I'm genuinly interested in why you object to homosexuality, and everytime I ask on the other thread it gets lost in the general hubbub.

So - name change if you want, but please tell me what your objections are?

If it's because it's not natural or against biology, please expand your answer to include why you care about that.

Show your working for extra credit.

n.b. Don't bother if it's a religous justification, you'll need to find someone who believes in that kind of stuff to debate with as I'll just dismiss that out of hand. If you are a homopohbic religous person with a secular objection then please go ahead.

I don't know what you think I will tell him.... I dont do the shouting about 'God Hates Gays' thing. That is so wrong and untrue. I don't understand those that do stuff like that.

MeltedTreeChocolates · 10/12/2009 22:16

Kat can you give me the book chapter and verse you are referring to? I have not read this..... :S

Oblomov · 10/12/2009 22:17

and rindercella, if going to the walton hop hasn't had any affect on you, then great. good for you. but it has on some people.
and not directed at you, but just generally, then :
if having a friend who was involved with jonathan king, didn't have any affect , then great. it may have had an affect some of their friends.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/12/2009 22:17

Oblomov - I'm afraid it is ignorance, if your DH and his friends are homophobic because of the actions of a very small number of gay men, some of whom might have been paedophiles. I'm afraid it sounds like your DH absolutely equates the two things. That is ignorance.

I got felt up by an old paedo when I was a kid. He was heterosexual, as well as a paedo. By your DH's logic I should either have a problem with all heteros or believe that all heteros are paedos.

Oblomov · 10/12/2009 22:18

Blu, your comment doesn't make any sense to me either.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/12/2009 22:19

Oh melted no sorry I can't...it was a good while ago and I don't own a bible anymore! If you know which book the anti-gay stuff is in, find it and read around it. There is stuff about eating shellfish, wearing two types of fabric at once and how you have to trim your beard. All delivered with equal importance, apparently.

Oblomov · 10/12/2009 22:20

kat, you are wrong. he does know the difference. the two are not comparable. he knows that. it is not ignorance.

Oblomov · 10/12/2009 22:21

you are being too simplistic. and not giving my dh enough credit. he is not stupid.

LetThereBeRock · 10/12/2009 22:22

So if he knows the difference between the two then why does he have a problem with homosexuality?

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/12/2009 22:23

but he's homophobic because he/his friends were abused by paedophile gay men.

That makes sense....

Oblomov · 10/12/2009 22:25

whats your definition of a problem ?
our nephew is gay. not a problem.

Oblomov · 10/12/2009 22:29

Thank you very much kat. it makes logical sense to me too. I can see why it happened.
me ? totally different. not bothered whether someone is gay/bi/ different collar and cuffs, etc etc etc. why ? becasue .... i don't know why, becasue i just not bothered. becasue i was bought up ...becasue i wasn't affected by something in the news ???? becasue .. becasue ....i just don't care.

Rindercella · 10/12/2009 22:30

Oblomov, with respect, you said, "all the men round here don't like gays. there are reasons". When questioned why, you went on to qualify it, "becasue they were involved in the gay community and the paedophilia of The Walton Hop, which is a few miles from us, where Jonathan King worked.".

My point was, not all men in the Walton area have a problem with gay people. That would just be daft (and scary in a Stepford Wives kind of way). I grew up in that area, and in that era. Thankfully, although I used to see King, Paton, etc., I never had anything to do with them (perhaps because I was a girl and not their cup of tea, who knows?). But, I went to school in the area, and still know a lot of people around there and I do not know one openly homophobic person.

Your husband's experiences, beliefs and feelings cannot be held as representative of a whole community.

MeltedTreeChocolates · 10/12/2009 22:31

Kat could not find what you were talking about. Although I read about mentruation. No sacrifices needed where I was reading. not sure what you are reffering to.

Notanamechanger · 10/12/2009 22:32

I am not religious and I don't object to homosexuality for biblical reasons. Tbh I don't really object to it as such - have had very many gay friends in my life and believe in each to their own etc.
I do,however, firmly believe it is a personality defect - often arising from a dysfunctional childhood. That's something most of my gay friends have had in common.
I don't believe there is any biological or evolutionary reason for homosexuality - AIDS kills, after all!
And finally - if lesbians want to be with women, why do they choose partners who look like men?!

Oblomov · 10/12/2009 22:33

cella, yes sorry, too fast typing. sorry should have said, nearly all my husbands friends and all the people I know who grew up here.
not everyone.

Rindercella · 10/12/2009 22:33

Fuck.

sprouting · 10/12/2009 22:33

Melted, its Lev 12.

You have to take a lamb plus a pigeon or a turtledove to the priest for sacrifice.

Don't worry if you can't afford a lamb, you can use 2 turtledoves or 2 pigeons instead.

ItsIgginningToLookALotLikeXmas · 10/12/2009 22:34

Some of it is in Leviticus 12:2-5. (I just googled that, so don't take it as gospel )

Rindercella · 10/12/2009 22:34

That was to Notanamechanger by the way, not you Oblomov

sprouting · 10/12/2009 22:35

and its only after giving birth I think rather than normal mensturation

ItsIgginningToLookALotLikeXmas · 10/12/2009 22:37

However during normal menstruation men shouldn't touch you/sit in same chair etc, not just not have sex.

Oblomov · 10/12/2009 22:39

cella, and my dh is not openly homophobic. infact I do not think of him at homophobic. to me that suggests ignorance, or irrational fear. but dh's is not irrational. he was affected by what happened. and he is not keen on gay. but he doesn't say this to anyone. not outside our home.
mind you, we also live in a highly strong catholic community, so I guess it may have been propaganda'ed into him that men and women meant to pro-create etc etc.
I guess I see that as slightly different.

sprouting · 10/12/2009 22:40

I just read in Lev 15 that you do need the pigeons/turtledoves for a normal period.

MeltedTreeChocolates · 10/12/2009 22:40

Ah yes found it Kat Sacrifice is no longer needed in general though because of Christ's death.

Anyway, enjoy your discussion (totally diferent one now apparently)
