Two-tier face covering bans?

So, some cities are going to introduce bans against face coverings- but it only applies to some people? Am I alone in thinking this is two-tier justice?

If you are wearing something for a sensible reason you may have to remove it to be identified if asked by Police, ie, if you wrap a scarf round your face on a freezing day. I assume the op didn't like the religious reasons exception, again I think you have to remove for identification by the police. Balaclavas are rarely worn for religious reasons though.

No woman needs to hide her face in 2026 , so if people can’t wear balaclavas and face coverings it should be a universal ban on all face covers .

I fully support banning balaclavas. I do not think we should ban religious face coverings.

There is a difference between a woman choosing to wear a face covering and (usually) men wearing balaclavas on "protests" or kids wearing them when they are delivering drugs on e-bikes. But hey, any excuse to have a pop at Muslims, eh?

I don't see any legitimate reason for buying / owning a black balaclava.

Motorcyclists often wear them under their helmets, it helps to stop the visor fogging up and adds an extra layer for warmth. I've no idea why they're always black, but I've never seen them in any other colour.

My DF rode motorbikes when I was a kid and lightweight balaclavas weren't a thing. His face was like ice when he got home on a winter night.

I live in Nottingham and I also have a black balaclava. I use it when I walk the dog. I don’t use it to disguise who I am and push my way out of Sports Direct with armfuls of booty. Nor do I wear it when i jump up and down on the roof of Debenhams or to get on the bus with an old lady’s bus pass I’ve mixed up with my own. Accidentally. I don’t wear it when I go round the city with a big gang of my mates.

The problem is not the balaclavas it’s that many British want immigration,the boats controlled and that the Gov won’t do it -I mean this is what caused Brexit- so the Gov instead of sorting immigration bans St George flags, balaclavas, I mean - do your job Gov don’t demonise the British whilst using RnLI to rescue illegal immigrants - why are you in Parliament -for the pension??

It isn’t a choice . They have pressure out upon them by men to wear one . It’s to stop other men having lustful thoughts about them . It’s about control .

It sounds similar to Westfield shopping centres, which don't allow hoodies to be worn on the head within the centres but does allow hijab.

I don't think a woman wearing a face covering to stop men having lustful thoughts is a legitimate reason.
Islamic face coverings are a symbol of female oppression, and have no place in British society. They should be banned. As should the wearing of religious symbols, including hijab, by anyone working for the state.

Because its clearly designed to prevent immigration protests that used face coverings quite effectively at the weekend.

People have been wearing face coverings for donkey's years and nothing has been done about it. I was approached by a gang with hoods and bandanas 20 years ago in south London.

Why now? It's to stamp out dissent and is disgusting.
