To still go to church even the weekend my friend is staying with me?

My friend is coming to visit and to stay with me Saturday - Wednesday. We have mutual friends in the area who we will also meet up with together. I go to church on Sunday mornings and it’s important to me so I’d still like to go whenever my friend is staying. AIBU? I don’t know if she’d like to come with me (she’d be welcome to) but she doesn’t have to and I’d be quite happy for her to relax at my house or for her to get the bus somewhere to do her own thing for the morning. It will only be for a couple of hours and then I’ll be home. Would it be ok for me still to go when she’s visiting?

I’d say Absolutely - say I’m going and you’re welcome to come or have a relaxing morning and either meet after or whatever
not unreasonable at all

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · Today 22:28

Of course YANBU to still go.

Thats your religion and that’s what you do. If it means a lot to you, your friend shouldn’t begrudge you that.

As you’ve said, it isn’t a long time.

Many might not believe that it’s necessary to go to church even if you are Christian but that’s them not you. Or even if you don’t think it’s necessary but want to go, you should.

Upthehill32156 · Today 22:29

I think if you explain to her it's important to you, and defo invite her too, it should be ok. Perhaps polite to check with her that she's ok with that, maybe before she arrives so she knows what to expect... Or she could do some research if she wanted to find something else to do on Sunday morning.

Littlejellyuk · Today 22:31

Hi OP! 👋
You should deffo go to church!
Tell your pal she's welcome to attend, or to potter around or to have a lie in and then show her where the kettle is 😆

Hope you have a lovely time with your pal xx

Personally I think it's rude. You are Christian I am assuming so you don't actually need to go to church to worship god. In fact Christ was fairly anti organized religion but that's got lost.

Basically you are going to church to see other people other than the friend you've invited to come and spend time with you. You are losing basically a quarter of the weekend to something that unless it's Easter or Christmas is not that important for you to attend.

HappyLizard23 · Today 22:31

YANBU, I need to take communion each week to feel close to God. It’s important to me and something I think all Christians need to do. My friends understand.

Onbdy · Today 22:31

Unreasonable in my opinion. It’s a bit rude to leave a guest in your house while you go out to something like a church which I’m assuming you go to every Sunday and that it’s not essential. I wouldn’t be impressed if someone I was staying with did this.

PurpleThistle7 · Today 22:33

I think it’s totally fine. I’d just mention it ahead of time so she can plan around it. She might quite like a lie in anyway.

5289843DM · Today 22:33

As long as she is aware before her visit what your plans are, then of course its fine and she too can plan accordingly. I wouldn't want her to plan a boozy brunch with your other friends or early farmers markets etc so just let her know.

Usernamesalltakenblues · Today 22:33

Of course you should still go to church OP.

I think yes you should tell her she is very welcome to come along with you if she wishes.

Surely if she is your friend she must know you are a practising Christian so you going to church whilst she is staying with you shouldn't be a problem for her?

metowel · Today 22:34

I’d find it quite rude if I was the friend tbh. I wouldn’t say anything but I’d feel a bit snubbed.
Unless your mutual friends could take her for coffee?

Charel2girl5 · Today 22:35

Of course it’s fine. She’ll probably enjoy having some space, a nice bath and getting ready for the day.
You are absolutely not being rude. Enjoy church!

MissFancyDay · Today 22:36

I think it's a bit rude and I would feel a bit put out if I had travelled to see you and you had a prior engagement that you didn't have to go to.

You should prioritise your friend in this instance.

Bikenutz · Today 22:36

I would just broach it with her, have a conversation and see how she feels. She might appreciate a lie in, or time to see other friends. Or she might want to come with you.

Ifeeltheneedtheneedforcoffee · Today 22:37

I think its fine. I would invite her too and also say if she feels uncomfortable staying at home without you or heading out then if course you will skip a week
If she was stating just sat- Sunday I would miss it but she's got plenty of time with you

A quarter of the weekend? Did you miss that the friend is coming Sat to Wed? They don't have to spend every minute together over 5 days!

Sorry I’m a practising Christian and you are completely wrong.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · Today 22:39

I'm an atheist. I wouldn't mind in the slightest if a friend wanted to go to church while I was visiting.

I probably wouldn't want to go with you, but I would be more than happy to just have a slow morning.

A decent friend will understand that it's important to you and respect that. It is no big deal.

Freshrain · Today 22:39

Of course it's fine.
You have said you will invite her, but also say she can stay in your house. Up to your friend what they choose.

@NotAnotherScarf the friend is there Saturday to Wednesday, so there is plenty of time for them to do things together.

Exactly, the bible emphasises the importance of the church and collective worship, its integral to being a Christian

As a Catholic, I’m prod spotting!🤣

So was I. And no 99% of church services are about the social aspect.

Christ had no time for the organised Jewish faith "when two or three of you meet in my name"

You would feel snubbed because the friend who is generous enough to host you in her home for 5 days spent approx 90 minutes doing something without you? Do you think you may be a bit clingy?

It's important to her because she says it is.
It's not for you to decide what's important

No st Paul emphasized it...much of what he said is actually contrary to christs teaching. Saul was a small time official in the Jewish faith, he saw a rising new Jewish sect muscled in and altered it
