AIBU in thinking that Mary Portas should have just slapped that silly bitch?

Angelas son seemed so nice and quite good looking and yes quite embarrassed by his mums childish behaviour.

Amapoleon · 07/06/2010 23:24

Hehehe, great entertainment though.

Kewcumber · 07/06/2010 23:25

but surely the researchers should be weeding out knobs like this? - absolutrely not, it makes mesmerising TV,

LynetteScavo · 07/06/2010 23:42

But if Angela had gone a long with everything Mary said, the result could have been stunning.

Angela grmbled on the phone to her son that not having the floor re-done was Mary's way of getting back at her. WTF?

pigletmania · 07/06/2010 23:45

I know Lynette, just seemed like she applied just to get her shop redone not to turn the whole thing around.

Buddleja · 07/06/2010 23:54

Don't you wish, LynetteS, that her son would have pointed out to her 'no mum - you don't have the budget to do the floor (or the ceiling) because the business doesn't do that well'

Funkycherry · 08/06/2010 01:02

I too cringed when she was rude to the experts they visited. Although loved it when she was told it had been a family business since 1920.
And as for the not doing the floor to spite me comment..

I so want to see a follow up where her baker gets head-hunted, the shop goes under and the new owners do what Mary suggested and make an absulute killing!

diamondsandtiaras · 08/06/2010 07:18

Bloody hell........I knew there was something I was supposed to Sky+........

dawntigga · 08/06/2010 07:37

I missed most of this because of Chuck but was v 'd at the bits I did see.

Am not sure I want to see this as it makes my blood pressure go through the roof! It's like when baby 'developers' have a Beeny on hand to give them advise and they totally disregard it! What's the point of having a bloody expert that YOU'VE asked for then ignoring what they say?

dawntigga · 08/06/2010 07:45

Meant to add they have a www.maherandsonsbakery.co.uk/index.htmwebsite

Regarding 'Researchers weeding out' and 'making great telly' - hmmmm. See, she HAD to know what they were planning as you have to have what is called 'Informed Consent'. All participants have to sign a consent form and it legally has to state what (or she has to be told verbally) is going to be filmed / the direction of the show. She had to know that they were going to critique her shop on ALL levels - otherwise she can sue the production company for misinformation and lack of informed consent. Legals and morals innit.

So, she probably went along with it, saying they could do what they wanted, knowing that she was going to say No when it came to the crunch. Would have caused a nightmare on the shoot and the production team would have had kittens for about ... oh... 5 mins! And then they would have rubbed their hands with glee about what a great show they were going to get! Hence it being the first in the series!

There endeth the media studies lesson

I was ready to come on this thread and start ranting because I thought you were about to say Mary Mary was the subject of your ire.

I adore this woman. In a rather worrying way (not that I am a stalker) since I am married with three DCs.

And I want her hair.

I was interviewed by the production company for the next series, on the back of the webchat she did here. Sadly I have heard nothing.

Haven't actually watched it yet, forgot to Sky Plus it too so off to iPlayer now.

TheBoyWithaSORNedMX5 · 08/06/2010 08:36

I loved the postscript. Something along the lines of "...still using premixes"

Lauriefairycake · 08/06/2010 08:54

I'm watching this now after this thread

how blardy rude is she to that guy in the Cotswolds (what a yummy bakery)

fragola · 08/06/2010 08:54

There's a facebook group been set up to "save paul the baker"!

Buddleja · 08/06/2010 08:59

Brilliant!! I was just going to come in here and suggest setting one up - and seeing if we can get the same success as Rage against the Machine did at christmas LOL

grumpypants · 08/06/2010 09:04

but i hated the horrid 'country house' style of the display. Very 80s baskets and linens - was expecting something like the interior of the starship enterprise - loving mary's hair. mine is just like that, but blonde [preen emoticon]

Lauriefairycake · 08/06/2010 09:10

I'm now up to the bit where she has the bread mixes in

nutter - how can she not see the difference and Mary the non-baker can

Buddleja · 08/06/2010 09:15

Here's a contradictory veiw to everyone here from 'British Baker'

Mind you it hadn't aired when that was written ...

LaBellaSantaCatarinadiSienna · 08/06/2010 09:18

I didn't see the programme, but I did see Mary on Something for the Weekend where she said at one point she consulted a psychoanalyst friend of hers for advice on how to get through to this woman!

mophead5 · 08/06/2010 09:19

please tell me the 'save paul the baker' on facebook is for real....i want to join

I should think it was edited within an inch of its life.

Cretaceous · 08/06/2010 09:27

Agree Angela was awful, and yet there are a couple of bakeries near us just like Angela's that are always busy . I popped into our local bakery the other day for a croissant for breakfast, and the man said "Sorry, we didn't bake any today"?!?
