dh loves the name felicity but i dislike this name. he likes it beacuse it's sweet ,feminine yet fun and grown up.dh insists he likes no other name . i dislike it because i find it to sickly sweet and a bit wishy washy .

i love the name cecily because it's sweet , feminine, yet grown up and serious. i have a list of other names i like and could compromise on but dh has vetoed them all. he dislikes it because it's too old fashioned and unusual

in reality they are both very similar names in terms of how they sound sound ,femininity etc

dh after initially insisting on felicity has now agreed i can call her cecily

however , i don't want , to railroad dh into a name he dislikes. i really want to find a compromise we can both love.

problem is dh will not come up with any suggestions and i have given up trying to find a compromise.

so do your best and find us the name of our dreams or at least a few suggestions i can put to dh

I love the name Cecily - it has been my fantasy DD name since I was about 13. Am gutted that it has suddenly started to become more popular again.

However - since it is becoming increasingly unlikely that I will ever get to use it, I graciously get on with suggesting it to others - and if your DH has agreed you can use it, just DO it!

I do see your objections to Felicity (although I quite like that too) and was going to suggest Aurelia but see it's been done. Don't like Augusta, too pompous. Octavia is nice but Skoda have ruined it. :(

What about Emilia? lovely name, would go very well with your surname, I think.

Cerys? Might be a bit Welsh for you (if you're not) but it's lovely, I think.

smiling. Don't make me come over there! You cannot agree to Felicity if you don't like it!

You're saying you don't like one name, and would be happy to compromise and consider lots of others. Your DH is saying he doesn't like hundreds of names, will only consider one, and is therefore insisting on getting his own way. Thump him in the chops!

Sorry OP, but I have to jump in here and stop you. I respect anyone's choice of name for their baby EXCEPT naming it one thing and calling it another. As the daughter and wife of people whose parents thought using the second name was a good idea, I can tell you it is an incredible PITA. Please don't!

smilingserenely · 07/11/2010 20:55

thanks stripey wasn't sure whether it would be problem or not my dad , my fil and bil use their second names but i suspect times have changed .

thanks turtle he came up with a list today would you believe the names of his ex girlfriends . including such 60s gems as alison , donna and patricia .i think he's now just trying to wind me up and i may be taking your advice and thumping him as my patience has now run out .

Sad

That's ridiculous. Hope you gave him a look, and folded your arms across your chest.

Write your own list of 10 names you like and ask him to pick one, and repeat that it's not going to be Felicity, that the name of the baby matters greatly to you, and that you're not one bit amused by his antics or his attitude.

skippingturtle · 08/11/2010 07:22

Ooh mathsanxiety, you're my type of tough talker!

So Donna isn't too harsh for dh then? Wink Yes, probably a wind up, judging by his previous taste.

I actually don't mind Patricia, but it's not as good as Cecily.

Hmmmm...I like Math's idea of 10 names you like and he can choose one from it. Great idea (or maybe make it 5)

skippingturtle · 08/11/2010 14:09

Or you play him at his own game. Give him a list of one name and tell him to choose from that. Grin

chaya5738 · 08/11/2010 14:20

You simply cannot call your child Felicity Cecily! What a mouthful!
