I can't get into the old thread so I think we filled it up! I hope everyone finds the new one.

So nice, shiny new thread, nice shiny new AIBU.

AIBU to be jealous of my DH's correspondence with a stranger?

Pogle, I feel I ought to know yours but I'm not getting anywhere.

Maria, this isn't ringing bells at all now. Doh!

Hi llandb, you have missed out if Antonia Forest wasn't part of your childhood. Lots of information about AF and the incomparable Marlows

on here

Cor, finally managed to do a clever linkie!

Your one sounds intriguing. May I beg another clue, please?

As for the PI, now she's doing her knitting FGS! But very well, and in the continental fashion...

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 08/05/2009 18:29

Ooh, llandb, was it you who lied about your skills or your father?

OP posts:
llandb · 08/05/2009 19:50

It was me; nothing to do with handing over unborn children here

As for my father, I don't recall making mention of him but I wouldn't have a hope of seeing him for a very, very long time.

llandb · 08/05/2009 20:41

Oh, Moomin', thanks for clever AF linkie! My, I have missed out, haven't I? boo-hoo - will have to obsessively catch up! Wonder if any aunties or some such have a secret stash - have my doubts.

Puzzled by clever knitting Victorian-dressed PI....

MoominMymbleandMy · 08/05/2009 21:05

llandb, I am equally puzzled by your one! Perhaps another clue, please. Or are you feline?

I now discover the PI used to be a governess. And taught a Chief Constable when he was small. With contacts like that, maybe I ought to take her more seriously.

And she does seem to have some sterling qualities...

PS AF's Autumn Term is in print if you want to test-run her. It's a paperback Faber and Faber and quite easy to find.

OP posts:
llandb · 08/05/2009 21:18

Oh dear, I'd never heard of her (so would never have guessed it) but shall add this to the list of must-investigates! Shall leave further questioning to non-cheaters

Not feline this time, though possibly I have a few musings regarding felines (but more of that later; don't want to give things away).

Now I didn't specifically lie to get the job; I lied to save my skin and they were so impressed that gave me the job! Well, they let the incumbent stay but they made me The Boss. Incidentally, he knows that I know that he's a fraud but he can't suss me out because I'm too avant-garde.

MoominMymbleandMy · 08/05/2009 21:29

Oh dear, I am as stumped as a stumped thing!

OP posts:
llandb · 08/05/2009 21:55

Well, I don't think I am BU. If some strangely-dressed people were threatening to burn you at the stake wouldn't you try to produce a miracle too?

MoominMymbleandMy · 08/05/2009 23:37

Man-flu...ah, you need your rest!

Well, I still have no idea so I shall hope someone cleverer comes along.

And, in the meantime, AIBU to be very upset at being apprenticed to a mercer instead of a grocer?

OP posts:
Poledra · 08/05/2009 23:45

Ah, here you all are! The DCs have been hoovering up my time recently, so have missed all the end of the last thread. I looooved Peter's Room when I was a child - we had that exact copy you linked to CJ. I have no idea where it is now. I didn't read any of the others, just that one and I so wanted to spend a holiday like that.

Have no idea on the books y'all are describing now; this was just a long-winded way of getting this onto Threads I'm On. G'night.

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/05/2009 00:00

Night all! Shall dream about stakes and witches now.

OP posts:
CJCregg · 09/05/2009 00:47

Hello all ... and goodnight, it's far too late.

Moomin, I'm slightly ashamed to say that I've been exploring the world of AF fanfiction. Actually I'm very ashamed, but there's something irresistible about revisiting those characters, and some of it's not that bad ...

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/05/2009 10:24

Good morning all! I have woken up completely uninspired on burnings at the stake so some lots of help would be much appreciated, please.

And, woe of woes, I am also still lacking Peter's Room because some bugger lucky person outbid me at the last minute.

CJ, there is AF fanfiction?! And publishers still think there isn't a market for reprints. How very unenterprising of them.
How about a linkie, please.

Now, I think IAB a bit U about being apprenticed to the mercer. If I emulate him I might be thrice Mayor of London, after all. And he is a kind man. But there are other reasons...

OP posts:
llandb · 09/05/2009 12:47

Oh Moomin', at least you are kind to your cat, though it must break your heart to send him on the ship.

Meanwhile, that young lad who has befriended me seems to be a bright spark but a bit of an impetuous blunderer. He tried to save me, in so doing nearly got me killed, but as it turned out, he muddled up the dates and ended up actually saving me!

And he's only kidding but I think he has a good point when he says that the monarchy should be replaced with cats.

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/05/2009 13:09

Hi llandb, not so fast there! It is my master who was thrice Mayor of London, not me!

But he is nice to his cat and says all that stuff about sending her on board ship is just a fairy tale he told my sister.

I, however, am a lowly apprentice who had thought he was going to be a grocer. Now, I find I am to be a mercer...just after having had a lucky escape from being duffed up by the biggest bully of a mercer's apprentice I've ever seen. Oops!

I can't have read your one, but I think I need to!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 09/05/2009 16:39

Hello again all! Moomin, are you within sound of Bow Bells? And if you're interested in AF fanfiction, try googling Rose and Lizard - she's good(sorry ,can't do links!)There is also a LiveJournal fansite called Trennels.Oh dear,I know altogether too much about this..
Yours sounds interesting llandb(not recognisable yet unfortunately...)

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/05/2009 16:45

Hooray! Pogle, go to the top of the class! And thank you for the opportunities to waste even more time...

AIBU to be repelled by my new nanny's physical appearance?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 09/05/2009 17:45

You're very welcome!
YABU (a bit). Physical appearance isn't everything - after all, it's not as if it reflects anything else,is it? ...

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/05/2009 18:10

Oh, but Pogle, she is so hideous I am worried she will frighten the DCs. And I have such a lot of them. If they all start screaming at once...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 09/05/2009 20:25

yabu, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as your kids get to know their nanny they will think she is gorgeous

pollywobbledoodle · 09/05/2009 20:25

(hope you don't mind me butting in)

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/05/2009 20:59

Pollywobbledoodle, all book loonies are very welcome

Why do you think the DCs will think the nanny gorgeous though? The snaggle tooth is enough to scare them in itself.

OP posts:
CJCregg · 09/05/2009 21:23

Moomin, so sorry you lost out on Peter's Room. Fan fiction is great fun, though - I sat up half the night last night, reading 'Esther's Term'!

Re your nanny, at least you can take comfort in the fact that she'll never take them to McDonald's.

pollywobbledoodle · 09/05/2009 21:48

aibu to think that being a nanny who is named after a computer antiviral programme (sort of) and carries a big magic stick will not win her charges over such that her snaggle tooth will heal and her warts drop off.....
