Everywhere and everyone now refers to children as kids. "Kids Menu" ffs. I hate it. They even said kids on the 10 o clock BBC news the other night.

I hate it.

Whats wrong with kids?

umberella · 07/10/2008 11:29

it's not THAT BAD, c'mon!

rosealbie · 07/10/2008 11:29

I'm with you - I can't stand it either.

I remember being interviewed once for a magazine article to do with work and when it was printed I was quoted as referring to 'kids' which I would never have said! It sounded so odd.

zippitippitoes · 07/10/2008 11:29

lol yiou are too uptight

Aliensloveunderpants · 07/10/2008 11:29

YABU, unless you are over 80. Languages change all the time, especially English with is so widely spoken and therefore exposed to a lot of influences. Adapt and learn to live with it, or forever be considered a dreary fuddy-duddy.

Kewcumber · 07/10/2008 11:29

why?

lots of words are abbreviated, what makes "kids" so bad.

Hassled · 07/10/2008 11:30

Why do you hate it? Nothing to do with baby goats - a valid alternative to "children". I have 4 kids - they are collectively "The Kids".

(Sometimes I call them The Kiddywinks )

MorningTownRide · 07/10/2008 11:30

Well I think it's very apt.

Children are like baby goats.

jette · 07/10/2008 11:30

I hate kiddies but kids is okay..

Kewcumber · 07/10/2008 11:30

are you Joyce Grenfell?

Can visualise you saying "come along children" very smartly.

bran · 07/10/2008 11:31

Although YANBU to be annoyed at "Kids menu", obviously it should be "Kids' menu".

FabioCatello · 07/10/2008 11:31

kids is fine
kiddies is not
kiddiwinks - punishable by death

My children call their toys 'the kids' - as in 'let's take the kids in the car'.
You sound very uptight. Is this a form of snobbery?

That's me done for then, Fabio. I'll choose stoning, if that's OK.

FabioCatello · 07/10/2008 11:32

x posts hassled
but NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

nametaken · 07/10/2008 11:32

How very dare you disagree with me - kick away and no I'm not 80 I'm 79 so there.

Just hate it. Not so much on mumsnet when we use it for brevity, but on the BBC news. It seems like they are downgrading children.

Oh my God hope no-one does a search to find out how many times I've said "kids" on mumsnet.
