I also live on a desert island. The only Amelia I know is in her late thirties and I have never met anyone called Jack.

Ephiny · 14/08/2012 15:04

I have never met anyone called Amelia or Jack either. Amelia makes me think of Enid Blyton books, it's really odd to think of people choosing it for their baby girls now. Names do seem to go in cycles though, so maybe some 'old-fashioned' names are coming back.

Interesting that my name is down in the 90s, it was top-3 for years around the 70s/80s!

butisthismyname · 14/08/2012 15:57

dd1's middle name is Amelia.

FoofFighter · 14/08/2012 16:00

My 3 week old granddaughter is called Amelia, the first I have ever heard of so I too am surprised it's that popular. Glad to see the back of Evie, Lily and Olivia though I have to say! (sorry!)

Blipbipbeep · 14/08/2012 16:51

There was not a single child given my name last year. But then I have a very unusual spelling of a name that appears at 692.

No children where give DS1s name either though 602 had a longer version of it.

DS2's name is in the top 100 but I love it and it suits him so perfectly

NellyBluth · 14/08/2012 17:22

1295th for DD. I'm actually hugely intrigued by how more popular some of the odder variations of her name are than her name.

Phaedra11 · 14/08/2012 18:28

I deliberately gave my children names that weren't too unusual (though according to these stats they are becoming more so) because of the pain of always being the only one with my name throughout my whole youth. I desperately wanted to be a Karen or a Claire or a Nicki!

bananaramma · 14/08/2012 18:45

"I have never met anyone called Amelia or Jack either"

Really? You probably don't spend much time with kids then....?!

RubyFakeNails · 14/08/2012 18:54

How can someone never have met any Jacks? Not even as waiters, or out and about? I know quite a few, growing up loads of boys at my school were called Jack. It's really the only other boys name I like apart from the one I used.

I don't exactly know any Amelia's but I've met a few and heard it called at children in shops etc. I spend no time with children other than family if that's relevant.

Ephiny · 14/08/2012 19:15

I honestly can't remember ever meeting anyone called Jack. Don't remember any at school, or university, or among work colleagues or anything. No relatives either. Only one dog.

No I don't spend any time with kids (other than family). Not doubting it's a popular name for young boys now - the statistics speak for themselves!

Phaedra11 · 14/08/2012 20:03

I know several Jacks but none that are older than about twenty. Though apparently my grandad John was called Jack at work to distinguish him from all the other Johns. I think Jack originated as a variation of John.

toboldlygo · 14/08/2012 21:02

Three baby Tequilas.

LimeLeafLizard · 14/08/2012 21:19

Ruby I am a bit surprised myself that I haven't met any Jacks. Of course, a waiter might have been called Jack and not told me his name or I might have had a drunken snog once with a bloke whose name I forgot to ask and he might have been Jack.

I have three little children, spend alot of time at toddler classes, have lots of friends with children, but still don't know of any, even in DS's school.

Either I am a statistical anomoly, or I live unknowingly in a Jack-free enclave, or I will meet at least 10 people called Jack tomorrow to redress the balance!!

(and it is a name I really like, too)

ReelAroundTheOrbit · 14/08/2012 21:33

I love the ones with extra punctuation:

Lily- and Demi- (separate to Lily and Demi)

But my ultimate favourite it MD. Yes - including the "."

ReelAroundTheOrbit · 14/08/2012 21:41

Also - we live in a Jack-free zone too. I've never met one around here at all (though I do know 3 Jacksons Grin). If dc3 had been a boy I was v keen on Jack as it would almost certainly be the only one in its school year. Though of course in the wider world I suppose there will be lots at work etc.

thegreylady · 14/08/2012 21:41

Are there any girls named Agatha?

CheerfulYank · 14/08/2012 21:42

Here are the ones for America. :)

confusedpixie · 14/08/2012 21:52

Three Tia-Marie's and three Tequila's. I can't be the only one who noticed that surely? [shocked]

I like this list, there were only 22 girls with my name and spelling born last year :D

mybootsaremuddy · 14/08/2012 21:54

My computer is playing up and keeps freezing when I try to download lists.

Can someone please look and tell me where my twins names are please (Quentin and Christina). Id like to know as they were born last year.

I think DD1s name is the most popular out of my other DCs its always in the top 50. But it is less common in NZ where she was born. I think DD2s may be in top 100 but the others are outside (unless they've had a massive leap in last year).

Plokahontas · 14/08/2012 21:57

Fascinated by the twins page on the american one - Landon/London. Tyler/Taylor, Jada/Jaden....

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 14/08/2012 22:00

But it's totally different overseas though mybootsaremuddy. Are you a kiwi? I always snigger when I see Milo and Kai. They are just very unfortunate names.

mybootsaremuddy · 14/08/2012 22:05

Yes oneLittleToddlingTerror I am a kiwi but live in UK. DC 1and 2 were born in NZ but the other here in UK.

Devora · 14/08/2012 22:29

thegreylady - I know a little Agatha.
