Panic buying next week?

Ok very random but I work in retail and we’ve been told to expect panic buying/shortages on fuel next week due to something big happening. Am I really naive as when I was told this I have no idea what it is about? I do read the news in the morning but I haven’t seen anything that would relate to this?

Massive shortages of what? I did my weekly food shop in Tesco today and the shelves were fully stocked. No shortage of anything.

I am getting reminders of the Covid times where people were posting threads about their DH/DP who makes banners, and they were being asked to make ones about ever more escalating lockdowns that never happened. Like, you were not allowed to open your windows etc.

I have noticed a shortage of multi pack of baked beans... and also the massive bottles of water. But I live in an area where a lot of people tend to buy bottled water anyway.

That would be a blessing.

Don’t forget all the WhatsApps people’s mates in the army had got about rehearsals for the Queen’s funeral, about a year before she actually died

Will be interesting to know next week, whether the person who told her, is correct or not.

There are meat shortages in my local morrisons,
the shelves look bare. Water bottles are selling quickly and alot of products are staying out of stock for weeks. Is this panic buying?

Well there is Trump's Iran war which has been impacted oil suppliers, & of course Putin's war in Ukraine. & additional Houthi attacks on other straits that oil would usually travel down

Or the Covid ones where every Facebooker and their dog had a friend in the army who had been put on standby to go and enforce lockdown or some such.

It's amazing that those who are so close to the centre of power in Britain and truly 'in the know,' decide to go and work on the shop floor in Tesco.

It’s not a big secret Trump has imposed a diesel ban that is going to cause major supply issues. Seriously does no one on mumsnet read the news!

@ForeverTheOptomist I agree it's going to get very bad within a decade or two, but not by next week. It's odd how oblivious people are, when the warning signs are clanging so loudly.

I saw this on the news this morning! Midterms are coming up and hes hoping a 90 day ban on diesel exports would drastically lower the cost over there.

I don't really understand why there are so many bitchy replies on this thread. It's not some kind of conspiracy. Leaders are concerned and panic buying is a real potential issue.

You bought six and a half years' worth of loo roll? Do you have an absolutely massive garage or have some weird sheet limit thing going on?

Until reading this thread I hadn’t actually realised that yeah if diesel runs out, and haulage companies can’t get goods to shops and people can’t get around, it will be really useful to have a little stockpile of food!

I do remember the toilet roll shortages during Covid and how they were not caused by supplier shortages but purely by people panic buying large quantities.

There are always shortages at Morrisons. They’re struggling aren’t they?
