If you've currently got a project going on during this lockdown, can you post pics of it just for inspiration?! I crochet but I haven't done it in months. I want to start doing it again but I've no idea what? I'm fed up of doing blankets... I have attempted an amigarumi last year but it didn't go great. Blush

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER
I absolutely LOVE that! Did you follow a pattern?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/08/2020 10:19

Thank you, @ClinkyMonkey. I used 3 different patterns, all downloaded from the Lovecrafts site. Couldn’t find what I wanted in just one. The wreath was from a Christmas pattern, just different colours, the other things from a couple of Halloween ones.

I adapted the witches, just made them shorter, since wouldn’t fit otherwise, and the pattern didn’t include a broomstick. The actual knitting was all quite simple.
The spider wouldn’t hang straight, so I made him the web to sit in out of some silvery thread in my stash!

If you’d like any more info pls feel free.
Oh, and the witches’ arms and legs and the spider legs were supposed to be made from I-cords, knitted on double pointed needles, which I didn’t have, so just sewed a knitted strip round a length of pipe cleaner, quite easy and in fact better for bendy purposes.

ClinkyMonkey · 20/08/2020 10:56

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER
Thanks very much for the info. I think I might try something like that. I mostly knit clothes and throws because I'm not great at anything fiddly. The knitting part is fine - it's the stuffing and sewing up. I've produced some very strange shapes (maybe that could work for a Halloween themeGrin). But I think something like a spooky themed wreath would be worth making the effort for. My 8 yo son would love it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/08/2020 11:22

In case you’d like to know, @ClinkyMonkey, the wreath pattern - very easy - comes up under Christmas wreaths on the LC site - it’s the one with a yellow bow and a large and rather scary looking elf.

Witch pattern is Willow the Witch, and other bits Halloween Baubles.

Currently working on a waffle stitch baby blanket. Forcing myself to finish this before I start anything else as I have far too many projects on the go!

I've also just finished the Persian Tiles Eastern Jewels blanket. It was my first proper crochet project. Some mistakes but I loved it because each row was different.

Loving Bagpus and W&G Penguin!

Hi all! I’m new to crochet and now have 24 granny squares.....but the raspberry are slightly bigger than the blue. Does that matter? Am thinking will add a colour boarder, then a white and then stitch them together. Any advice much appreciated!

This is the Royal Garden blanket by Jane Crowfoot. I’m massively regretting not sewing my ends in as I went!

Did you use different brands of yarn, @Giraffewithswag?

Can’t think why they’d come out in different sizes otherwise.
Yes, I should think a narrow border around the smaller ones would be your best bet, assuming you’re going to stitch them all together.

Amen to that! I just finished my Seaside Stashbuster blanket and it took aaaages to weave the ends in afterwards! Well, I say 'finished' ... I now need to crochet the border (which will be in dark brown). Pic attached, with remote control to show size Grin. It's definitely the biggest thing I've ever crocheted or knitted! Loving all your projects, everyone!

Ooh @bruffin that's fantastic! Bet the recipient will love it. How did you put it together in the end, I seem to recall you wanted to do it one way but your DD wanted another way?

@giraffewithswag I get that with Stylecraft Special DK sometimes the different colours are different thickness. You can either block the squares to make them all the same size before joining, or just join them anyway as it will pull into position anyway. I've made 5 single bed sized blankets and only blocked the first one.

I’ve just finished a Pokemon for my daughter. Think it’s called Mew.

@wotsitwiggle
I did the way the pattern said. Its so thick and heavy I found it difficult to pick up for the rib, so knitted it separately.

Flatpackback · 18/10/2020 00:03

Loving this thread, I’ve found it. What lovely photos & great ideas, such beautiful projectst. Can anyone recommend an easy way to back a knitted blanket or a good online tutorial? I think backing will help it keep its shape and stop it stretching but I can’t work out how to do it. I’m still knee deep in squares and more to go.

GingerScallop · 18/10/2020 02:23

For the first time in my life, I knitted for first DS. A cardigan. Expecting second one this time and hoping to do a quick lacy cardigan in the last week (busy with work till then). Am not at all good at knitting but love the idea of making something for these little ones. Hoping to get some ideas here - for patterns. Fairly simple or quick, lacy or pattern, not really feeling like cable knits. Thanks

Ninkanink · 18/10/2020 05:16

Oh this thread is wonderful! I’m not a knitter nor a crocheter (don’t have the patience to learn, sadly) but really enjoy admiring others’ handiwork.

I wanted to mention the MN wooly hugs in case some of you don’t know about it...they always appreciate squares for blankets, from beginners to advanced.

CarlottaValdez · 18/10/2020 05:20

I’ve been making Halloween things for DS!

First time knitter here and pregnant with twins so having a go at making baby blankets first and then maybe I'll try hats? I'm pretty much on bed rest and only 21 weeks so hoping to get a fair few things made but I have to watch a lot of google videos of how to do things 🤣

Northernmum100 · 19/10/2020 13:06

Busy with poppies here, work and friends making donations for the RBL. Hadn't done any crochet until March when I took it up to manage stress (and make my 80 year old mum proudSmile)
