AIBU to not ask the nail technician to redo these nails?

Attached are some photos I had of my nails done professionally yesterday.

Im not a fussy person but I think these are bad? I was pretty upset because I don't treat myself very often. I'm getting them fixed by another nail tech tomorrow (at full.price). DH thinks I should go back and complain for a redo but i don't have it in me, she was so lovely and worked really hard.

He thinks I'm a sap!

What is it? BIAB? Gels? Doesn’t look good sorry OP :(

Edinvillian · 12/09/2026 21:10

They are bad, I would definitely complain.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/09/2026 21:10

Not great. They look dirty. Sorry. Like you have dirt under your nails. Was this how you wanted it or did she choose the design?

SilveryBear · 12/09/2026 21:11

At a passing glance it looks like your nails are really dirty. I’m sorry Op - they are bad. She may have worked hard, but it’s not a good outcome. I’m sort of with your DH here. I think she needs a bit of constructive feedback so she knows she needs to work on her technique!

hourspassed · 12/09/2026 21:11

The colour combo is weird and makes your nails look dirty. The flat top of the nails doesn't fit with the curved line? Is that what you asked for? It's not great - the lines are wonky but I've seen worse.

I genuinely thought there was dirt under the nails.

If you came to me with those nails I would refuse to them, because of the damage to your cuticles. Keep oiling them and they should heal. Slightly worried you have inflammation in a few, keep an eye on them.

jhonni · 12/09/2026 21:13

Did you have a reference photo? This looks like my son's nails after a day of forest school! I would go back and ask her to fix them and if still bad ask for a refund.

Savoretti · 12/09/2026 21:14

The line of gold is what makes them look really bad, but as a PP the shape of the nails doesn’t really work with it either.
what did you ask for?

I agree with this. Awful. Sorry OP.

Even I can see that to achieve this your nails need to be longer and the line across the top needs to be gold and very obviously gold, straight across not following your nail shape. Looks like she shouldn't be doing nails! I mean did she really look at them and think 'they look great?

FastFood · 12/09/2026 21:17

The design was bad in the first place. That line looks like dirt.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 12/09/2026 21:17

They’re poorly executed which adds to the dirty nail effect.

Hellyk1985 · 12/09/2026 21:18

I chose the design but said if it wasn't possible to recreate with my nails that's fine and we could come up with something else. My nails were quite long prior..

They are really bad. Oval shaped nail with a dirt line then squared off tips? Why would the nail tech do that?

Mummy2mybear · 12/09/2026 21:19

The line looks more green not gold.

LuckyHazelFox · 12/09/2026 21:20

I can see what you were trying to achieve from your inspiration pic and they look nice. She can't be a professional nail tech with what she has produced.

Hadenough32 · 12/09/2026 21:21

Oooh sorry op these are really bad. They're too short and the gold line looks like a muddy bronze. Very very bad work. The lines aren't even uniformed, they don't match. This is shoddy amateur work.
I wouldn't want her redoing them. I'd be asking for a full refund in a message with the photos. Explain you're having to pay to have them re done. If she refuses a refund leave her a review with these photos on every platform possible

Hadenough32 · 12/09/2026 21:23

Just to add I often had this design but with a silver line and oval nails and looks lovely and I'm am often complimented on them.

Buttercup211 · 12/09/2026 21:23

Is she newly qualified? These look more like someone who is training and needing to practise

Hellyk1985 · 12/09/2026 21:23

For DH to say there were bad, I thought they must be BAD. Can't bring myself to complain but lesson learnt! Definitely a proper nail tech working in a well established salon

Yikes. They are awful.
Edited cos somehow I missed thst you're going to a different person for a redo.
Wise decision.

If you're not going to get your money back, just don't use her again. Are you going for the same design again with the other tech?

No going for something much simpler. Lost my confidence now. First nail appointment I've managed to treat myself to in a couple of years
