dh loves the name felicity but i dislike this name. he likes it beacuse it's sweet ,feminine yet fun and grown up.dh insists he likes no other name . i dislike it because i find it to sickly sweet and a bit wishy washy .

i love the name cecily because it's sweet , feminine, yet grown up and serious. i have a list of other names i like and could compromise on but dh has vetoed them all. he dislikes it because it's too old fashioned and unusual

in reality they are both very similar names in terms of how they sound sound ,femininity etc

dh after initially insisting on felicity has now agreed i can call her cecily

however , i don't want , to railroad dh into a name he dislikes. i really want to find a compromise we can both love.

problem is dh will not come up with any suggestions and i have given up trying to find a compromise.

so do your best and find us the name of our dreams or at least a few suggestions i can put to dh

I adored Cecily and was set on it until I googled the meaning.

Claudia?
Cicily?
Violet?
Nancy?

What about:

Ianthe (means Violet)
Jessamine (old version of Jasmine)
Cicely (a herb, well, Sweet Cicely is)
Tansy (another herb)
Tamasine
Josephine (nn Posy)

oh dear maybe beehive's meaning might put you off.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 31/10/2010 13:19

We're having another boy, otherwise I wanted Tess or Betsy, we already have a Romilly and a Nancy.

BeehiveBaby · 31/10/2010 13:21

Just remembered that the meaning of Claudia isn't great. Adore Romilly and Tess.

esther didn't work ith our surname

romilly park in dhs home town called this so he vetoed it although i love it

verity and matilda/ tilly dh vetoed it

alicia and amelia too popular for me
felicia too like fellatio and pronounciation issues

cecilia /celia has been considered but dh not convinced . i would be more than happy with either of these . but dh is stubborn awkward

How about Alice? feminine and lovely for a little girl or a grown up. Plus it is not that common at the moment.
Also love Nancy or Olive

Komondor · 01/11/2010 15:11

Go with Cecily - it is beautiful and I bet he will love it in time too.

smilingserenely · 01/11/2010 20:11

thanks paddy

despite it's negatives that is nn cess , meaning blind and what if she has a lisp etc
i still love it . it seems both feminine yet strong imho.

i don't hate the name felicity but i can't imagine felicity as a high court judge , scientist etc it just feels more suited to a ballerina .

if we choose felicity it will always feel second best for me.
