Thank you, both - actually that has given me a bit more confidence. The Bella Coco one does look so much nicer. And there is a video, which will hopefully explain the scary bits (basically half trebles alternating front post and back post), so maybe if I watch that a few times I'll feel more confident.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 02/11/2022 10:48

I still struggle to get front and post trebles right the first time! My brain can’t work out which way I need to go in but once I’ve done the stitch I can work out if it’s right or not. However, with alternating front post and back post stitches - it doesn’t matter if you do the right stitch as long as you do the other on the next stitch. It’s really easy to spot if you’ve accidentally done two front post stitches instead of a front post and back post.

sophs29 · 02/11/2022 10:54

Alternating front and back post always comes easier after a few rows I find @QuantumWeatherButterfly so the first row is quite tricky but once you're onto your second/third row it's really easy to see where to go and also to actually physically hook it through!

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 02/11/2022 12:21

Gosh, those shorts! If we were daring or daft enough to wear them, I see there's a strategically placed daisy to cover our, er, doodahs, thank the Lord.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 02/11/2022 19:05

That is a relief @BucketofTeaMassiveCake 😂

Hi @VittysCardigan! Lovely projects!

I was distracted by the shorts @CrochetBug but I meant to say that the pink you’re using for your sweater is gorgeous, I love it!

I love the one with four colours and cuffs @QuantumWeatherButterfly You’ve defeated the bag handles, there’s nothing you can’t handle after that! 😁

StillNiceCardigan · 02/11/2022 21:37

Looking at “bad” knitted and crocheted clothes is one of my guilty pleasures. Do you think my DH would wear one of these?

Has anyone else noticed the ad (for a brand of medical indsurance) where the old lady is knitting a crocheted blanket? Annoys me every time i see it.

Oh yes, I want to complain every time I see it!!
(Then forget 😁)

CrochetBug · 02/11/2022 22:54

@QuantumWeatherButterfly I made a granny square shrug. It's honestly the easiest thing I've ever made. Mines the same as the blue one (but pink). I just edged the openings with a round of UK dc, but adding sleeves of a sort or ribbing would be easy. (Ribbing seems daunting at first, and I've never found a version where the join between the first and last round doesn't show but its easy once you've worked it out.)

Dear lord - those shorts [Grin]. I think I'd look like one of those joints of meat packaged in plastic netting [Shock]

😂😂😂

CrochetBug · 02/11/2022 22:58

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound thanks. Its stylecraft batik in raspberry (I think)

@StillNiceCardigan I dare you to make him one GrinMum and I always send each other awful patterns and offer to make them for each other. Luckily for her I can't afford to make things no one likes!

@VittysCardigan I haven't noticed that, but seem to remember an episode of Call The Midwife where Sister MJ was knitting squares, yet the pile of finished squares were crocheted. Hmm

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 02/11/2022 23:19

I really shouldn't have left it so long between doing the bag handles. I've finished the second one and I can't remember how I (eventually) attached the first one now!

That thudding sound you hear is me hitting my head on the tableGrin

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 03/11/2022 07:43

Most definitely @StillNiceCardigan! Especially if you also get him a clashing shirt and neckerchief 😂

Oh no @QuantumWeatherButterfly 🫣

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 03/11/2022 07:55

Oh - bad knitting/crochet.

This reminds me of an obscene photo of a crocheted yellow beach thong for a man which 'went around' our knit and natter.

The funniest thing was that the 'model' had obviously waxed/shaved - urrrrgh. It left absolutely nothing to the imagination.

I was sort of surprised at the time because the ladies laughing/looking longest, I thought, were the most reserved. Grin. It's always the quiet ones ....

Oh dear, I hope I haven't brought the tone down.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 03/11/2022 07:59

To bring the tone back up - here is a photo of a small cardigan I finished last night (for granddaughter aged two).

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 03/11/2022 08:00

Forgot the photo.

That's beautiful @MyOtherCarIsAPorsche

My mum takes great delight in sending me pictures of crocheted mens thongs/ skimpy shorts and telling me she's making them for my step dad Grin

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 03/11/2022 08:30

I have to say, I'm only just learning to explore Ravelry and I've already seen Lao fairly eye opening garments! Mostly for women though - I hope to spare my eyes knitted/crocheted thongs for a while yet!

@MyOtherCarIsAPorsche that's lovely! My DD has/has had so many gorgeous cardis my DM has made over the years, I treasure them.

sophs29 · 03/11/2022 09:13

@VittysCardigan YES! I saw that the other day and said to DP "but that's a crochet blanket.." he obviously had no clue what I was talking about but it really bugged me 😂

sophs29 · 03/11/2022 09:15

@MyOtherCarIsAPorsche that is absolutely stunning!! Wow!
And I can't imagine knitted/crocheted underwear is even slightly comfortable, even if it was made from the softest yarn in the world 😭😂

MerylSqueak · 03/11/2022 09:18

Speaking of yarncraft clichés in that ad, starting knitting again has made me realise that the old lady knitting in the corner of the stereotypical fairy story is not lonely and lost in thoughts of her long lost youth but is
in fact counting stitches and trying to get to the end of the row before you interrupt and muck it all up for her

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 03/11/2022 10:14

It’s InTheNight but I was long overdue a name change!

@MyOtherCarIsAPorsche thats a lovely cardigan. My mum has knitted DD so many cardigans but I feel bad because I don’t manage to get her in them frequently enough to warrant the time taken on them.

@sophs29 i find the problem with knitted/crocheted underwear is that is doesn’t matter how tight your tension is or how small the needles/hooks you use are - there’ll still be holes. It’s generally considered that when you start to get holes in your underwear, it’s time to bin them! It was when Tom Daly was making his swimwear and again holes but also no matter what fibre you use, you get those swimming trunks wet and they’re going to get heavy.

@MerylSqueak 😂

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 03/11/2022 11:01

@VittysCardigan I shall have to keep my eyes peeled for that!

@WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally Like the new name! I'm probably overdue a new one myself.

Drum roll please! It's finally finished! (And yes I should have been working, but I'm taking advantage of a very rare quiet day!)
