There were 84 Christinas and 17 Quentins born last year, Myboots. Lovely, underused names.

Thank you bananaramma. Im surprised they are not more popular actualy. We always get positive reactions to our Dcs names but Quentin is the one most people jump on and comment on how lovely it is.

i know an Agatha :)

I used to teach secondary between 2001 and 2006 - I don't think I ever taught a class without a Jack, a Sam and a Max in it, usually 2 of at least one of those names, but I guess all those children are late teens to 20s now... There were a huge number of Paige, Abi (all short for a spelling of Abigail but all called Abi) and Jade among the girls - I do think it is very regional though.

So many names to choose from and still some parents choose initials for their children!! KC was my personal favourite...
I think it's difficult enough choosing a name without the additional worry that it may rank highly on future lists! I have 5 children and have a mix of popular and unusual names now. DD1 is 19 and her name was so unusual at the time that people always commented on it and it was often mis spelled. Now it's fairly high up the list! DD2 is Lily which everyone said at the time was too old fashioned and my own mother mentioned "Li-Low Lil" from Bread! And now look at Lily - number 3...
I love these lists, love sounding out names. My own name was unusual when I was at school (many years ago!) and still not popular. Sometimes I like that - other times I worry it must be a terrible name! Now when I see that one of my children's names are creeping up the popularity lists, I try to think of it as a compliment!
I have worked in labour suite and there are some real crackers out there though. My personal favourites? Gaz (not short for Gary, just Gaz); CalypsoButterfly; Diesel (I like to think it was after the Thomas the Tank Engine character rather than the designer label) and Tie (like Kai, but Tai, but with a different spelling - that's what she said!)

Plokahontas the twin names crack me up! I am a bit at Isabella and Gabriella though...they could both be called Ellie/Ella!

I do know two sets of m/f twins called Madison and Mason, so I wasn't surprised to see it's the most popular.

Oh great our new favourite for the bump is number 48 (Matilda) although we're abroad so will be spelling it Mathilda... :)

I'm flabbergasted Alfie is so popular, its a cutesy baby name!! I simply cannot imagine a 35/45 year old professional "Alfie" - it's too twee for words....

Same with Charlie - it's a nickname ffs!

CakeBump ofc it'll be ok for little Alfies, Charlies, Archies, Poppies and Daisies when they get to 35/45. There will be many others with similarly cutesy names in the office.

Kimjoy - no, it's a list of all live births registered in England & Wales, so it is the most popular - it's the government stats.

DS's name has gone up the ranks since we had him, although that doesnt bother me too much, it's still unusual enough that there won't be 6 in his class.

DD is 5 now and her name has never appeared on the lists.

Toddling they will be Generation Twee...

It is very interesting to look at the regional differences. I am in Scotland and I have not met one Amelia or Harry. Other names discussed on this board as being common like Oliver or Poppy are rarely heard up here. Every little girl I meet seems to be an Eilidh, Niamh or Abigail and boys Lewis, Cameron or Callum.
Oh and I really like the name Agatha. It was on the maybe list for DD.

My DD played croquet with an Agatha the other day - I really like it too.

myboots, we have a Quentin as well and get complimented on his name. I'm happy it isn't that popular but it did rise from 8 boys in 2010 I think, to 17 last year.

DD's name, however, is rising up the top 100s rapidly whereas it was much rarer when she was born 10 years ago....

The regional stuff is fun!

The top 5 names in America for boys are Jacob, Mason, William, Jayden, Noah.
But in our state we have Benjamin and Liam and no Jayden or Noah.

DS2's name is in the top 30. DS1's is 2,194th (9 babies), alongside Bence, Olliver, Kiyaan, Jesse-James, Tiger, Tommylee, Vlad and (my personal favourite) Dave

One of the names I wanted for DS1 (Thurston) is at the very bottom!
