...... Having never actually heard it, and only because I honestly cannot stand the X factor and the way there is no fun in the Christmas single race anymore

DH has bought it too, so it's not just me.

PS team cola to win.

Love the RATM song. Have hated almost all of the previous Christmas X Factor songs.

I heard it's 39p at Amazon, just FYI. Not sure if that counts towards the total?

Katz · 19/12/2009 20:42

according to amazon:

Amazon.co.uk Music Team says:
We can confirm that sales of MP3s from Amazon.co.uk, including "The Climb" by Joe McElderry and "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against The Machine, count towards the Official UK Charts.

another route to getting this song to number 1.

harimorrychristmas · 19/12/2009 20:44

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep - RATM are on EPIC (owned by Sony).

Syco (Simon Cowell's label) is also owned by Sony.

Simon Cowell has nothing to do with epic.

Sony, I am sure, are pretty happy about this. Simon Cowell, I am equally sure, is not.

I couldn't much care if it upsets Joe. Alexandra Burke put up with the same last year.

Atleast there isn't a campaign to make Miley Cyrus no 1!

yama · 19/12/2009 20:44

YABU - you are making MORE people buy the X Factor single.

More money for Cowell.

Portofino · 19/12/2009 20:45

I have never heard either. I should download it. I hate on principle the idea of anyone from Xfactor being Xmas no. 1

BustleInYourHedgerow · 19/12/2009 20:46

DP got annoyed that I bought it because

a) We already have the album

b) 'Tom Morrello is a sell-out for doing Guitar Hero'.

CatchaStar · 19/12/2009 20:47

RATM are fantastic, I heart them. But I've already got the album with the song on and don't have an mp3 player so it sort of renders the buying it for xmas no.1 point moot for me

Would be pretty cool if they got it mind... Don't like Joe, ugh!

Rhian82 · 19/12/2009 20:48

I got it on iTunes. Hate whole X Factor genre, like being part of something, especially at Christmas!

Portofino · 19/12/2009 20:48

Um what is it called?

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 19/12/2009 20:50

By buying RATM you're also donating to Shelter, as they are donating all the proceeds to charidee. Nice.

Am I the only one who's amused that loads of people are going out and buying a song where one of the main lyrics is, "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me,"
.......because they were told to?

ImSoNotTelling · 19/12/2009 20:54

killing in the name of

I think haven't heard it since I was a slip of a girl

Katz · 19/12/2009 20:54

dryad - the irony is not lost on the founders of the campaign - in fact i think it partly why the song was chosen.

Portofino · 19/12/2009 20:58

Well according to iTunes that came out in 1992. What is going on in Blighty?

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 19/12/2009 21:00

Oh no, I'm sure the people who started the whole thing are well aware of it (in fact, I know they are, as have been exchanging emails with them due to dh doing them some free PR) but the people who are buyingnit having never heard it before, I wonder if they'll get it, or just think, "That's not music!" and rustle their Telegraph.

harimorrychristmas · 19/12/2009 21:00

Yes, Portofino, that's the one.

Katz · 19/12/2009 21:03

dryad - guess it depends on the punter really, in our household we certainly got the irony and have resistsed downloading any more than 2 copies!

Would be great if this was achieved but i have a feeling that even if RATM out sells Joe somehow it will still not be number 1, but then i'm very cynical about the whole x-factor processes.

AgentZigzagDoingAYuleLog · 19/12/2009 21:03

RATM are giving all the cash they get from it to Shelter

Portofino · 19/12/2009 21:04

I wish I had been a slip of girl in 1992! . I think I was 24!!!!

Portofino · 19/12/2009 21:06

So I am out of the loop totally. have they purposely rereleased this so some Xfactor shite doesn't make the Xmas no.1? If that is the case, my 99 cents was well spent.

Katz · 19/12/2009 21:09

i think i may be able to class my self as a slip of a girl in Dec 1992, i'd have been 14 nearly 15, songs like this on my tape recorded from the radio with my hair very badly dyed using henna and tie dye clothing

JingleAllTheWay · 19/12/2009 21:13

I did winder what rage thought of all this! Good to give the money to shelter tho.

More reason to go and buy it!!!!

Go, go, go now

buy it, not x factor bollixks.

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 19/12/2009 21:14

I was 10 in 1992.

I'm with you, Katz. I don't think RATM will be no1 either, regardless of how many copies they sell. Isn't there some kind of pop folklore about Sex Pistols getting or not getting to Xmas no1?

ImSoNotTelling · 19/12/2009 21:15

Yes porto that's it!

I was 17 and used to go to indie/metal/rock clubs and headbang when this came on..

ImSoNotTelling · 19/12/2009 21:15

It's a great song
