Right, I need to get this sorted

40+1 with DC2. If a boy he will be Barnaby, so thats ok. We had decided on Susannah for a girl, to be known as Sukie. However, as soon as I told someone this I had doubts (and not because of their reaction). I am not sure that I don't think Susannah is a bit meh, though i love Sukie. DH won't agree (and I think he is right) to Sukie on bc. This is keeping me awake at night! Maybe there is another name Sukie can be nn for?

I also like:
Clementine
Josephine
Emmeline (DH not convinced though)
Adele

Any thoughts or other suggestions please? Thank you!

Susannah is just gorgeous! It also suits a grown up. I can't imagine being a grown up and called Clementine... It seems silly and is also, frankly, a small citrus fruit!

Josephine is lovely as is Adele but Susnannah is better than both.

Sorry! Susannah is just so classic and lovely, Josephine too. They seem like the sort of name that wouldn't date you to a period of your life. I cannot abide names like Millie or Tilly that are fine for a toddler but not an adult.

I know a Susannah btw and she is a professional pianist. Lovely.

Hmmm the only names for Sukie that haven't been mentioned are Consuela (bit of a long shot maybe but pn con-sway-la) or the Japanese name Asuka.

The only other suggestion is maybe make Sukie as a nn from her first and middle name e.g.
Summer Kate
Sunday Keira
Sunita Kate
Suri Kia
Susette

etc etc

But they may not be the best suggestions!

Sukie reminds me of the True Blood series - I know that's spelled Sookie not Sukie, but I still hear it in a Southern accent - "soohk-ay!"

Josephine is my favourite girls name and if I ever had another dd (doubtful) she'd be Josephine, nn Sephie.

Ok, I like Josephine, and Sephie better than Josie actually.

Also like Lana, I have said that 3 times now and not one acknowledgement

This thread has proper put me off Sukie, having loved it for months!

Susannah is lovely, it's one of the names we are debating for dc2. However, Sukie is beyond vile. Susannah is classy, Sukie sounds like a cat at best.

Lana is nice but there are a lot of short L--a names around at the moment (Lara and Lyra and Lola and Lana and probably some others that I'm forgetting) that it seems as though it might get lost in the trend IYSWIM. But I may just be bitter as all of those were ruled out for us by virtue of too many family members with L...a names already.

Susannah is much nicer than your other choices, especially Josephine and Adele (meh). Sukie is great - but as a nickname only.

I like Sasha but friend has one! I think I will wait and decide when baby is born. I have never known such a divided thread! Guess I need to make a decision myself, gulp.

Any more comments welcome...
