Which Name do you Hate Most?

I hate the name Jane; I'm not saying it's the ugliest name in the world, by a long way (that's probably Griselda), but because of associations. Firstly, it was the name of the most horrible bully at my secondary school; and now, also, there's the Inbetweeners movie, in which the gorgeous Jay gets paired up with a fat plain Jane who is not cute enough for him!

susiedaisy · 03/07/2012 17:06

Oh I forgot Brian and Laurence not keen on them either.

weaselm4 · 03/07/2012 17:12

SPsfanjo what appallingly named families we must have Grin.

Still waiting for DD's name...come on people, I want a full house by bedtime!

pumpkinsweetie · 03/07/2012 17:16

suisydaisy-my mil has one of the names on your list and i dislike her & her name too Grin

SPsFanjoLovesBrokenBiscuits · 03/07/2012 17:17

My family names are common and normal though!

My sons is different but that wasn't mentioned. I mentioned it and no one said anything but bet people are dying too Grin

PenisVanLesbian · 03/07/2012 17:30

Soniboo, no, I'm talking about the fact that the class can be easily determined by the name, in some cases, although its more complicated than that.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 03/07/2012 17:46

That is not a good reason to chose an 'approved' name though PVL
Only a good reason for people who are prejudiced to have a boot up their arse.

squoosh · 03/07/2012 17:48

Lots of the very silliest names belong to posh people. Tiggy, Binky etc.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 03/07/2012 18:05

What's with the Krazy k hating?

I like the name Kelly, reminds me of a girl I was friends with in school who always had lots of sweets. And Kelly Osborne who I think it rather nice.

Don't be kunty about ks!

sonniboo · 03/07/2012 18:10

How on earth is Tiggy any 'sillier' than Tilly, Poppy, Ellie, etc?!

And what do have against posh people Hmm?

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 03/07/2012 18:13

Thank you pickles I hate it because I know a Kelly and she's too good looking and perfect. See her all the time when doing my hair or make up. Grin

That's a burden fanj. Luckily the only person with the same name as me growing up was my 75 year old neighbour. Grin

My neighbour shares same name as me!

PenisVanLesbian · 03/07/2012 18:48

Not liking how the world works doesn't mean it will change.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 03/07/2012 18:55

I am amazed you think that way PVL. You seem pretty up for changing the world in other ways

I think this is an important issue because it isnt about names, its about class and perceptions of class.

Cheriefroufrou · 03/07/2012 18:58

Binke is a traditional yiddish name BTW squoosh

PenisVanLesbian · 03/07/2012 19:00

I agree. (And I am). I just think people are a bit naive about these things...you can call your kid Skywalker Jesus Pop-Idol in a strike against the establishment, but you're really just hurting the kid.
(saddled with a stupid name by hippy parents, its probably the only thing in life I am conservative about)

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 03/07/2012 19:00

Millie.

Yeurgh.

candytuft63 · 03/07/2012 19:03

lovechoc · 03/07/2012 19:09

I am still waiting for someone to put my name on this thread - but I suppose it's so boring no one can be bothered mentioning it.

Frangelica · 03/07/2012 19:22

Elle - not Ellie just Elle. 'L' (the sound of it gives me shudders)
Gina and Claire - have yet to met one that hasn't caused trouble but I remain optimistic!

On the otherhand (in RL) I have yet to meet a Mark or a John that I didn't like Smile

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 03/07/2012 19:24

'stupid hippy names' are one thing but most of the bile on these threads are reserved for Jayden, Kayden, Ellie-Mai, Chantel etc.

They are everyday, normal names in many areas. On MN they are beyond the pale and your child is destined for and deserves the very dregs if you are selfish enough to choose one of them.
That is about class, not airy fairyness.

PenisVanLesbian · 03/07/2012 19:35

I'm sure its partly that, but for some they simply don't like those kind of names. I don't. But then they aren't everyday names where I live .
