special associations for you.
