AIBU Books Game Part Seven

CJCregg · 27/05/2010 17:52

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

MoominMymbleandMy · 30/09/2010 12:51

An outsize peach, perhaps, Pogle?

...All we have to live on is Grandfather's pension and they can't afford to feed and clothe me properly. But I don't want to live in a big city with four little girls...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 12:51

Lovely and busy on here today!

Do you I actually was broadcast on Sunday nights? :o How extremely immodest for a young lady of my station.

...Oh infamy! I have discovered a letter from my true love, proposing marriage to my kinswoman! If only we weren't both so utterly gorgeous things would be so much simpler...

Pogleswood · 30/09/2010 12:59

Whatever it is,I'm enjoying it,Elephants!!
(have reached the point where I'm so swept up in the AIBU story that I'm completely incapable of viewing it dispassionately and working out what the..bleep.. it is!)

Pogleswood · 30/09/2010 13:09

aha,faint trickle of familiarity coalesces...

moomin, "when Philip came to the single rose over the water the treasure was taken...."

Hang on in there, there is hope and you may escape Birmingham after all!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 13:16

:o Pogle

...Thank heavens I have been released from the threat of marriage to the vile foster-brother. Now my true-love's foster-father is visiting me, asking me to receive a visit my my beloved himself! But no, impossible after such a betrayal...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 13:27

What was Moomin's?

CJCregg · 30/09/2010 13:29

Pogle, WTF are you on about?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 13:42

I was assuming that Pogle was quoting some kind of 19th century erotica :o

MoominMymbleandMy · 30/09/2010 13:59

Ooh, Pogle, now that is seriously impressive! Have a handcrafted model of the Minnow to float in your bathtub.

The lack of punctuation in Pogle's quotation is absolutely spot on and very significant to the plot.Wink

I still don't know who you are, Elephants, but I think all of the men in your life need to be ditched ASAP!

AIBU to want to live on an island?

MoominMymbleandMy · 30/09/2010 14:00

Or even post-traumatic Blush

CJCregg · 30/09/2010 14:14

Or even pre-traumatic Grin

What was the Birmingham one, please?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 14:19

Still clueless on Moomin's :)

..Oh this is all I need. It turns out that my true love is the heir to his foster-father's estate after all, and is a young man of fortune rather the humble foundling we thought him. Now I've got my father in one ear and his foster-father in the other, begging me to marry him. But how can I when he is such a manwhore inconstant lover?

CJCregg · 30/09/2010 14:22

At last - Sophia, I think you'll find that marriage to you will see him change his ways!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 30/09/2010 14:25

Grin Grin - I'm a science bod - I don't know anything about 19th century erotica!

I was just showing off,to compensate for having been pipped at the post for Moomin's last AIBU...

It was The Minnow on the Say by Phillipa Pearce. And as Moomin says, the waffle is a very-significant-to-the-plot quote.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 14:35

ooh CJ, do you think?

I think that he has "acquired a discretion and prudence very uncommon in one of his lively, er, parts".

Have a much-carressed muff. What do you mean, you don't want it?

CJCregg · 30/09/2010 15:05

Let's hope so, Elephants.

A muff, you say? Is it lambskin?

MCP!

And AIBU to ... yikes, got to pick up DD, back later Grin

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 15:28

I don't think there was any lambskin involved NO...although our hero is certainly very fond of heaving white bosoms so the lamb should probably watch out. :o

Pogleswood · 30/09/2010 16:10

CJ,I know life is hard here on the raft, nothing to read except AIBU synopses (and your AF collection,if we can wrest it off of Moomin),living entirely on bakery products and icecream - but it isn't the lamb's fault,is it now?
How will we explain its demise from stress to Treacle when she gets back?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 16:37

Pogle, loving your work today here and elsewhere :)

Always had a bit of a crush on Henry Fielding. That doesn't make me a weirdo, right?

CJCregg · 30/09/2010 17:12

Pogle, I know, I know Smile

Thing is, I was only joking - bit of a mint sauce/redcurrant jelly joke, only having a laugh - and everyone went and took it all seriously. I love little fluffy lambkins, honest I do. It's just that I can't help myself - if you push me, I will cross that line Grin

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 17:32

Visual aid

CJ - AIBU to think you should be asking AIBU about something or other?

AIBU to hire a cleaning lady?

MoominMymbleandMy · 30/09/2010 19:13

Not if you lend her to me, Elephants!

Curious about the sterling work you've been up to elsewhere, Pogle and Elephants,

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 19:32

...not if you're thinking of using your liddle mop, Moomin, you'll get it done in a flash. Sorry I'm sure it's not that one, but have finally found my copy of CCF and wanted to show off :o

Sterling work was over on the feminism board Moomin, where Pogle has been showing far more patience than me and actually getting through the dense skull of engaging with a certain chap over there :)

...I'm finding it tough balancing work and home as a single parent, and the kids need someone steady in their lives...

MoominMymbleandMy · 30/09/2010 21:24

Not CCF, though I'm sure it's the sort of thing Adam would have done, Elephants.

So does your cleaning lady look a bit familiar and possibly slightly hairy about the face?

...And they've got to be combed every day too. It's all very well to want to make a good impression but there are limits...

Off to take a gander at the sterling work - don't envy Mr Wotsit up against your combined talents! Grin

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 21:37

...Actually she's a very sweet lady, and the turban is very fetching...oh hang on a minute. DANIEL!!!

That was quick, I hadn't even had time to mention the quail :)

PTRS I meant, my fingers fell over earlier.

Lamb-combing...are you stuck in a spot of inter-grandparent rivalry?
