Don´t know if DC3 is a boy or girl yet. 2 ds are called Louis & Oscar, so if its a girl, I want a strong, cool name.
Not keen at all on overly girly names Bella, Billy, Milly, Zilly, Bella, Mella, Molly, Lilly, Mia, Maya...you know what I mean! Beautiful for some, just not for me...
So far I like Mimi (family reasons), Clara (my husband is Spanish) and Indie.
Any other clever MN suggestions?

Straong names for girls for me are Elizabeth, Frances, C/Katherine, Louisa.

argylesocks · 11/06/2013 15:29

What about Marisol or Miriam and you could call her Mimi? I love those names.

We chose Sophia for our girl - means wisdom. I apply the "high court judge" test - i.e. could you see a judge called by that name. Counts out the more "cutesy" ones. If we'd had another girl, we had chosen Isobel as the next name. I also like Alannah (there's a series of childrens books called "Song of the Lionness" where the female protagonist is called Alannah that I really liked as a child), Hypatia (female librarian and philosopher in ancient Alexandria) or Portia (strong female character in the Shakespeare play "Merchant of Venice").

Miriam is quite strong, and then Mimi would work as a nickname.

Ingrid, Astrid, Francesca...

Elspeth

VinegarDrinker · 11/06/2013 15:49

I agree with the classic suggestions: Elizabeth, Catherine, Alexandra etc.

my Grandma is Molly and about the fiercest woman imaginable so I always pmsl at it being cutesy/soft!

Wannabuyawatch · 11/06/2013 15:57

I do think Agnes is nice, and Ines. OK, am cringeing at sounding sad but would like some "cool" factor to the name that you don´t really get with Elizabeth, Francesca etc - Like someone saying, "I know this family who called their daughter a really cool name..."
I quite like Roxy??

Are you a jazz fan btw?

Wannabuyawatch · 11/06/2013 15:58

PS Mumsnet is great isn´t it? I am currently on bed rest for low placenta and bleeding so this is a brilliant way to pass the time!

I'm sort of lol-ing at not wanting girly names but then liking Mimi.

Anyway, if I could pick and DH wasn't his usual arse of a self I'd go with Ramona.

Mimi, Indie and Roxy aren't what I consider to be cool names.

Hester, Violet, Ingrid, Astrid have an edge to them at the moment.

rootypig · 11/06/2013 16:22

Anna - such a beautiful, strong name
