AIBU Books Game Part Seven

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/08/2010 12:14

Oh, how, um, nice treacle. Was she alive, or is she a relative of Morph?

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/08/2010 14:19

Lovely to be back and I will add the list for AIBU 6 when I've caught up, promise.

The ceilings in the new house are a bit lower so all the extensions on the Ikea bookcases had to be shortened. And I have steeled myself to send seven boxes of books to the charity shop. Only we've bought a few more since so embryonic tottering piles are starting up again. And I'm putting off sorting the boxes of books that used to be in the loft and are now in the garage... So no change really...

I have no idea what any of you are on about yet but I am promising myself a good catch-up session tonight when, hopefully, a few cogs might start whirring again.

...I think it probably was U but I'm very glad I did because I don't think we'd have got away if he hadn't cut himself on it when he grabbed me...

Pogleswood · 04/08/2010 17:01

Hey,Moomin! Welcome back!

You always tell a "well read lunatic"- they are the people who give seven boxes of books away, and yet still need bookcases! (I got rid of loads of books when we moved - and then I relaxed because I had done so well, and the next thing I knew piles of books were falling on me again...)

No ideas on your knife, but Treacle - is she in a picture?

llandb · 04/08/2010 18:36

Cor, is this coincidence week?

Hello everyone (and I see from skimming above posts that I am not the only returned prodigal!)

Hope everyone is well and unreasonable :D

Hope to catch up soon - on snot-ridden toddler duty so will prob be online!

Toodle-pip etc

Pogleswood · 04/08/2010 18:39

llandb! Well, blow me down, fancy seeing you here!
Isn't this nice,everyone back again!

llandb · 04/08/2010 18:42
steamedtreaclesponge · 04/08/2010 22:29

Hello llandb!

You'll be proud to know that I introduced lemon, lime and bitters to all my friends on a trip to Yorkshire recently - they were pretty excited by it (it was with the greatest difficulty that I prevented them running off with the bitters bottle)

...No, she's not in a picture - she just happened to be passing by the castle...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/08/2010 23:16

Mmmm, in a glass box perchance?

Hi llandb!

I could pop some popcorn?

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2010 00:04

Hello fellow prodigal! Budge up on the raft please, because I still haven't a clue about anyone's AIBU. MCP!

And I'm seriously impressed at Treacle the intrepid! Are you going to take an E-book thingy because I really can't imagine you surviving long without a reading fix.

...I didn't fall asleep and I've still got all my fingers but I had to hurt him because I'm sure he was planning something very nasty for us. I always knew that knife would come in useful...

steamedtreaclesponge · 05/08/2010 10:30

Yep, all that time on the train would require a LOT of books and I don't think I can carry all my tottering piles! I really want one of the new Kindles; problem is, they're only released two days before I go away so I won't have time to get one delivered. Am currently looking into ways of getting one posted to Mongolia...

Moomin, yours is ringing a bell, but I think I need MCP!

...not in a glass box, Elephants, but a boat...

Mmm, popcorn. Can we have smoked paprika on it please?

Poledra · 05/08/2010 10:38

Hellloooooo - nearly everyone's back (well, except for CJ, and she's on holiday).

NIMCP, though.

Can I have some popcorn with salty butter on it, or am I too late? [puppy-dog-eye emoticon at Elephants}

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2010 10:53

Morning, all!

The list for AIBU 6 is finally added - I hope I didn't get any ice cream on it because there seemed to be a lot around towards the end of the thread.

Getting a Kindle posted to Mongolia sounds even braver than going there, Treacle. Is there much difference between them? I had a look at one that was chained up in Waterstones and it annoyed me because the pages wouldn't change quickly enough.

Oh, and the dead pretty lady - is it a case of "The curse is come upon me,"?

...I never thought I'd be so grateful to see my brother-in-law...

steamedtreaclesponge · 05/08/2010 12:06

Hello Pol!

And yes, well done Moomin - you can choose for your prize either one half-finished magic web or a sack of shallots, your choice!

The new Kindles are much cheaper than the old ones, which is my main reason for wanting one! Plus they have wi-fi which is useful. I've never seen one in real life though, perhaps I should make a trip to Waterstones and see if they have any...

Think you're right about the posting. I'm hoping there's someone else in my riding group flying out after I leave who might be able to bring it for me.

Still need more clues, please!

AIBU to pester my husband about this?

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2010 12:23

Lummee, what an exciting existence you lead, Treacle! When do you get time to read?!

I'll take the shallots, please. The magic web sounds much more exciting but I know I'll never get round to finishing it.

So you'll be abandoning the Fur Quits then, Treacle. And I had picked out such a nice book that I was sure you'd love (really must get round to posting a few intelligent-ish sounding comments on last year's round ).

Is your husband being recalcitrant about calling on your new neighbour, perhaps? If so, you aren't at all U - wealthy bachelors don't grow on trees.

Pogle, MCP on your DH - I think that's still running, isn't it?

...And to think of the row everyone made when I picked up that knife. I'm feeling vindicated now it's saved both our lives...

Pogleswood · 05/08/2010 12:50

I think Treacle got me - perhaps you could confirm ,Treacle - but I thought you did!

Where is the quote from about the Lady of Shallot along the lines of,"no wonder she felt faint and had to have a lie down in a barge, poor thing..." Is it AF? (Or Anne of Green Gables? - I suppose I could check that for myself....will go and do!)

I may be around later but am off on holiday for a week tomorrow - so will see you all next weekend,I hope!

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2010 13:01

Ahem, for list-compiling purposes you'll have to spell it out a bit more, Pogle, please - I have a lot to catch up on. And that was a masterful Peter Pan AIBU on thread 6 btw - I laughed so much last night I woke up DH.

Have a super holiday.

...Yes indeedy, if I hadn't gone back for that knife we might have been found covered up with leaves too...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 05/08/2010 13:02

Moomin i'm trawling the mental cabinets under "knife" but only coming up with "the subtle" and there aren't any BILs there!

AIBU to be scared of this piece of vegetation?

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2010 13:13

Not a bit U if it's a triffid, Elephants, and sorry, no idea on your quote, Pogle, though I'm sure I've read it somewhere.

...It isn't a subtle knife in the least. Not much subtle about sixteen blades...

Pogleswood · 05/08/2010 13:15

Oh Moomin - the penny finally drops(in slow motion!)
This'd be the knife that caused no end of a palaver when you dropped it out of the train, wouldn't it?

Glad you enjoyed the Peter Pan one!

As for mine I was indeed an actress before I married - also renowned for my intelligence...

Pogleswood · 05/08/2010 13:16

Cross posts as now you've beaten me to the toffee popcorn!

steamedtreaclesponge · 05/08/2010 13:20
steamedtreaclesponge · 05/08/2010 13:21

PS - amazing list, Moomin! Don't we look literary?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 05/08/2010 13:44

What were yours, Moomin & Pogle?

That doesn't sound very nice treacle. Are you sure you're not living near a rather creepy village?

...It's not talking to me, just standing there in the corner of the garden. Its face doesn't look very friendly though...

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2010 13:56

Aha, penny finally drops here, Pogle, so you were married to the old Scarlet Pimple!

And, yes, bang on the nose again, I was being Nicola rescuing Rose from the clutches of the pervert in The Ready Made Family. What a good thing she did stop the train.

Treacle, you will be missing number 23 on AIBU Books Five, alas. NTAL by AL, in case another Fur Quit runs across this. I was quite tempted to recruit another set of addicts by sending Autumn Term travelling but thought it would be mean to you to send you something you'd read already!

I take it your DH is going to be sorry he didn't listen then, Treacle. Problems with sinister statuary, perhaps?

MCP all!

AIBU to forget that rice absorbs water?

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2010 14:01

Would this be your great-granny's garden, Elephants? Ta muchly for extra toffee popcorn! .
