I've finished with 3 dcs so this is hypothetical for me. i've just been reading a book about a girl called Dora and genuinely thought what a lovely name... untill a little cartoon popped into my head singing 'find the map'.

what other lovely names have been spoilt for you?

Joshua - 10 years in nursery still waiting to look after a lovely Joshua Grin (however if you have a Joshua i am sure yours is lovely)

I adore Cole and Bella neither i can use because DP doesn't like names that are characters in shows, which essentially rules out every name grrrrr!!

OlympicTeaDrinker · 05/08/2012 19:53

haha Ah Bluemoon I know a couple of awful Ethans but I also know 1 who is lovely and he has a lovely sister called Mia Grin

Also a couple tainted for me because of horrid people in school

My neice is called and amber and her mother picked it when footballers wives was at its peak Confused my niece is a lovely and thankfully the association is no longer there.

TellyBug · 05/08/2012 19:59

Harper. I quite liked it before the Beckham's stole it! I live in fear that a celeb will use my fave names before I get a chance to pop one out!

birdofthenorth · 05/08/2012 20:11

Cameron, thanks to David. Always loved it but ruined now!

Harry/ Harold thanks to Shipman who lived near us (we know lots of the victims families). Myra Hindley was a local too -perhaps we should move!

Leona just because Leona Lewis is so very famous now she owns the name. Carrie, because of the likelihood of people saying "as in Sex and the City?".

Bianca.

I know a truly gorgeous Ethan btw. Cheeky, chatty, very bright.

letseatgrandma · 05/08/2012 22:19

Teacher here too -funny though that it's always the same names who are the badly behaved kids though!

Yes, I agree! It seems to be Connor, Reece/Rhys, Alfie, Luke, Caine/Kaine/Kain/Cain and Daniel round here!

BegoniaBigtoes · 05/08/2012 22:24

Eve - I always dreamed of using it for a girl, when I was young and it was really rare, I loved the meaning and it was so stylish and pure...

Now it feels like almost every little girl is called Eve/Evie and I know several who don't match my dreamy vision! (sorry parents of eves)

To a lesser extent the same thing has happened to my own name too, which used to be rare. Bummer.

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 05/08/2012 22:34

Judas, I love the sound of it but it's just never going to work.

pictish · 05/08/2012 22:35

Chloe and Ryan. Both lovely names...both topping the chav charts for many years now.

StateofConfusion · 05/08/2012 23:20

My dd is Lola, and has Grace as a middle name :(

I knew a syco kid ethan.

Also loved Maddie but couldn't use it now. Agree Bella/Edward/Jacob as its always going to be "twilight?" This time next year there will be loads of Anas and Christians.

Evie yup now owned by chavs.

Amelia was ruined for me after watching a documentary about this woman: -

Sad

duchesse · 06/08/2012 09:09

I have a nearly 3yo Madeleine and practically everyone says "Ooh, like that child that was abducted!". Angry To the extent that we're thinking of adding a name by deed poll to her birth certificate and basically changing it. We always loved Madeleine as a name but some very good friends had a baby Madeleine just after DS was born (he would have been Madeleine if he'd been a girl) and it was too soon to re-use for DD1 and DD2.

serotoninbutterfly · 06/08/2012 09:17

I'm bummed cos my name for my next DS was going to be Christian. And now I can't use it Sad also, my DPs psycho ex named her son the same as my cat (weirdo) but also named her daughter Gracie-May so no accounting for taste (although I really wanted Grace as my DDs name even though I don't have one yet.)

I pull this face Hmm when some of my friends tell me what they have named their kids - Jacob, Oscar, Isabella... Lots of them about at the mo and I dread to think how many of them will be in the same classes at school!

mumnosGOLDisbest · 06/08/2012 10:32

On hols in turkey there was a waiter called Jesus. I know it is a name there but felt very odd to say it.

Read it mum it's no great literary read but it's light and easy to read (designed for mums who can't find time to get 'engrossed' in a novel) and is worth reading just so you know what the hype is about Grin

BlueMoon74 · 07/08/2012 09:51

Yes, I agree! It seems to be Connor, Reece/Rhys, Alfie, Luke, Caine/Kaine/Kain/Cain and Daniel round here!

Oh gosh, YES! AGREE with all of those!! Also Jake and Callum shudder!

Funny isn't it - I've never taught a disruptive William, Charlotte, Elizabeth..or names that are 'seen' as more classic.

Eve/Evie - haven't they just exploded in popularity?! I know what the poster meant when she said they were always such stylish names. I know loads of Evies/Eves, lacking in originality now sadly.

(it does make it very hard for me picking names for our baby due in November, that's for sure!)

FrillyMilly · 07/08/2012 10:38

With Millie I always think of milly dowler but a its very popular. Edward makes me think of jedward!

I know a William who is very loud and disruptive. I knew a Charlotte at school who was the biggest bitch ever.

blibblibs · 07/08/2012 11:03

A sleb picked our boy's name about 6 weeks before we had DS. I cried and cried at the time but still used it and then another sleb used it just after!
Still love the name though.
And we got the idea for our DD's name from a tv soap opera Grin
Love it too though.

xmasevebundle · 07/08/2012 11:03

i love judas too, but the meaning is awful!

WrestlesBadgers · 07/08/2012 11:11

Azaria

(Y'know, "dingo ate my baby...")

MarthasHarbour · 07/08/2012 11:15

I know a really lovely lady called Myra, she was born in mid 60's so around the time. In all honesty i have never shuddered at her name, maybe because she is just lovely.

duchesse how awful that people say that to you Shock

i have a William - he is PFB a delight Smile
