I've finished with 3 dcs so this is hypothetical for me. i've just been reading a book about a girl called Dora and genuinely thought what a lovely name... untill a little cartoon popped into my head singing 'find the map'.

what other lovely names have been spoilt for you?

Florence (as in Cameron)

TedThrowingPrize · 01/08/2012 23:21

Myra as in Hindley, Raoul as in Moat

Ian - Brady or Huntley. Take your choice. Of course, there's also Beale but that doesn't sell the name much either!

As above but also Madeline, I used to love Maddie, but for me there's only one Maddy/Maddie/Madeline now :(

NutmegKate · 02/08/2012 13:03

MrsLetch Yes but there are always McKellan, Richardson, McShane etc. to redeem the name Ian.

stargirl1701 · 02/08/2012 13:04

Most of them Grin I'm a teacher.

Jordan - DD was going to be Jordan if she were a boy
(15 years ago so before the plastic one was on the telly)

Can you imagine the teasing if I'd had a boy!

civilfawlty · 02/08/2012 13:15

Harper.

Daya · 02/08/2012 13:49

Jade

Harper, I might have had a Harper on my lap right now if the Beckhams hadn't used it 8 months before she was born.

Meredith (poor Meredith Kutcher). Really liked this for dd1 but was at that time and association ruined it.

Housespouse · 02/08/2012 23:26

Lolita

Lottiedonnegan · 02/08/2012 23:27

Flora. Love it, dh just says margarine and Harry Enfield!

HarrietSchulenberg · 02/08/2012 23:29

Ruby. Love it but that bloody Kaiser Chiefs song came out and immediately there were 100 Rubys all over town. Bah!

downbythewater · 02/08/2012 23:32

I just think if you like a name you should use it anyway- once it is your DC's name, that will become the main association of the name for you and people you know. If you look up any name you can always find positive/negative associations somewhere.

FanjoPingpong · 03/08/2012 00:25

Ralph. Sodding Judy Blume ruined that name for me forever.

BackforGood · 03/08/2012 00:29

Like Stargirl - as a teacher, it does tend to rule out lots of names! Grin
But unusual names used about particular girls in songs - Lola, Lolita, Roxanne, etc.

GhouliaYelps · 03/08/2012 00:46

Oh yes Meredith - a beautiful name :(

I always think Tracy is such a beautiful name ( think grace Kelly in high socierty) been totally massacred with over use ESP that dreadful show birds of a feather.

mumnosGOLDisbest · 03/08/2012 01:22

I too am a teacher but agree if you like a name you should use it regardless, however some are just a no no. Dora, Peppa, Rudolph. I do like caspar regardless :)
