...... Having never actually heard it, and only because I honestly cannot stand the X factor and the way there is no fun in the Christmas single race anymore

DH has bought it too, so it's not just me.

PS team cola to win.

I bought it, liked and owned the song already but anything to create a bit of competition. And give me any proper song, written and recorded by the band, than a karaoke singer covering Miley Cyrus (!)

And I don't feel sorry for Joe in the slightest. If he loses out this week (which he probably won't), it'll be number one next week anyway.

CarmenTinselPalmTreesSanDiego · 20/12/2009 03:06

I bought it. It's all good fun! fingers crossed

Also, the RATM facebook group have raised almost 60,000 quid for Shelter so anyone saying it's about hate is really misled.

For Cowell to equate this to bullying is offensive to those who have actually been bullied.

StealthPolarBear · 20/12/2009 09:05

who is Miley Cyrus? i keep hearing the name!

arisHOHOHOcat · 20/12/2009 09:20

she s Billy Ray Cyrus DD who plays Hannah Montana in the childrens show

agree both records are rubbish though

MrsMorgan · 20/12/2009 09:37

I think the whole thing is childish. People are objecting to having no control over xmas number one but are then going and buying or downloading a different single because they have been told to. Slightly odd

I don't like either song, but Joe has conducted himself in a far more grown up manner wrt to the whole thing and so if I had to buy one, it would be his.

RATM are acting like 4 yr olds imo, 'oh look at me, i can swear'

tinalane · 20/12/2009 09:41

If you like it, its ok, if not, why are you worrying about things you don't like.

Isn't it better to spend your money on music you DO like & make yourself happier?

Happy Christmas!

JingleAllTheWay · 20/12/2009 09:59

well, we will find out soon either way !!

mrsruffallo · 20/12/2009 10:02

I won't be buying either of them.
They are both a bit shit.
I'd rather buy Slade

coolma · 20/12/2009 10:03

Am gutted that george micheals recird compny didn't press enough of his gorgy song to be in the running. It makes me cry every time I hear it

Jenbot · 20/12/2009 12:20

I think Jedward covering RATM should be Christmas number one, and I have set up a facebook group saying so (26 members so far, I feel almost famous).

JingleAllTheWay · 20/12/2009 13:22

make that 27 Jenbot ( although I'm not on facebook but I would be if could get round to it!)

as far as i'm concerned the best thing that has ever come out of X factor, which I consider a total heap of steaming wazz, is that I have been reminded how effing good RATM are. Reliving my early 20s

I do love the irony of it all though, choosing a band who are very anti consumerism for a buying campaign..

Fibilou · 20/12/2009 17:05

I might listen to the top 10 for the first time in about 15 years tonight....

Fibilou · 20/12/2009 17:08

"i think i may be able to class my self as a slip of a girl in Dec 1992, i'd have been 14 nearly 15, songs like this on my tape recorded from the radio with my hair very badly dyed using henna and tie dye clothing"

Ah, Katz, just like me !! We had a mania for making mixtapes with collage covers from music magazines

BlackYellowRed · 20/12/2009 18:28

apparently

  1. KILLING IN THE NAME RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE 502672
  2. THE CLIMB JOE MCELDERRY 450838
GoddessRidingSantasSleigh · 20/12/2009 18:32

do you mean rage against the machine has got no 1 blackyellowred?

BlackYellowRed · 20/12/2009 18:35

seems like it!

Fibilou · 20/12/2009 18:47

Yeah ! Smack that Cowell !!!!!!

harimorrychristmas · 20/12/2009 18:53

Yep... seems to have been confirmed now!!

santaicanexplain · 20/12/2009 18:58

yay!! liked watching the x factor but they had ruined the xmas number 1.

power to the people!!!!!!!

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 20/12/2009 18:59

Good just wish it had been a more xmassy song than RATM but glad x factor reign is over!

santaicanexplain · 20/12/2009 19:15

i think ratm was a perfect rebel song for the protest against everything that simon cowell stands for.

people are getting bored of all this manufactured rubbish that he pumps out,

Katz · 20/12/2009 19:25

fibilou - would that have been front covers from Smash hits magazine? Then your tapes would have looked like mine.

I miss mix-tapes with there poor sound quality and the clunk and blank gaps from my useless recording skills. Those were the days

drosophila · 20/12/2009 19:36

Music has never been so important to me that I actually buy it. Does that make me weird. I think too much importance is placed on music tbh. Don't buy any of them I say.

Fibilou · 20/12/2009 19:44

yes, Katz, that would be the ones !
