AIBU Books Game Part Seven

CJCregg · 27/05/2010 17:52

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

Because piracy is practically compulsory where I come from, I might take this opportunity to talk like a posh Englishperson.

That's quite alright my good, er, Moomin. Perhaps you would like to partake of some newly baked blackberry crumble and cream?

NI on your Moomin! It certainly sounds exciting, but I've got the urge to kick poor little Jemima at the very sound of her name... [evil]

...well I've set up in my new glamorous career, and there is a very dashing chap working here too...

MoominMymbleandMy · 20/09/2010 22:03

How intriguing, Elephants, I imagine that would put you right off talking like a pirate. And what's Jemima ever done to you?!

Ho hum, still stumped here. MCP!

...Lawrence believes me. He knows his father's come from Scotland to spy on us and turn everyone against me...

Right, well after all that sleuthing by Treacle and Pogle, it is only fair that I revive book from early June (so's to finish the line of questioning).

'hem. Long copy and paste of Qs and As from page 1-ish follows.

llandb: AIBU to be set in my bachelor ways? (might have been done before)

Treacle: llandb, do you have a dislike of society?

llandb: Treacle, yes, I snarl at everyone and am universally reviled.
But they think I need to reproduce in order to boost morale for the war effort! And they've found me a consort.

llandb: She was obtained for me under false pretences - my keeper told her guardian that I have exquisite manners and that I once saved a kitten.

llandb: ... Mind you, he wasn't lying when he said that my name was Harold - it's just that everyone thinks of me as scruffy....

Pogle: All yours brings to mind ,llandb, is Harry the Dirty Dog,my sister's favorite book for a long time, about which I can remember nothing(but reproducing for the war effort didn't feature much in the books we read when we were little!!)

llandb: Pogle, I'm a dirty quadruped who lives on The Rock... - though I s'pose knuckle-walker is a better description.... (not sure I know HTDD but will seek out )

Pogle: Are you saying you are an Ape,llandb? Though if you are that doesn't help me as no libraries are involved!

llandb: Yes (ook ook) Legend has it that if the population of apes here dies out then the colony will fall from British hands. And I'm the last one.... unless I start accepting my new (imported) GF's advances...

Anyway you lot, MCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/09/2010 00:49

aargh llandb! glad I check what the link was before clicking, you fiend. :o I am sleeping on the floor at the moment and do not want to be thinking of them tonight thank you.

Can't believe you abandoned yours. It's probably still sitting there, waiting sadly, wearing its embarrassing dunce's cap with the big question mark on the front...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/09/2010 00:52

Ahh, you rescued it :):):)

...that's it, I've left my husband and now of course DD has started fussing. She's always been too busy with her so-called career up to now!...

llandb · 21/09/2010 00:58

Not to worry, Elephants - Wikipedia says they're harmless, so it must be true (doesn't mention all the people who die of fright).

The one we had running under the sofa last autumn or so had probably been disturbed when I trimmed the web-smothered ivy by the wide-open door. Never knowingly had another (though have noticed neighbours' cats taking great interest in said ivy).

I took our 6 cm leg-span visitor a looong way down the street to re-home it :o

Actually came back to remark that cocoa beans is fruit and sugar cane/beet is veg and hence sugary/chocolatey things are very healthy!

'Night, all!

MoominMymbleandMy · 21/09/2010 01:20

Ah, so you were Scruffy, llandb!

I quite like spiders, of the UK, scuttling but not poisonous to humans, variety, I hasten to add.

Good luck with the tottering pile shifting, llandb, and I sincerely hope we don't have the same internet 'provider' for your sake.

Yep, Elephants, 'groffles' now has a permanent place in the Moomin family vocabulary and I hope you at least have a nice soft sleeping bag. As for my AIBU...

...How do you know so much about me? Have you been talking to my ex? It is not all in my head and Lawrence is a very good speller for his age...

Have a paddle in the Trevi Fountain for a prize! Oh, and MCP still!

AIBU to think my son ought to be learning a trade?

llandb · 21/09/2010 01:31

Yay - have a banana, Moomin'!

'Fraid we are likely to sign up with same 'provider'. Will just have to read books rather than read about them here! :)

Does your son want to do something daft and useless instead, such as go to university?

Elephants, is there a 'butterfly' clue in there? (MCP though)

Must get off t'web and into kip... 'night, all, really, this time!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/09/2010 01:56

Don't think so llandb, sorry.

Ooh a paddle, can we use that for the raft? :o

...You know, having children really isn't all it's cracked up to be, my new life of fame and imaginative sex really is quite delightful..

Pogleswood · 21/09/2010 07:09

Well,that does sound like fun,Elephants!Grin

I have no idea who any of you are,I remember your ape one llandb, but I thought someone had solved it! Oh well...
Hope your move goes ok,and you get your internet back on schedule.

MCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/09/2010 09:35

...But for some reason my DD doesn't seem at all keen to help me in my new career. Too busy obsessing over that boss of hers I expect...

CJCregg · 21/09/2010 10:01

Elephants, is your DD racketing around London, going on dates with unsuitable men and wearing outsize knickers? Do you wish she'd marry that nice son of your friends and settle down?

Grin Hope I'm right ... otherwise I've let the thread down shamefully!

Am also in mourning for books that have been culled due to too many house moves. But on the upside, I have now traced all but one of my AFs.

AIBU to avenge my sister?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/09/2010 10:11

Well he is a top notch human rights lawyer, CJ, what mother wouldn't want that for her DD? :o

Congratulations, your carton of delicious blue soup is in the post, hopefully the oversized pants (slightly used) I've wrapped it in will keep it warm.

Ooh revenge, is she not with us any more then? I'm so sorry.

CJCregg · 21/09/2010 10:27

Ah, but are you setting her a good example, Elephants, running off with that dodgy foreigner?!

Yay, I got one.

You're quite right, my sister is dead. The perpetrator says it was an accident but I'm having none of it. Some people were actually pleased to hear of her death!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 21/09/2010 10:27

PS Ewwwwwww to the slightly used pants.

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/09/2010 10:29

No, CJ? Shock You'll tell me they were ringing bells to celebrate next! If I were you I wouldn't just be looking at the girl, but her little dog, too.

...Or, you know, not. :)

CJCregg · 21/09/2010 10:33

Curses! You're onto me! Watch out or I'll send my flying monkeys after you ...

(DD is ill and off school today - guess what we're sitting on the sofa watching? Grin)

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/09/2010 10:36

Ooh scary CJ, I've just poured out a lovely glass of water, do you want one?

What do I win?

Poor CJ'sDD, nothing serious I hope. Jelly, ice-cream and TV is a cure-all IMO.

CJCregg · 21/09/2010 10:52

Sadly you can't have the shoes - that minx has taken them back to Kansas. My pointy hat, however, is now going spare ...

There's no place like home!

(I suspect DD of slightly faking it but we are having a lovely cosy morning and I am getting no work done. Am going to drug her with Calpol and suggest a little sleep in a minute.)

OP posts:
CJCregg · 21/09/2010 22:02

Moomin - your son, you haven't got him apprenticed to an undertaker, have you?

Night all! Have caught DD's cold and need to get some sleep. She's going to school tomorrow, come hell or high water ...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 21/09/2010 22:31

This IS my last post tonight, honestly ...

Meant to say, ages back - Moomin, I did study Chaucer and am posh nobby Eng Lit type but I am nowhere near as well-read as you. So there.
