You are all rotten and know nothing about baking ,I have been in the business for.......ooooh about 36 years.

deaddei · 08/06/2010 18:19

The bakers shop is quite close to me and she's always been a miserable cow.
Also used to run the cafe in the local dept store (think family store not Selfridges!) and its customers were old biddies.
I am tempted to pop in and ask for some speciality bread not made from a packet.
Or would that be childish???

iheartmyboys · 08/06/2010 18:21

Does the owner have much experience in baking?

OrientCalf · 08/06/2010 18:27

there is rumour that it wasn't her who called in Mary (though I assume she would ahve had to agree at some point)

perhaps Mary got inadvertently caught up in a family feud?

MadameCastafiore · 08/06/2010 18:33

Why why why why did no one who she visited and was rude to not front her out and ask her if she was this rude to everybody?

I hope Paul stuck her in the bread oven with a cottage loaf in her gob and went off and got a job somewhere else where he was respected and valued.

And if you are reading this you miserable old COW - MARY IS COOL AND YOU ARE RUDE AND VILE AND WHEN ALL YOUR OLD GRANNY CUSTOMERS CROAK YOU WILL BE BEGGING FOR A BIT OF ARTISAN WALNUT BREAD TO FLOG TO ALL THOSE POSH MUMMIES!!!

(God it took about 30 minutes to calm down after watching that last night!)

JaneS · 08/06/2010 18:36

Oh my.

How can she be so rude? I bet she's cringing now that programme is out. Mind you her son wasn't very polite either, for all of the two seconds we saw him for.

What an ignorant woman.

shatteredmumsrus · 08/06/2010 18:37

I love Mary, shes a funky woman!

lucykate · 08/06/2010 18:39

there's no mention of paul the baker on the website, hope he's been head hunted and moved on.

Buddleja · 08/06/2010 18:50

he's mention in the bread section lucykate (though blink and you miss it!!)

Fibilou · 09/06/2010 07:42

"She obviously thought the shop could do with a lick of paint and she'd get it for nothing - but surely the researchers should be weeding out knobs like this? "

Why would they want to do that ? We wouldn't be talking about it otherwise, would we

Fibilou · 09/06/2010 08:40

Mmmmmmmm Eric Lanlard. He is a hunk of the pastry world

pigletmania · 09/06/2010 08:44

I like Mary she is so cool, my estimation of her since that show has risen so much. She has the patience of a saint and was impeccable despite Angela being rude and nasty. Love her hair will have to have that style for a wedding in the summer. Oh the baker in the Cotswolds was very niiiiice, yummy yummy I could taste his bread anytime

CurlywurlyGirl · 14/06/2010 20:31

Does anyone know what happened to the "Save Paul the Baker" group on Facebook? I've been offline for a few days and it seems to have disappeared!

upahill · 15/06/2010 10:48

Does anyone know when(if ) the programme is repeated. I forgot to record it last night and was late home from work so I forgot!

LadyBiscuit · 15/06/2010 10:53

is repeated tonight at 7pm - last week's bakery, not last night's.

upahill · 15/06/2010 11:13

Thanks LadyBiscuit and Fishie. I'll catch up

Rockbird · 15/06/2010 11:17

I was brought up down the road from that bakery. My dad used to go in there on a Saturday morning for bread, mini Hovis loaves and cream doughnuts. The funny biscuits etc that Mary (and you lot!) are laughing at is the stuff of my childhood (sob). He still goes in there every so often and it hasn't changed one iota in 30 years.

But I have lovely memories of their cakes so go easy on them

abr1de · 15/06/2010 11:18

Mary Portas was so right about that bakery. It was like a 70s throwback.

Buddleja · 15/06/2010 11:31

I think that was Mary's point Rockbird - it hasn't changed in 30 years and the same people are going there and not anyone new - because the things people buy for themselves and their children has changed.

Sure I used to eat those sort of things as a treat when i was a kid but I wouldn't by them for my kids more than the one off 'oh I used to have that sort of thing' buy.

Last night was impressive though - I want to go to that shop now!!

stainesmassif · 15/06/2010 19:54

am just watching it on repeat now. blimey, she is absolutely vile. i would have walked away from her a long time ago.
