To think that actually, it is NOT boring being a SAHM/housewife!

I am currently nursing a sick baby - have had to take the whole week off work. Now I am sick - and it's very hard work!

Worried about work too - I also had to take 2 days off the week before last.

I admire any SAHM - I know I couldn't do it full time.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 26/03/2009 11:21

Yabvu .

'tis boring me to tears at the moment.

JustCallMeGoat · 26/03/2009 11:22

depends pre-school or prancing round going t othe gym while they are at school the later i could cope with.

OrmIrian · 26/03/2009 11:23

I think it depends on what you have to do. If I were at home full time I'm sure I'd find plenty to do. ATM housework consists of a surface clean because there isn't time to do anymore. If I were at home I'd be able to get some serious stuff done and perhaps finally get down to some decluttering and decorating.

And we might even end up with clean skirting boards..

hf128219 · 26/03/2009 11:24

The gym, gin and lunch option could tempt me too!

FlyMeToDunoon · 26/03/2009 11:24

Nine years in and I am often bored to tears too.
DD3 will start nursery in sept and then I hope to be able to do something outside of childcare and housework.

MillyR · 26/03/2009 11:25

Nothing is perfect; whatever you choose to do in life, some of it will be boring, sometimes fun, sometimes rewarding, sometimes depressing, sometimes hard work, sometimes easy and so on.

alicecrail · 26/03/2009 11:28

I love it but i do have 2 horses to go out to twice a day. i don't get more done simply because dd naps while i do horses so can't let her out of my sight the rest of the day so everything has to be done when dh gets home

HappyHome · 26/03/2009 11:28

Like everything it has its good and bad times. Personally I found pre school hard work but now how can it be boring I have so much to fit in - shopping, coffee with friends, shopping, lunch oh and did I mention shopping all to fit in before school finishes!

francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2009 11:29

What MillyR said.
I find that looking after toddlers 24/7 is torture.

BuckBuckMcFate · 26/03/2009 11:31

YANBU!

Over the past 10 years I have done working fulltime mum, working parttime mum and I'm now a SAHM.

SAHM is what suits our family (and me) the best at this time in our lives.

We have 3 DC and I'm pg with no 4 so there is enough going on to never be bored!

I do have a slower pace of life now but I don't miss the morning rush to get us all out of the house, I don't miss the stress of getting through traffic to do the school pickup.

I am very lucky that I have a group of friends who are either SAHM or working partime so I do still get to have adult conversation which IME has a big effect on how I view SAHMdom.

There are parts of being a SAHM that are shitty but then there are parts of WOHM that are shitty too.

er...i think it can be a little bit boring..quite alot of the time

MillyR · 26/03/2009 11:38

How old are your kids Daftpunk?

rolandbrowning · 26/03/2009 11:38

I used to find work a lot more boring, but I did have a very boring job.

luckywinner · 26/03/2009 11:40

It definitely has its boring days, it isn't all peachy roses. But I do like the freedom it gives me. And is infinitely more fun now that dc are school age.

But just like buck says, whatever suits you. Everyone is different.

daftpunk · 26/03/2009 11:41

all at school MillyR...so i'm not as bored as when they were little...potty training and all that..[yawn yawn].

purepurple · 26/03/2009 11:42

I think it's a case of the grass being greener

on reflection, I miss being a SAHM
but when i was, I did want a bit of time to myself

working full time is not much fun either

hazeyjane · 26/03/2009 11:43

Well at the moment I'm watching dd1 (3) feed dd2 (22 months) soup, so there are ways to make it less boring!

It is very messy though, and the cleaning up part i do find boring.

Karam · 26/03/2009 11:44

YANBU because some people love it and enjoy it. However, it is not for me, and at the end of my mat leaves, I was desperate to go back to work. Just couldn't do the whole mother and toddler group thing. Even now at the end of the summer school hols I'm looking forward to going back to work! But I appreciate that other people enjoy it - I just have an allergy to housework that's all!

TheOddOne · 26/03/2009 11:45

When my two were preschoolers (small age gap)i used to go out visiting friends and family alot. It could be monotonous (all those shitty little arses) but not boring.

Now they are at school i'm bored shitless and undermotivated to get my shakey business back off the ground again (it was doing well pre DSs). So i wander aimlessly in circles.....

Bored Shitless.

MillyR · 26/03/2009 11:45

Maybe its not a bad thing to be bored; maybe it reflects a calm nature. I am WOHM but regardless of what I'm doing, I tend to get stressed rather than bored.

I was not bored by potty training; I was stressed by it and blew it out of all proportion, like I do everything else. I have some admiration for people who can calmly think, oh this is a bit boring.

francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2009 11:47

I get bored and stressed in life in general.
I really enjoy spending my time with the dc now (they are 6 and 4), but really toddlerhood was boring and stressful for me.

MinkyBorage · 26/03/2009 11:48

my dc are 3.5 and 2.2, and in the next day or so will hopefull be joined by a new dc. I love being sahm, and would hate to go to work and leave them, but it is hard sometimes, although I can't say get bored really, but perhaps that's because I haven't got a brain left!

TheOddOne · 26/03/2009 11:49

No it's bad for me to be bored.
Because i eat.
And drink.

Also - my talents are going to waste (didn't feel like this when DSs were smaller as i was looking after them full time). Now i'm starting to panic......
