To say all pro-Palestinians should watch Fauda on Netflix?

Now it is a drama about how the Israeli security services deal with the conflict but it is apparently pretty accurate and is amazingly well produced and acted.

Season 5, which covers Oct 7th has just come out after a long delay.

I've had to take a break after episode 7 because it's so distressing but it still doesn't even come close to what happened that day.

I think it's gives a clearer idea as to the truth of what has been going on and it does try to give a perspective from both sides.

I think every pro-Palestinian should watch it.

I am referring to the slander and defamation case that Israel has said they will bring against the NYT.

In such a case, the onus will be on the Israeli government to prove that the contents of the article were written in malice.

That may depend on whether it can be construed as just general libel or specifically as a blood libel. Blood libels are spurious claims made with the specific intent of causing violence or harm to Jewish people, and are actually counted under legal definitions of antisemitism.

DabOfPistachio · 13/09/2026 14:42

Children dying in a conflict doesn't automatically prove deliberate targeting. 50% of the population of Gaza are under 18: it is therefore tragically inevitable that children will be killed.
This is true, especially when children are used as human shields and as underage combatants like Hamas does. One of the reasons that so many buildings have been destroyed in Gaza is because this is urban warfare with homes and buildings booby trapped as well of course as the entire tunnel network running underneath it as well as extensive use of buried IED bombs intended for IDF soldiers in areas meant to be cleared.
One of the more horrifying graphics you can see of the war is when you look the sex and age distribution of the child deaths. It rises sharply for boys aged around 12 and up. Hamas is documented as running military 'summer camps' turning kids into 'combatants'. That absolutely breaks my heart.

My references to Iraq were a relevant comparison, used for illustrative purposes. Not because I thought you were talking about Iraq. We don't take the large number of children killed in Iraq as "evidence" of deliberate targeting, notwithstanding George Bush's comments about Shock and Awe.

Your position is therefore based on assumption and misrepresenting my argument. Both of these are logical fallacies. This is the definition of "arguing in bad faith". I will leave the reader to decide which of us was actually doing this

A bad faith argument is a dishonest discussion where a person's hidden goal is to trick, provoke, or "win" rather than to find the truth or reach an agreement.
The person pretending to have a serious discussion actually has a hidden agenda. They do not care about the facts or about changing their mind.

Key Signs of Bad Faith Arguments

  • Moving the goalposts: Changing the rules or demands as soon as their original point is proven wrong.
  • Ignoring facts: Pretending valid counterarguments or clear evidence do not exist.
  • Asking insincere questions: Posing questions just to trap or mock the other person, not to learn the answer.

You are twisting what I have said in this very post. I have not said there is anything wrong with you talking about Iraq and bringing up death figures from the Iraq war.

The post of mine you are replying to here was pointing out your disingenuousness in pretending you thought my Vaturi reference was about your Iraq comments when it was,
pretty obviously, about your child terrorist comments. It was nothing to do with you bringing up Iraq or the figures which was completely valid. And it was clarified what I meant in that very post, in case of confusion, yet still you are saying I was talking about your mention of Iraq.

But yes, I think we can safely let any one reading to make their own judgement on who is arguing in bad faith here.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 13/09/2026 14:46

Haven't seen it so can't comment. However I can't see why something accurately depicting the horrors of an attack on innocent people would make a person supportive of more attacks on innocent people. Unless of course you believe that one type of human life is more valuable than another?

As per the law, it still falls within defamation and as per the law, the standard of proof is still malice.

Modern Legal Standard: Suing Over a "Blood Libel"
If an individual or organization sues someone for making such an allegation, the case falls under standard Defamation (Libel) Law.

I mean you are misusing terminology which has a very specific meaning and application such as "Apartheid" and "genocide" as well as misrepresenting my argument. See above.

I used “apartheid” in relation to apartheid South Africa. What objection do you have to that usage and what misunderstanding do you think I am under?

EnglishLady02 · 13/09/2026 14:55

Re: the 70-80% civilian casualty claims. Hamas own figures don't support this and haven't for some time. Their own breakdown says of the 70,000 killed 25,000 were Hamas operatives and they threw in 10,000 natural deaths for good measure.

I actively like to watch things that have a contrary position to mine, I’m happy to be given information that would potentially make me more informed and reinforce my original belief or, change my stance.

Well if the rhetoric surrounding October 7th is anything to go by I'd say that bias is alarmingly prevalent. Videos of the attack and its aftermath have been called "Zionist propaganda", people have peddled conspiracies about the victims being killed by their own government, and we saw people literally celebrating in the streets one day later.

Are you under the impression that people who are horrified by what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank don’t realise that the 7th October massacre was also utterly horrifying?

I hate this adversarial mindset.

Well said

So in addition to only using “apartheid”
in relation to South Africa, I haven’t used the word “genocide” at all.

I’ve reread my posts (and I didn’t think I’d find it as it’s not a word I tend to bandy about) and I can’t see it.

Perhaps you could screenshot my use of “genocide” to show me EnglishLady, and if you can, I will apologise.

Otherwise, it’s really isn’t looking like you are replying to me in good faith, is it?

Oh god here we go with the genocide nonsense. People really really need to open their eyes and see the reality of what they are supporting by supporting Hamas and Palestine ! And understand their ideology and aims!

Are you still on this? You're not addressing my argument or points at all, you're just yelling at me at this point. The very definition of "arguing in bad faith".

I’m not yelling. I’m pointing out that you accused me of saying things that I didn’t.

I used “apartheid” only in relation to South Africa and I haven’t used “genocide” at all. You cannot deny this so instead of apologising you accuse me of yelling at you.

It’s completely obvious what you’re trying to do. It won’t work.

You bought up "Apartheid" to suggest Gazans were deliberately being targeted on racial grounds. They're not. Be done with it now.

No, I used apartheid South Africa as an analogy as you can see if you follow the discussion up to that post. You may have interpreted my use differently, but that’s your interpretation not my use.

Yes, and they've been doing it for years: but its not just summer camps. This is a kindergarten. Its a war crime but also just child abuse of the worst kind.

Edited

I think for a 2 state solution to have any hope of working in the long term there will have you be a similar programne like the denazification that happened in Germany when the war finished. When radicalisation of a population has been so ingrained and widespread starting before kindergarten it's going to be a long process.

They're not being "wiped out". Not even close. Less than 3% of the population of Gaza have died in 3 years and many of those were natural deaths.

To put this into perspective: Saudi Arabia killed ten times more people in Yemen then the total of all casualties in Gaza. Sudan, its twenty times more and nobody calls either of those "genocide".

And then there's 10/7: 1200 people killed in one day- most of them civilians. The third worst terrorist attack in history, and not just that but the worst killing of Jews since the Holocaust. And no condemnation from most of the world.

Israel doesn't speak for all Jews, sure, but its home to half the Jewish population on earth. By deeming mass murder of Israelis as acceptable or vilifying all of them we're setting a dangerous precedent.
