Am I being unreasonable for getting upset that my husband keeps looking at porn?

Dittany

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you got the wrong end of the stick! I wasn't comparing people to food at all. My point was that those foods have been known to be produced in horrendous conditions, chocolatte in particular I believe has been associated with child labour. That in no way means that I'm going to give up chocolatte but I buy fair trade stuff instead.

Same with pron - the stuff consumed round here is: erotic fiction, amauteur stuff and a BDSM site ran by gay women.

I agree with the stuff about secret pron habits btw, but then secrets in commited relations are like cancer full stop.

amber1979 · 25/02/2010 17:37

and please don't try and compare the "ordeal" of an adult woman in the western world posting a vid of herself and her DH having fun on youporn, with a young child working a 16 hour day on a third world farm.

MrsMontague · 25/02/2010 17:38

What about the men involved then? Why do they do it?

There is a horrible sexist undertone to this post that has men down as pigs and perverts. There is a comparison with slave labour.

'And once again, there isn't anybody frenziedly masturbating over their cup of coffee because they know the person who picked the beans was only paid a dollar a day.'

That's ridiculous, no but people drink the coffee don't they? And why are you so convinced that men enjoy porn because the women are treated poorly? They like it, because its sex!

MrsMontague · 25/02/2010 17:40

Amber you have made the point very well, and I completely agree with all you have said.

If you are going to compare two unethical industries of non-essential products, then we should be comparing the treatment of adults in both industries and the treatment of children in both industries. It is disingenuous to make out that pornography is an industry that only exploits adults.

dittany go have a wander round on youporn. I personally recomend youc*cks.

I actually find the stuff that's clearly real more erotic. You know, stretch marks, beer bellies etc.... Sort of more like me and me DP lol...

dittany why shouldn't amber bring up those exceptions? Maybe because it threatens the credibilty of what you are saying? Y/ou are full of generalisations and hatred for men apparently? There are tons of amateur sites where women freely decide to post pics/videos of themselves. Does it really bother you that so many people actually enjoy exhibitionism, especially with the anonymous nature of amateur sites? lots of people like that kind of thing, and choose that. I find that thing quite hot sometimes, because thats what I choose.

Well considering I've seen a fair few gesturing or speaking to the camera - I think they at least know they are being filmed lol.

I think you'd like youc*cks - no women involved

amber1979 · 25/02/2010 17:54

anyway, I'm supposed to be making a fish pie. toodle pip.

Gosh Dittany, you really are uptight. Does it really bother you that people actually post themselves on ametuer sits by choice? Because lots of people do! People get a thrill out of it. Why is that so hard to believe?
And I like my DH to call me a slut and tie me up during sex, and I asked him to do that, so does that mean I am being abused? People like rough sex...it's not all rainbows and butterflies.

The last time we watched porn together it was RedTube, there is a variety of videos and you can choose by category, its fab...and just talking about me has made me want to watch with him tonight

dittany people do like that kind of thing, it's a fetish just like anything else, the thought of being watched.

The glamour/porn industry is a lot more glamorous in the eyes of some women these days, it may be misguided but when you watch things like Girls of The Playboy Mansion, they appear to have glamourous sexy lives (I have no doubt this is a front) but women see that and think its glamourous. And some people do like to post pictures/videos of themselves, they same as some people choose to be strippers, I have a friend who started stripping in uni and enjoyed it so much she still does it and the money is great. it turns some people on and some people find it liberating.

MrsMontague · 25/02/2010 18:08

Oh dittany I can see I am never going to win this argument with you, because you are talking nonsense. Of course it doesn't threaten me, and as I have pointed out, maybe 60 times now, I know that not all women will have consented and that's terrible, but plenty will have.

AFAIK when my DH is on his own, he flicks around RedTube and clicks on whatever he fancies at the time. Although he particuarly likes girl on girl, and threesomes. And it turns me on that he has such a healthy sex drive. I like to look at what he has been watching, because it turns me on because he likes it.

'I like to look at what he has been watching, because it turns me on because he likes it.'

Well that pretty much sums up Ariel Levy's entire argument about the impact of raunch culture on women in one very depressing line.
