Is Winifred (Winnie) considered posh?

Another one for Araminta nn Minty here

Also love Arabella no nn and Montgomery nn Monty

scarlettsmummy2 · 21/11/2012 23:14

Monty is great! If I ever have a boy I will have to add it to the short list.

LiviaAugusta · 21/11/2012 23:29

I quite like Bartholomew nn Tolly. That and Rufus were my favourites if DC2 had been a boy, DH well and truly vetoed them though Sad.

baskingseals · 22/11/2012 09:05

poppy - it's a nickname for Victoria. I have only heard it used by posh people.

Ulysses · 22/11/2012 09:12

I like Sebastian and Allegra. My Scottish accent just doesn't work with either though!

MarshaBrady · 22/11/2012 09:15

Rupert

Araminta

Ds2's middle name is Rupert. Middle names are a false hope. We never use it, I love it.

lakeofshiningwaters · 22/11/2012 09:17

I love Persephone and Seraphina - would nn both Seffy.

Neither would work with our rough and manly surname! Plus would never be able to convince DH.

MarshaBrady · 22/11/2012 09:17

I might have to have another just so I can actually use Rupert. So lovely.

goralka · 22/11/2012 09:19

Sholto - not that I would use it but it is fabulously posh

Whyriskit · 22/11/2012 09:20

I love Ottilie and Tabitha. Also Jasper for a boy. DH says no.

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 22/11/2012 09:24

I like Carenza, but not sure if it's posh or just regional

I used to like Cressida, Cress for short Smile

ChestnutsRoastingonaWitchesTit · 22/11/2012 09:25

Celia
Margot
Cordelia

Arthur
Bartholomew
Rufus

Wallison · 22/11/2012 09:34

Beatrice. Although really what I like about it is the Spanish way of pronouncing it ('Bay-a-treece'), so that doesn't work in the UK.

Also Hermione. Loved it for years, way before Harry 'bloody' Potter.

TessOfTheBaublevilles · 22/11/2012 09:56

Cressida nn 'Cressy'

MerryMarigold · 22/11/2012 10:00

My kids have 'posh' alter egos when they get dressed up:
ds1 is Rufus
ds2 is Hugo
dd is Luciana

MerryMarigold · 22/11/2012 10:01

(Their real names are not posh. I hate posh names)

butisthismyname · 22/11/2012 10:03

Henrietta, Hettie, Rupert, Bertie . Ony one of mine has a posh name though :(

FrostyTheShosheman · 22/11/2012 10:08

Cordelia just love it

WhoWhatNow · 22/11/2012 10:12

Julian - I went to school with a girl whose brother was called this - we all thought it was the poshest name ever Grin

Xiaoxiong · 22/11/2012 10:16

Sefton, Horatio, Magnus and Vere (some of DH's students).

One for CheerfulYank - I went to university with Lowell Cabot Putnam IV.

frantic51 · 22/11/2012 10:26

Flavia and Tarquin Grin

Pasiphae · 22/11/2012 10:54

My posh choice would be:

Brunhilda nn Hildy and Perceval nn Percy.

Pasiphae · 22/11/2012 10:56

Or maybe Hortensia (Orty) and Rudyard (Rudy).

ILikeRed · 22/11/2012 11:39

Lucius, Crispin, Portia and Araminta....I work in a rather posh school. Jolly hockey sticks!
