What's your mum called?

Thinking about the cyclical nature of names - those that I used to think of as awful 'granny names' when I was younger - Florence, Edith, Mabel etc - are wildly popular now.

I wonder what the equivalent names will be for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren?

My mum is called Christine (I am in my mid 30s).

DM Is Doreen which I can't see coming back although it is apparently a form of Dora/Isadora both of which I have heard in the last few years.
MIL is Megan - very popular 10-15 years ago.

I am 49 and old enough to be DM or MIL to many of you. My name is lovely, an eternal classic and due for a comeback. Grin

my mother was Christine
MIL is South African so I expect it would be very unusual!

I called DD for my Grandmother and mother, although I didn't name her their exact names, I did deviate a little!

My mum is Catherine - I would use Kate as a baby name as my dad used to call my mum Cate so they used it as a middle name for my sister.
My middle name is Ruth and I don't think it ever has been in or gone out of fashion - I teach a Ruth who is 13!

My mum (now 65, er, I think) was christened Jacqueline - she hates it and has always been Jacky.

Is Mabel really popular now? Sad It's my grandma's name and was considering it for the bump.

FanjolinaJolie · 02/11/2012 21:48

My Mum's called Anne and I've just posted about using this if I am having a girl (have not found out yet) Really like it as there are not many about, I have no bad associations with the name (from school etc) it's neither super trendy or very common!

MIL is ~8 years younger and has a lovely 1st name but uses middle name (Tracey), no offence meant to any Traceys but I definitely prefer her 1st name
