AIBU in thinking that Mary Portas should have just slapped that silly bitch?

OP posts:
stainesmassif · 15/06/2010 19:58

and how many times has she said 36 years!?

(i realise i am quite late to this party)

Buddleja · 16/06/2010 22:08

a lot stainesmassif

She said it A LOT.

Oscy · 16/06/2010 22:14

Mary Portas is a legend - she told some Sunday paper about her childhood and since I read it I want to hug her. That woman didn't deserve her advice. 36 years my ass.

carocaro · 16/06/2010 22:44

My husband was on the first series, he was the guy at Hackett helping out the shop in Manchester, he knows Mary from previous work related stuff.

She's FAB. Right every time, very energising and enthusiatic. She just got married to her girlfriend, see this weeks Grazia Magazine.

Our boys were so excited Daddy was on TV! We still have it on Sky +.

scoobydoolady · 16/06/2010 22:50

Hi Caro

I saw that, thought it was great programme. Hope your business was a success!

Mary Portas is great, love her, hope she's blissfully married.

Buddleja · 16/06/2010 22:51

Oh got when i read the first few words of your post there carocaro I thought you were going to say that the lush baker was your husband. and i was getting prepared to say 'you lucky, lucky lady'

Not sure i recall the episode in Manchester -though I might recall it if I say the shop again (the locations don't seem to stick in my head)

Ladyanonymous · 16/06/2010 22:56

This weeks episode was rather local to me

They were a really sweet couple and I loved the way Mary embraced the locals.

Give the woman a bloody MBE.

iheartmyboys · 16/06/2010 23:12

I loved the changes this week. The store looked great, I hope they do make a new start and enjoy it now.
Have you visited it yet?

carocaro · 16/06/2010 23:20

No, my Dh worked for a brand that sold to a store Mary was trying to drag into the 21st centuary!

scoobydoolady · 16/06/2010 23:33

Sorry Caro, being a bit dopey. Usually in bed by now, dp is away tonight so I stay up later eating chocolate and generally sirring things up on some of these threads (naughty girl).

Do you know if that shop is still in business?

GloriaSmut · 17/06/2010 01:36

I'd visit that bakery I would. Providing someone could confirm she's been in business for more than five minutes. Only I never quite caught how long she'd been trading...

AlaskaNebraska · 17/06/2010 03:05

Hackett eh? i came across your boss in work.. slimy git isnt he?

upahill · 17/06/2010 09:22

I finally caught up with the programme last night. I really felt for Paul, the baker.
What is the point of getting a professional in who actually knows how consumers operate and what they want and then more or less telling them to stick it? Barking!!

Miggsie · 17/06/2010 09:24

Every time she said "36 years in the business". I felt like yelling "and it won't be 37!"

And if I was her baker guy I'd resign, she said that he was not up to making proper bread and she'd have to sack him!!!!!

She reminded me of my SIL, she's always right about everything and acts like this...

rots · 17/06/2010 13:52

Just seen her website. The "about us page" says, "Now 37 years on; Angela, William (now retired), family and staff continue to provide customers with the personal touch that can only be offered by a family run business".

PMSL @ how many years she's been in business.

rots · 17/06/2010 13:57

"[Cakes] Baked weekly by Sandy and Angela"

WEEKLY? Really fresh, then!!! Yuck.

rots · 17/06/2010 14:03

"Maher and Sons Bakery is a family run, independent bakery that has been providing freshly baked breads, cakes, pastries and scones - not to mention our wonderful homemade quiches, bridge rolls and much more - for over 37 years." This one on the first page. It's now OVER 37 years. Crikey, well in that case, I take it all back, she clearly knows what she's doing. .

VuvuzelaPlenticlew · 17/06/2010 15:27

Just watched this as well, and tried to look at the Facebook page but it's vanished! I suppose if people were being rude about Angela she may have been able to ask for it to be taken down (?) Otherwise ... why?

LilMagill · 17/06/2010 15:54

Haha her website is quite passive aggressive.

"Family bakers have been producing sticky buns and delightful doughnuts since long before artisan cakes appeared on the scene in Britain. "

Buddleja · 17/06/2010 17:48

No way does it really say that LilMagill?

I'm off for a look!!!

VuvuzelaPlenticlew · 17/06/2010 19:12

yeah, those artisan bakers are Johnny-come-latelys, the lot of 'em.

Is that the bakery equivalent of BNP literature?

LetThereBeRock · 18/06/2010 01:25

I've just watched it on Iplayer, and how obnoxious is that bitch woman?

I don't think I've ever so badly wanted to slap someone as I do her smug, catty, and unpleasant face.

How can anyone be so bloody rude to people who are taking the time to try to help her?

Her poor baker. She doesn't deserve him. She doesn't deserve to make a profit.

She keeps wittering on about 36 years of experience but seems to have learned little during those 36 years other than how to be utterly vile.

Ladyanonymous · 28/06/2010 21:08

OMG...this one looks like a cracker

Gleeb · 28/06/2010 21:17

I visited the charity shop she did in Orpington the other day! Very exciting. It still looks the same and there was a rather nice Midwinter jug for £35.... Didn't see any of the old lady volunteers off of the telly but Graham was out the back
