To think that Labour’s/Andy Burnham’s tariffs on Jewish Settlers and their statement on Palestine is a well timed publicity stunt to divert attention from their complete lack of inaction regarding illegal migrants arriving by boat.

I don’t meant to be cynical but I think Labour have done this to carry favour with those who want to ditch Labour for the Green Party. We all know Labour isn’t run by its leader, instead by their back benchers!

What the Settlers are doing on the West Bank is horrific, however Labour were not being so vocal a few weeks ago when the rest of the world was. It feels a ‘well-timed’ publicity stunt to take away attention from their complete inaction about the amount of illegal immigrants arriving in this country. I was appalled by the protests over the weekend. And as a woman with a daughter, these thugs do not protest in my name. However, the government MUST address the fact that we have thousands of undocumented male immigrants coming into the UK free to go wherever they want. Andy Burnham is happy to house them in their thousands wherever he sees fit and I have not heard him OR his government talk about women’s safety once. Burnham can make as many cosy ‘I’m just a man who goes to Greggs and likes a pint.’ Videos as he wants but until he acknowledges how undocumented men pose a great risk to women’s safety, I won’t be supporting him or his party.

Please do not come up with facts and stats about white British males, I am acutely aware of the violence they also inflict against women and equally appalled by the Government’s inaction over this. But I find it horrific that if you have no documents and the government have no idea who you are you’re free to roam. This should not be allowed.

I feel so ignored as a woman in the UK our safety and wellbeing is way down the governments’ long list of priorities. I’m sick of the back benchers and those swaying to the far left or far right being given so much air time, whilst those of us in the middle are ignored day in and day out I voted for Labour in the last election but never again!

No, the numbers of people arriving by boat, and migration generally, are significantly down on recent years, so your theory doesn't add up.

However the sanctions are just a token signal, and probably won't make any difference to Israeli govt.

They send a message and they are in line with other countries. I am not an expert on Israeli politics but I do know there is an election there soon and hope for a less hard-line government.

Although it does seem to have upset them enough to close the British consulate.

@Zonderyes! It was disgusting and horrendous. Also, the way that Jenrick then mocked the women who were attacked was sickening and made a mockery of violence against women. I loathe Reform and if you saw in my original post I also have no time for the thuggery of the anti migrant protesters who claim to be doing it for the ‘women’ and ‘children’ - despite what some posters on this thread believe I am not a daily mail loving, right wing supporter! But I do passionately believe in women’s safety again ALL men - including (as I said) white British males. However, I am concerned about undocumented illegal male immigrants who come to the UK. That seems to upset a lot of people on this thread. And that’s ok, we’re allowed to have different opinions.

People blindly ignoring the very changes taking place around them. My local area has changed beyond recognition and we are fully aware that the people here now running businesses (Afghan and Albanian here locally) have such a grip on the local community (trafficking, drugs, brothels, money laundering all openly operating in plain view) and the NCA unable to tackle it. It may or may not have happened in your area yet, but don’t worry it will. The rise in crime alongside that on my formerly lovely area (stabbings, assaults, robberies, sexual violence, shoplifting) is happening everywhere. Most of these are not reported. Or in my case, they are reported and the police do follow up (three times…) yes. I do link it with the arrival of undocumented young men, it’s a global business and we are politely fiddling whilst Rome burns!

I doubt there's anyone who would disagree with you about violence against women on here. However clearly there's disagreement with you on what's going on with the small boats.

These boats are used as a dog whistle by the far right, blowing everything out of proportion. Your comment about the lack of action (which you have said is what you meant) is clearly wrong.

11AndCounting · 09/09/2026 07:40

Can we start putting on chartered jets for the Calais lot, so I can go a day without hearing about the fucking boats?

So fucking tedious.

It’s a crass tactic to pander to the Muslim vote in the upcoming by-election resulting from Starmer’s exit which will be Labour vs Green.

I never thought I’d have to live being governed by an openly anti semitic government. I can’t imagine how awful it must be for any Jewish people as they are seen as collateral damage by the Labour Party who are reliant on the Muslim vote to survive.

If it's a crass tactic because of the by-election, why do you think 11 other countries took the same step yesterday?

How exactly are they "anti semitic"? As they have dared to criticise Israeli behaviour?

bluespotsandztarz · 09/09/2026 07:46

@Zonderyes I do realise small boats if 100% a far right issue and I would also say Palestine is a far left issue! Believe it or not I’m not the devil incarnate for my opinion. I’ve very down the middle with my politics but violence against women is something I do care about and I do not like the fact this government aren’t taking women’s concerns seriously! That doesn’t mean I am a racist or horrible human being or part of the Daily Mail brigade. But I also totally appreciate your point of view and the points you raise! Probably shouldn’t post on Mumsnet until I’ve had a coffee! Haha x

Yeah absolutely.

12 other countries announced sanctions to prevent sanctions because there's a UK bielection in a month's time - and if it goes badly for Labour, their majority would drop from 167 to 166 - disaster!!!

No wonder the world is taking action.

Really insightful post.

Well done!!!

BOATS!!!!

How very convenient.

@Thepeopleversusworki haven’t said that the small boat crossings haven’t decreased but the I have said the numbers arriving are still high and I would say it is the biggest issue in our country right now! I don’t really care for Milliband’s pet projects. With the previous government it was Net Zero and with this one it is Palestine. My main issue, is the fact that thousands of undocumented men are entering the country but for some reason, I’m meant to be OK with that?

Ed Miliband's 'pet project' is supported by Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden who all released a joint statement. Are they all just trying to deflect from small boat crossings too?

CrispySquid · 09/09/2026 07:50
  1. Small boat crossings are down by such a significant number its actually quite astonishing how quickly they have had an impact. Look at the Home Office statistics. Down significantly. It's not to do with the boat size or the number of people per boat but the number of individuals crossing - down significantly.
  2. In order to govern, Governments have to and actually are able to focus on more than one problem at a time.

Please clarify what exactly is antisemitic about the government's actions?

Do you think it is possible to criticise the Israeli government without being antisemitic?

Do you think it is antisemitic to be concerned about the actions of the Israeli settlers?

Is there a way in which the UK government could have taken action on these issues without you concluding that they were antisemitic? What do you think they should have done differently?

I thought Ed Miliband chose his words very carefully yesterday and that he tried to make the distinctions very clear. I am very interested in understanding what exactly you perceived to be antisemitic.

Perhaps we should begin by calling these so called settlers by the name we normally apply to individuals and groups who illegally take over property which belongs to someone else - SQUATTERS.

Calling the significant and complex issues re Palestine a “pet project” is really fucking offensive.

And bleating on about protecting women and girls is so pathetically transparent.
