I'm genuinly interested in why you object to homosexuality, and everytime I ask on the other thread it gets lost in the general hubbub.

So - name change if you want, but please tell me what your objections are?

If it's because it's not natural or against biology, please expand your answer to include why you care about that.

Show your working for extra credit.

n.b. Don't bother if it's a religous justification, you'll need to find someone who believes in that kind of stuff to debate with as I'll just dismiss that out of hand. If you are a homopohbic religous person with a secular objection then please go ahead.

'someone said 'homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of god.'

I expect hate filled bigotry is a bigger sin.'

Exactly Riv.

'Mt 19:16-19 "And behold, one came to Him and said, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?" And He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." He *said to Him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
'

You shall love your neighbour as yourself

'John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.'

'Jn 15:10-12 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love. "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. "This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you'

You cannot love one another without respecting the very core of them- and respecting that.ytou don't have to likke it- I don't like everything about those I love- but I don't have to.

I know that others prefer to follow different parts of the Bible, such as leviticus (though I only have any real sense of understanding of that if they follow it all,not just the bits they fancy) but to me these are the core essentials of my faith and I believe if you follow those not only will you truly follow the path of Jesus, but you will be a pretty good person also.

(Sorry for the religious interlude)

MsDoctor · 12/12/2009 17:14

There is always a place for religion, even if only to illustrate that 'man' has been thinking about an issue for a couple of millennium.

DP if you wish to have the right to post your views then OK, but that hs to go hand in hand with others being able to post theirs

Whether its lenin, or wolly liberals like myself

Freedom of speech has to be for all or none

And myy hea dis not up my arse,it would struggle to get past my gut toreach it, for a start

You are entitled to your views ( though I do think we have a moral responsibility not to post hurtful views and some you post are exactly that),but so am I and you know by now that I willalways take a very different viewpoint on these matters to yourself.

do we know each other...?

don't reco your name but you know i vote BNP.....how's that..?

Kaloki · 12/12/2009 18:42

DP > If you say that you believe that;

  • artificial insemination for heterosexual couples is wrong
  • any form of sex within a heterosexual relationship which isn't meant for procreation is wrong (so no masturbation or contraception included)
  • that anything not 100% natural and "created by God" is wrong (for this I expect you to throw away your PC, and will accept non-reply as agreement)
  • that people should be discriminated against (eg. bullying, violence, denied employment)
  • that the part in the Bible about homosexuality is wrong is more important than the bit about loving thy neighbour

Then I will understand your views. I won't respect them, but I will understand.

If you don't believe any of these points then you could really do with thinking about this a little more.

MsDoctor · 12/12/2009 18:43

Daftpunk.....breathtaking.

'there is something wrong when a lesbian bringing up children concieved by artificial insemination has more respect than a married hetrosexual woman.....something very wrong.'

All things being equal I think you'll find most 'normal' people would like to think they had the same amount of respect. It's foolish people who think any good parent should be judged upon the merits of their sexuality. As for religion I can't think any truly good person would follow anything other than a benevolent God.

Daftpunk, are you a journo? Noone could have so many dumbass views in real life, can they?

noddyholder · 12/12/2009 19:02

There is no way one person could have so much hate in them.It is just not possible to get through life and have good relationships personal and social/work etc with so many prejudices.

gomez · 12/12/2009 19:05

Nasty doesn't come close Noddy.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 12/12/2009 19:07

I don't see why people don't think DP is for real.
Surely you've had colleagues like this? I know I have... My parents hold almost identical views to hers, and are equally willing to expound on them at length.

And if further proof you seek, go to the Daily Mail online and take a look at the comments page. Actually, don't, as it will shred the last remaining fragments of your faith in the basic decency of humanity. But DP is far from alone in the real world.

Its not that I haven't met people who are either racist/homophobic/ageist etc etc but all in one person that is one huge disaster waiting to happen

Why stop at one prejudice when you can have a collection, noddyholder?

Seriously, though, if someone starts banging on about illegal immigrants coming over for the free houses and wide-screen TVs, you can generally assume they're not going to be on the next Gay Pride march. And won't be saying, 'Well, until we see equal pay for equal work, I don't believe feminism has gone far enough'.

daftpunk · 12/12/2009 19:56

pexplosions;

ummm;....quite a list isn't it...

to be fair, i have been here 2 years, so what i've said has been spead over 24 months....i haven't hit you with it all in one day..

y'know, at least on MN i had some chance, people would talk to me and alot of what was said i took in....

but the attitude towards me is becoming increasingly hostile, and the last thing i want is to make anyone on MN feel uncomfortable.....but i'll never be able to change the way i post..

of course some of what i say on here i wouldn't say to people's faces....i know how to behave...i'm not a complete animal..

i just thought on here people could say things they don't say in RL..y'know, air your views, thrash things out and hopefully get somewhere...

people on here take the piss out of religion, saying we believe in fairies and father christmas and basically being disrespectful, i know they wouldn't say that to people in RL.....i don't take it personally...

maybe i'll join some BNP sites and get dragged even further into hardcore fascism...

who knows....?

noddyholder · 12/12/2009 20:02

good idea close the door on your way out....

MsDoctor · 12/12/2009 20:07

You're wrong DP, most of us are comfortable enough with our own views that we can air them in public. The reason for this is that our views are not born out of ignorance and hatred. Most of us are tolerant and kind, willing to reserve judgement about things we know nothing of or don't understand. Being deceitful in our judgments would only prove that we knew we were wrong.

CarmenSanDiego · 12/12/2009 20:24

but i'll never be able to change the way i post..

Of course you could. You just won't.

hester · 12/12/2009 21:36

Words matter, dp. I'm a lesbian mother from a multiracial family and with a black partner. Every day we navigate attitudes like yours - and they do count and they do hurt. You may just say it and not behave 'like an animal' in public; but maybe one of your children will bully or bash one of mine at school.

The stakes are really high for some of us. Which is why your complacent attitude of 'these are my attitudes and i don't intend to change them', and your refusal to listen or try to learn - even from people you say are your mates - are so depressing. I wish you could see the very real harm you cause, but you won't, you won't.

So I'm off to smoke a pipe (butchly) with Lenin. See you all later.
