...... Having never actually heard it, and only because I honestly cannot stand the X factor and the way there is no fun in the Christmas single race anymore

DH has bought it too, so it's not just me.

PS team cola to win.

i think i may still have some in shoe boxes somewhere - they were always kept in shoeboxes, didn't have the cash for one of those fancy tape holders!

nannynobnobs · 20/12/2009 19:52

Yay, I am so pleased RATM won out. If the X factor song was anywhere near a decent song it could have stood a chance on its own merits. But it's not, it's mediocre schmaltzy lounge singer crap. If it were released without all of the hype around the X factor, mid year, it wouldn't even make the top 20.

myalias · 20/12/2009 20:09

Fantastic result loved the song when it first came out. RATM are donating royalties from the track to the homeless charity shelter so an even better result. The X factor song is yet another cover version and a dull one at that. Cowell should come up with an original song not some namby pamby rubbish that is aimed at the tone deaf.

snowedinwithJjandtheBean · 20/12/2009 20:11

WOOOOOOOO!!!!

bye bye xfactor your grip on the sad acts of england is over, rule on RATM!

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 20/12/2009 20:17

YABVVU talk about being sucked in by a big load of cynical marketing!!! At least with the X-factor bubblegum pop you know what you are buying, its comercial music - just like rage against the machine!! niave!

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 20/12/2009 20:18

oh, hush my mouth - i didnt know that they were donating their royalties to homeless charity - go RATM!!! lol

Jacanne · 20/12/2009 20:28

The Just Giving page that the guys promoting RATM have set up has raised over £72,000 for Shelter - pretty amazing!

Wonderful! I can't take anymore X - Factor no.1 shite - just saw a clip of RATM on telly and was delighted to see a bit of rough performing rather than the airbrushed crap constantly presented in the charts...

JingleAllTheWay · 20/12/2009 20:51

Hooray. This was my thread originally and DH and I are so chuffed that x factors monopoly is broken. Had it been a half way decent song it might hav stood alone but it was not. Generous speech tho by the x factor boy. Have never watched x factor and never will.

Well, I'm personally delighted.

Because it's injected a spark of interest and enthusiam back into the Christmas No. 1 AND it's raised a great sum of money for a very worthy cause...

I haven't seen this many people show a REAL interest in the charts for such a long time and that's great because it does get people thinking about what is being put out there and reminds them that they do have a choice in the matter.

I've heard several people say that 'it's not fair to Joe and that he didn't deserve to be in this position' - Well, Neither did he *deserve the automatic right to be No. 1 just because he won a bloody talent show.

There again, I like RATM and have several albums... I'm still chuckling about the OP whistfully thinking of St. Winifreds choir!!!

herjazz · 20/12/2009 20:55

oh its hilarious isn't it? On so many levels

fukyoo I won't do whatcha tell me

go and download this single - get it to number one

oh ok then

hehe. I downloaded it as well. Most amusing

CarmenTinselPalmTreesSanDiego · 20/12/2009 22:28

Over the moon!

I don't get the argument about people 'doing what they're told' - everyone is telling someone to do/not do something, but we're exercising freedom of choice.

In my mind, it's got more to do with who is doing the telling. I'd rather take a suggestion from a group of people who don't stand to profit and have a good idea, than take a suggestion from Simon Cowell who has a sense of entitlement about the whole thing.

Did the Berlin wall come down because someone 'told' them to?

Well done everyone who bought it.

herjazz · 21/12/2009 08:54

eh what's the berlin wall got to do with it? This is rage not the scorpions!

nah I'm loving killing in the name of being no 1. I think its funny and great

MamaLazarou · 21/12/2009 08:59

People actually care what song is number one?

JingleAllTheWay · 21/12/2009 09:16

I think people have got increasingly frustrated by the x factor assumption that the winner releases and wins the coveted Christmas top spot. It used to be fun.

I wonder if x factor will have this next year too
