AIBU in thinking that Mary Portas should have just slapped that silly bitch?

OP posts:
Alambil · 08/06/2010 09:27

labella, that's what you call heavy duty!

I can't believe she stayed so calm - I'd LOVE to see the uncut / off the record interviews with Mary!

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/06/2010 09:28

Have joined the facebook page !! love Mary

umf · 08/06/2010 09:31

Betcha at least 3 bakershop owners have nipped round and tried to poach Paul this morning. Hope he went - and got a decent pay rise.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/06/2010 09:33

perhaps nice artisan baker will snap him up and open a branch in London for Paul...

jumpingjackhash · 08/06/2010 09:40

That woman was a bloody nightmare - don't know how Mary didn't just lamp her one.

I live near that bakery, I've never been in there but am tempted to now out of morbid curiosity...

SoupDragon · 08/06/2010 09:41

I agree that this will have been edited to show what the TV company wanted it to show. It happened to a colleague who did a Cutting Edge programme about having the builders in.

jumpingjackhash · 08/06/2010 09:44

But even with biased editing, you can't argue with the fact that she actually said those things... do people actually believe TV companies will present a completely balanced/unbiased view on 'reality' TV programmes these days?

BigBadMummy · 08/06/2010 09:52

Mary has talked alot recently about this episode. She said she even consulted a pyschiatrist friend of hers to see if there was a different approach she could take.

Why put yourself up for this sort of programme if you are going to ignore the advice given.

EnglandAllenPoe · 08/06/2010 09:54

i didn't watch this, but now i really want to...

BreevandercampLGJ · 08/06/2010 09:57

Right... we need to organise a campaign of civil disobedience, google the phone number of the bakery and ring and ask them if they do artisan breads and when they say yes, you say Oh splendid, I do so hate it when bakeries use mixes, don't you.

Be prepared for a long silence, she will have hung up and be up in the flat telling the walls that she has been in business for 36 yes thats right folks 36 years.

Iklboo · 08/06/2010 09:58

Is n't Mary marrying her partner soon? Saw an interview with her the other week and she seemed so excited & happy about it. Hope she has (had) a lovely day.

Onestonetogo · 08/06/2010 10:18

[email protected] or phone 02089463984.

I've emailed them and phoned them, sying I hope Paul finds a job where he's respected and I thought Angela was terribly rude and was just after a free new floor courtesy of the BBC.

On their website they advertise their bred made-on-the-premises, they certainly do not say they use pre-mixes! What a nasty woman I hope she goes bust.

BigBadMummy · 08/06/2010 10:27

Iklboo, she did. It was last week, she mentioned it on Something For The Weekend. Isn't her partner connected to Grazia? Fashion Ed or some such?

Buddleja · 08/06/2010 10:28

On the website it says 37 years wonder what date they opened on (filmed late last year wasn't it?), even so she'll always be Angela '36 years' Maher to me!!

Here's the facebook page

Cretaceous · 08/06/2010 10:36

I actually feel a little bit sorry for Angela. It must be difficult to have someone telling you how you could improve your shop, then having it all exposed on tv. She may have been very rude, and to have "asked for it" by agreeing to appear on the programme (for a new floor ), but she's not evil...

MrsGangly · 08/06/2010 11:55

What an awful woman! Gordon Ramsay does this with restaurants in a far more confrontational manner, but people try to learn from him and are inspired by him. Angela was rude and horrible to everyone she met, including poor, poor Paul. Let's hope someone far more deserving has poached him!

Again · 08/06/2010 12:08

I do feel sorry for. There probably comes a time in your life where you don't want to do big business you just want to keep afloat. I know she asked for it, but she is probably getting so much grief now from people phoning and so on and I think that that's going a bit too far. But she was incredibly nasty, especially about Paul not being a good baker.

Flisspaps · 08/06/2010 12:16

But she has a kiddiescorner!

Bit like the mean old witch in Hansel and Gretel, trying to tempt the children in

Kaloki · 08/06/2010 13:38

She was vile wasn't she!? Could she have been any ruder?

Paul is a star, and if anyone ever finds out that another bakers has grabbed him they should post on here so we can all go buy his delicious looking bread!

Kaloki · 08/06/2010 13:38

Btw.. has anyone heard how long they've been trading.. she forgot to say..

EnglandAllenPoe · 08/06/2010 14:00

i guess 1) so long as its baked on the premises, they are fine to use a pre-mix (unless it is a 'scratch' bake and they advertise as such.) many shops advertise as 'baked on premises' and use pre-frozen dough, mix, - so long as the heat happens in situ, tis baked on the premises.

  1. Every supermarket in store bakery has a trained baker, who is managed by (in almost every case) by a non-baker. This does not present problems, as ultimately, you don't need to know how to bake bread in order to know that you can't sell it if it isn't on the shelf.... (and make sure the display looks good, the staff are well managed, the stock is ordered in correctly etc..)

3)Mary Portas is a bit great - the shop she did in Brighton (was Jujus, North Lane) is a totally different place..(not sure f his is cos it shut or nOT!)

must see if tis on again some time.

Iklboo · 08/06/2010 14:02

Wish we could get Mary here for a chat

pigletmania · 08/06/2010 14:10

please tell me that the wonderful skilled Paul has moved onto to better things.

JackieNo · 08/06/2010 14:16

Iklboo - she came on here not so long ago. Though talking about fashion, mostly.
