Oh moomin, stay away from those canals!, or else you might have to signal for help!

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 20:26

Salome, I think wine makes you even cleverer!

salome64 · 19/04/2009 20:28

aw!

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 20:37

AIBU to think my great nephew has taken leave of his senses? He's recovering from an injury which invalided him out of the army, but he and his chum are now planning to set off on a dangerous quest to find a miltary relic. What can I tell his mother?!

Pogleswood · 19/04/2009 20:37

My family life is rather complicated, and currently I am in a marriage of convenience with the daughter of an old friend.I love her,but feel I am unworthy of her, I have now discovered that she is in love with me - AIBU to divorce her and remarry in spite of this,as I am sure this is a crush which she will get over(she does have an attractive and eligible admirer, from the same part of the country as herself, who would marry her instantly).

salome64 · 19/04/2009 20:39

Pogle... TOTALLY worthy of IABU! no idea, but love it!

Moomin, eek!

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 20:41

Hmm, Pogle, complicated. Could it be that you married the girl to get her a British passport in a hurry?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 20:44

Salome, "Eek," is appropriate but I don't think it will comfort her!

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 20:49

Military that should be, oops!

TheScatterGunApproach · 19/04/2009 21:01

more clues pls!!

BalloonSlayer · 19/04/2009 21:42

Moomin - yayyyy! I love you !!

You are right, it's this

and the other one is this but now I have spoiled the surpise

Poledra · 19/04/2009 21:47

Cor, BalloonSlayer, that was a really cryptic clue for the Wasp Factory - I've read that book hundreds of times and didn't see it at all. Respeck

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 21:57

Bless me Balloon! What diverse reading matter!

Will I be despised forever if I admit I enjoyed The Wishing Chair much more than The Wasp Factory?

Clues to my hare-brained great nephew...right, the silly boy feels the need to redeem his father's name in going on this quest.

BalloonSlayer · 19/04/2009 22:04

Ah I'm not proud people didn't get it... or am I missing the purpose of this thread?

Someone did "The Remains of the Day" earlier today and I was as I love that book but couldn't think of a way to present it so it could be "got" after a little thought. Similarly Gulliver's Travels. So fed up when one of mine didn't get "got."

Simplysally · 19/04/2009 22:09

AIBU? I live in a country which has had some civil uprising but I met and married my DH after my Mother sadly died. Now he's married a second wife but I have found out that her child is not my DH's. This caused us to fall out for a time but now we are friends. She's about to have another baby which is my DH's but we are now thinking of emigrating to another country taking the children with us.

Are we being unreasonable in leaving our DH behind?

salome64 · 19/04/2009 22:13

Oh Balloony baby! I've had loads not got (sob sob). Blame us ignorant selves for not being well read enough (must try harder)

salome64 · 19/04/2009 22:18

'tis a fine line between cryptic and witty....

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 22:21

Pogle, where are you? I want to know if I'm on the right track!

Pogleswood · 19/04/2009 22:21

Entire affair pre passport era! My wife's mother is looking after my young son (or at least he is living as my son.) And AIBU to refuse to have anything to do with my elderly mother, who adores me,because I think she deceived me over the circumstances of my birth? (Hope I'm not the only person on Mumsnet to have read this series!)

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 22:22

Mmm, I tend to err on the sledgehammer obvious side.

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 22:23

Not on the right track...

Pogleswood · 19/04/2009 22:24

Sorry moomin, had to do bedtime! your great nephew wasn't a roman by any chance?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 22:27

Pogle wins a medal!

Pogleswood · 19/04/2009 22:36

if only i could do it with Dostoevsky too...

MariaCC · 19/04/2009 22:41

Oh. My. God. Moomin, it's Eagle of the Ninth. Now, that takes me back...
