Two-tier face covering bans?

So, some cities are going to introduce bans against face coverings- but it only applies to some people? Am I alone in thinking this is two-tier justice?

I have a sneaky suspicion that all the electric bike and scooter oiks are suddenly going to convert, identify as women and take up burka wearning.

I think you might be mixing up the racist thugs effectively intimidating the residents of our southern ports this weekend with petty criminals who now entirely cover their faces to avoid being spotted on CCTV.

Well she can, in the same way she can wear a hijab, because it's currently considered against her human rights to disallow it.

I just think she shouldn't, if she is in a job where her personal religious and political beliefs should be very secondary to her role as a public servant, and she should present as completely impartial.

The people in my area who wears balaclavas are wearing them to conceal their identity - mainly kids on illegal motorbikes or shoplifters. Most of the Muslim women just wear a headscarf here. I worked in a job centre for many years and if a lady wore a full face covering a female member of staff would ask her to remove her face covering in private just to check against photographic ID. It was never an issue, they were happy to confirm their identity as they weren't using their face covering to conceal criminal activity.

Well I think we know what the op is talking about but it is not the point of the policy. People, probably young people but we really don’t know who they are, are committing crimes with faces covered so balaclavas need to be banned in certain places. If there’s a spate of crimes by ladies in niqabs then it will be looked at but I’m not aware of any! (I know several niqab wearing women and all are law abiding!)

They could and should have left out the ‘non religious’ part because the important aspect of the group who they want to prevent wearing face coverings is ‘if they have reason to believe they are hiding their identity to commit crime or intimidate others.’

But if a Jewish person comes to work in a hospital and then has to remove their kippah, they are having to hide their identity. It was terrible around here when Jewish kids had to remove their star of David because of fear of attacks. We need to have zero tolerance of prejudice.

Oh now that's a bit unfair. I happen to know a very sensible wedding cake maker who uses the word two tier quite a lot. Often she gets a bit excited and goes 3 tier.
