Some lovely names on this thread!

Most names that used to be 'posh' generally become quite mainstream as more and more people use them (explained well in Freakonomics). At the moment I really like Raphael, Quentin, Hugo, Monty, Cordelia, Antonia, Lucia - are they 'posh'?

MyLastDuchess · 22/11/2012 16:59

Poppy My cousin is an Edward and is known as Ned.

Poppy03 · 22/11/2012 17:07

What about Beatrice - posh or not? Nickname besides Bee? and Winifred?

Magnus, Cornelius, Augustus. Clementine, Frances, Tabitha, Hester (I am posh and I wouldn't use any of these names ( except Frances) though I do love them all!)

Lebkuchenlover · 22/11/2012 19:24

"I am posh"

Really - do people really consider themselves posh or chav Shock. What makes you posh? I mean do classes really still in this day and age?!

Lebkuchenlover · 22/11/2012 19:25

forgot the word exist above, sorry.

Lebkuchenlover · 22/11/2012 19:26

But yes, Magnus and Cornelius are lovely names. Not posh imo and in fact very widely used in Scandinavia and Germany.

Gawain for a boy - as in the green knight
Perdita for a girl

Lebkuchenlover · 22/11/2012 19:33

Perdita reminds me of perdu, lost, so not a nice association. Not sure why it is considered posh actually. Penelope is lovely thoug - is that posh?

Badvocsanta · 22/11/2012 19:33

Neat posh nn def buffy
Love octavia, Helena, Julia, Lydia, elinor, Ariadne....

Lebkuchenlover · 22/11/2012 19:38

buffy Confused

almapudden · 22/11/2012 19:50

Perdita is Latin for 'lost', Lebkuchen. I think it's lovely, but I also love Dolores, which means 'sorrows' :)

TheSandstoneCat · 22/11/2012 19:50

Sorry - forgot that humour and irony are banned!

BoyMeetsWorld · 22/11/2012 19:55

Plum as a nn for Victoria. Other posh people I know are called Hugo, Alice, Ptolomy, Hortensia, Camilla...& a lot of Edwards!

FIFIBEBE · 22/11/2012 19:56

Lovely thread. Agree the really posh people I know have very boring names.

henryscatoscar · 22/11/2012 20:00

Surely any name from that made in Chelsea Wink. Hugo or similar will have to be in the top 5 names in Agee years.

ellesabe · 22/11/2012 20:07

Arabella and Montgomery

FloralWellies · 22/11/2012 20:22

Sebastian although DP won't let me call another (imaginary ) DS that as he does not like nn Seb

sillymillyb · 22/11/2012 20:23

Oooh, all the names I wanted for ds were "posh" i blame my hormones my favourites were Hugo, Barnaby or Fergus. He ended up being a Henry though, which was my compromise!

Frikadellen · 22/11/2012 20:26

well I learnt from this thread dh and I are posh as many of our short listed names have been mentioned here..

My personal favourites are

Sholto and Hector (1st shortlisted 2nd dh didn't want)
for girls
Serafina and Persephone (1st one short listed for dd3 and was only just moved off when she was born as she didnt look like a Serafina)

I also like
Ramona, Honoria, Barnaby and Reginald.
