Hi
I like the name Tabitha Jasmine but prefer the spelling Tabitha Jasmyn. Am I crazy? Honest opinions please....

Poncy, sorry

MumToOneMogwai · 20/07/2013 21:20

it's beautiful spelt properly...why tinker with it?

PuggyMum · 20/07/2013 21:30

I'm not a fan of tinkering with spellings.

But Jasmine is lovely.

QOD · 20/07/2013 21:32

I don't mind it, I love the name but Jasmine is always read as Jas mine in my head. I like it without the e so Jasmin or Jasmyn is fine by me.
Middle name anyway so do what you want.
Adore Tabitha btw

ExcuseTypos · 20/07/2013 21:33

Agree with everyone else.

Just leave the spelling as it is. Tabitha Jasmine is lovely.

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 20/07/2013 21:39

Oh how euneek Hun
Hmm x

Wbdn28 · 20/07/2013 21:39

Leave the spelling as Jasmine.

Bunbaker · 20/07/2013 21:43

Sorry, but any future teacher will think that she has thick or dyslexic parents, or ones that are trying too hard to be different.

Like some of the others I am not a fan of tinkering with spellings either. Besides, you will constantly have to correct other people's spelling of the name.

ThePieSmuggler · 20/07/2013 21:46

Poncy in my opinion. Just looks naff spelt like that.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/07/2013 21:48

Don't mess with the spellings of names - what's the point?

PreciousPuddleduck · 20/07/2013 21:49

Jasmine is much nicer

ExcuseTypos · 20/07/2013 21:53

Bun I think that's rather harsh. I work n a school and the teachers I work with wouldn't be so judgemental.

I don't find it poncy but I don't like made up spellings and think Jasmine is a beautiful name as it is. Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/07/2013 21:55

Not poncy - just a bit silly imho.

Smartiepants79 · 20/07/2013 21:56

Silly spelling.

lemontwist · 20/07/2013 21:56

Awful, sorry. The name is fine but I really dislike mis-spelt names. Also poor child would be constantly correcting people.

scottishmummy · 20/07/2013 21:56

Why would you purposefully spell a name wrong
It's not quirky,it's not individual

BOF · 20/07/2013 21:56

It's not poncey, it's just wrong.

ceramicunicorn · 20/07/2013 21:57

Not poncy, chavvy. Lovely name when spelt correctly.

Oldandcobwebby · 20/07/2013 22:09

Please don't spell your daughter's name incorrectly. Please. Stop it. Stop it now.

lucybrad · 20/07/2013 22:42

and if we used Jayne - this would be the same thing then?

OP posts:
BOF · 20/07/2013 22:45

No, because Jayne is an acceptable spelling.

scottishmummy · 20/07/2013 22:45

What do you want honest opinion or argument with posters
Jayne is a minority but recognised spelling of Jane, expect still need to spell it
Jasmyn,it's a lifetime of no m-y-m.just cause you like different spellings

ravenAK · 20/07/2013 23:03

It's a recognised variant spelling, like Jayne, actually:

www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Jasmyn.

But it does seem a bit of a faff to give a middle name which everyone will assume they know how to spell, but will get wrong.

It might be worth the (OK, minor) inconvenience & judginess if you were going to call her Jasmyn as her 'main' name. For a middle name, which you will seldom actually use, it's just something that'll be mildly irritating when it needs spelling out for officialdom her entire life.

But not a big deal either way, & I'd ignore people telling you it's chavvy/naff if you already know you prefer it to the more usual spelling.
