I'm genuinly interested in why you object to homosexuality, and everytime I ask on the other thread it gets lost in the general hubbub.

So - name change if you want, but please tell me what your objections are?

If it's because it's not natural or against biology, please expand your answer to include why you care about that.

Show your working for extra credit.

n.b. Don't bother if it's a religous justification, you'll need to find someone who believes in that kind of stuff to debate with as I'll just dismiss that out of hand. If you are a homopohbic religous person with a secular objection then please go ahead.

there is scientific evidence that there is this behaviour in animals - which kind of blows the 'sex for procreation only' theory.

which i would like to bring up as a big BIG point.

i happen to fuck my DH. i do not do it to procreate. i do it for pleasure.

wb · 10/12/2009 20:02

TBMOM- is captivity unnatural for a domesticated animal such as a sheep? Or a dog?

Anyway, have witnessed what you would term 'unnnatural acts' b/w lions and baboons in the wild, also b/w feral donkeys and domestic geese. Have a colleague who could horrify you about elephants too. As for the others, have you spent time observing and concluded it doesn't happen, or asked people who have?

I'm a zoologist, by the way. I'd hate you to think I just sit around looking for this stuff on the internet.

As for homo-sexual, I thought the derivation was from 'homo' meaning 'the same' (as in homogenous), so can't see why it wouldn't apply to animals but as I've already said, I'm a zoologist, not a linguist.

yummyyummyyummy · 10/12/2009 20:03

I am not against homosexuality , as far as I'm concerned consenting adults can do what they want.
I do object to children being exposed to the idea that homosexuality is as normal and natural as heterosexuality.Heterosexual sex exists for a reason - to procreate. The same can't be said of homosexuality.

MeltedTreeChocolates · 10/12/2009 20:05

OK i am actually gonna jump in properly here. I wrote my bit in the education thread.

I do think acting out your homosexual desires is a sin. My belief is it is not the way we were intended to be.

However. I am not a homophobe. I do not single out gays. I see it as no different (better/worse) to any other sin. We are all sinners. Therefore as a Christian it would be wrong for me to judge others and target them for their sexuality. I will not lie if asked if I think being actively gay is a sin, but I will not jump up and down and make a big deal of it either. That would be doing the opposite of what I think we as Christians are taught to do.

(Just wanted to make that point as you mentioned 'religion' in your OP oooj

As I said in my other post. I will teach my DS that some people love people of the same sex, and I will tell him how I feel abou tit. He will have to make his own decisions about it though. I would be bitterly disapointed if he targeted homosexuals.

Anyway, carry on...........

Tortington · 10/12/2009 20:05

Yummy,

sex is fun - all this 'natural' procreation argument is bullshit

Tortington · 10/12/2009 20:05

i can't get my head around people who only have sex to have babies.

LetThereBeRock · 10/12/2009 20:07

I can't understand why homophobes go on about it being 'unnatural'

Is it natural for humans to use the internet? Did nature 'intend' for us to drive cars? To use machinery? To use artificial contraception? To have IVF? To have organ transplants and hip replacements and artifical heart valves inserted? To grow and eat fruit and vegetables which are produced outwith their natural season etc?

MeltedTreeChocolates · 10/12/2009 20:11

Have to agree with other yummy that sex isn't just for reproduction......

MeltedTreeChocolates · 10/12/2009 20:12

others

OhChristmasTEEOhChristmasTEE · 10/12/2009 20:15

Yeah, also have to jump on the sex is not just for procreation bandwagon.

If god (or whomever or whatever you believe) created sexual intercourse just for the purpose of having babies, why did he (she/it/whatever) make it so much fun and feel so good?

MeltedTreeChocolates · 10/12/2009 20:22

I don't think He did create it JUST for recreation.

As a Christian, it is certainly not what we are led to believe...

SerenityNowAKABleh · 10/12/2009 20:23

In my experience (gross generalisations alert), men tend to be more homophobic than women. Some of my (straight) male friends do come out with some pretty ridiculous comments, but mostly I think it is from fear, that maybe somehow they might be "turned". One in particular was looking for a flatmate, said "I hope I don't end up with a gay flatmate" and did. There's been no issues. I also think (and this is because of some rather ridiculous male egos) that they think they are sooooooo irresistable, gay men will instantly fancy them and try it on on the spot.

I think there was a study were they showed men and women straight and gay porn, and measured their responses. Beforehand, they also handed out a questionairre on their attitudes to homosexuality etc. For most of the women, they were turned on by pretty much everything, but still said that they were straight, but not homophobic. For the men, generally speaking they were turned on by man and woman or woman and woman sex. Not as many by man on man, apart from those who had come out with the most homophobic responses on the questionairre. A lot of the time, I think men who are the most homophobic are those who secretly think that they may actually be gay.

daftpunk · 10/12/2009 20:24

op;

i think everyones had enough of this subject tbh....seems to have been going on for weeks...

pretty sure the thread started in education was started by a journo...and the thread started yesterday...?? don't think the op ever came back..

all you get on threads like this, are people like me listing reasons why homosexuality is wrong....then people telling me why it's completely normal and i'm an idiot...

nothing is ever achieved...

and more importantly, the lesbians on mumsnet have probably had enough....time to give them a break..

SerenityNowAKABleh · 10/12/2009 20:25

This is it. 1996 study carried out by the University of Georgia.

TBMOM · 10/12/2009 20:26

Please remember not to take this personally as I am only playing devil's advocate and do not endorse these beliefs whatsoever!

Custardo- have you ever heard the theory about animals mimicking human behaviour?

wb- sheep and dogs are domesticated but they still have a primitive brain and you cannot get more primitive than sex. And with regards to the word 'homo-sexual' I thought that it came from 'homo-sapien' but I am neither a linguist.

thisisyesterday · 10/12/2009 20:29

actually penguins are well known for creating same sex couples. generally 2 males. they have been observed finding a rock to use as an egg and trying to incubate it too.

and not just in captivity, in the wild too.

StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2009 20:31

is this the smallest ever MN clique?

Tortington · 10/12/2009 20:32

research citation needed please TBMOM

you really think that animals fuck the same sex becuase they saw two gay men do it in the forest? don't be ridic

also DP, if people are fucked off with the thread, they themselves shoudl say so. If there are lesbian Mnetters who are sick of it, let them post - rather than a self proclaimed homphobe doing it for them by proxy.

Tortington · 10/12/2009 20:33

the penguins only do it becuase Elton and David started fucking on the icebergs

I thought it was wide spread knowledge now that of of mammels, inc. humans have sex for pleasure and not just pro-creation?

On that subject, my mum believes her cat is gay. He has only ever brought home another boy cat and has never been interested in going out tomming, despite having not been neutered

My dog is either very horny or bi-sexual and bi-species. Unless he thinks he can create little baby sofa cushions, he definately goes more for the pleasure than the pro-creation bit

LetThereBeRock · 10/12/2009 20:38

Homo, meaning man or human, as in homo sapiens comes from Latin.
Homo as in homosexual or homozygous, meaning same, has ancient Greek roots. They aren't related.

daftpunk · 10/12/2009 20:41

custy;

all i'm saying is, nothing much is ever achieved....it's just two sides fighting..

y'know ..i'll read posts comparing homosexuality to heart transplants and IVF, and just rofl....
