Must go and spend some time with DH!This thread is addictive - Night all!

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 22:49

I suspect Rosemary Sutcliffe's Romans were a lot nicer than the real thing but I loved that series.

Right, my new one, nice and frivolous: AIBU to detest this acquaintance? She makes all our circle listen to her dreary piano playing and pretends to speak Italian.

salome64 · 19/04/2009 22:52

blimey, wasn't playing dreary piano an occupational hazard of all victorian girlies?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 23:09

Post-Victorian, and I think she's also scheming to get her paws on the house my auntie left me...

I'm falling asleep here so I'll clock out too, probably to dream of Simplysally's book, which is really bugging me.

Good night ladies.

Poledra · 19/04/2009 23:18

SimplySally, are you sure you want to leave your country? One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs......

Simplysally · 19/04/2009 23:22

Well there's plenty of sunshine but not much in the way of everyday essentials like food or medicines.

Not that we're allowed out after sun-down anyway .

Googled it in a fit of pique intellectual curiosity.

I have read that book but don't remember that part at all!

Stayingsunnygirl · 20/04/2009 11:28

I am the head teacher of a private school. AIBU to employ an ex-army chap who has had a breakdown and has no teaching qualifications?

MitchyInge · 20/04/2009 11:29

Are there pheasants?

MoominMymbleandMy · 20/04/2009 11:37

Staying sunny, YANBU, he will serve you all his days.

Lovely book.

Stayingsunnygirl · 20/04/2009 12:07

I thought that one would be got quickly, Moomin!

If I were getting a mark for that effort, I think it would be "C-. Stayingsunny could do better."

MoominMymbleandMy · 20/04/2009 12:17

Nooo! I like 'em easy!

salome64 · 20/04/2009 13:49

Our neighbours dd is right PITA. She's always coming round, letting herself in, helping herself to food etc and breaking stuff. I even caught her snoozing in my ds' bed! I do feel a bit sorry for her, as she's clearly not happy at home. Should I get tough and start locking the doors?

TheScatterGunApproach · 20/04/2009 13:53

Goldilocks...?

salome64 · 20/04/2009 14:35

Yup! Pesky minx!

TippytheTipsyTurkeychick · 20/04/2009 14:47

Can I play please?

My husband has accepted a post as a Baptist missonary in the Belgian Congo. My young daughters and I are to accompany him for a year, luckily I have packed plenty of Betty Crocker cake mix packets. He is v enthusiastic but I can't help thinking it won't end well.

TippytheTipsyTurkeychick · 20/04/2009 14:52

ooo, and another

My feckless sister has bolted again, leaving me with her daughter who has an unfortunate name and wiry hair. I am about to be affianced to a military man, inclined to be a hypochondriac (sp?) but a good match nontheless. I have therefore left her in the care of my brother and his vague wife for much of the time. They have a brood of wild, uneducated children and my brother is a mad old bigot with a sad habit of hunting the children on horseback. AIBU to leave her there anyway?

salome64 · 20/04/2009 14:58

I guess it depends on what you are chasing in general. maybe a bit of love would help all involved?

TheScatterGunApproach · 20/04/2009 14:58

Poisonwood Bible?

MoominMymbleandMy · 20/04/2009 15:00

Tippsy, I think you should pursue The Bolter and get her to face up to her parental responsibilites.

No one able to help on my detestable acquaintance problem? Oh well, au reservoir!

TheScatterGunApproach · 20/04/2009 15:02

request for more clues on detestable acquaintance?

MoominMymbleandMy · 20/04/2009 15:05

You just got one! OK, another....I shudder at the sight of kitchen tables...
