Is the trans kids trend over? Aibu to wonder what happened to the kids caught up in it in the 2010s?

As we know the period from the mid 10s to early 20s has been described as “woke 1” and is apparently “over”.
When I was at secondary school in the 2010s, there were four trans kids in my year group (3 FTMs and one mtf) the one mtf was autistic and in foster care. I was always nice to them and kept my views to myself but I’m wondering what’s going on with them now, they’ve completely dropped off the radar. None of them have social media accounts and no one else I went to school with had heard from them.

My daughter has just entered year 5 and doesn’t know any trans kids or even what one is, my neighbours teenage children don’t know any either and they’re the age I was when four classmates transitioned.

I know there’s a lot of teachers on mumsnet would this be your experience too?

Ive tried googling this but everyone seems to have moved on from it I think there may be a forgotten generation who’s lives have been ruined

Testosterone can cause vaginal prolapse and brittle bone disease in women. It was suggested some years ago this was the reason for the increase in disabled T people.
My daughters friend had the prolapse. Five days in hospital.

I am disabled and walk with a stick and I can tell these 'fashion' fakers that there's enough discrimination out there without this nonsense.

It seems mostly (from my observations and conversations) to be quite young "non-binary" females who are not taking hormones that have suddenly started to carry ornamental walking-sticks. So I am unsure they will yet have been crippled by their medical life-choices.

Every transwoman is a man and men should not be in women's prisons for reasons of safety, privacy and to protect the dignity of women, even incarcerated ones. And it's not always about rape.

Why should any man be in a woman’s prison?

I was SAd by a woman as a teenager so deliberately phrased it that way to reflect exactly what I mean: that anyone who is a danger to a woman should not be around a women’s prison, incarcerated, as staff or anything else.

I wasn’t looking to discuss this anyway. It was just in reply to your example of women’s prisons when I was literally just saying “I have a friend who doesn’t regret it and is much happier”.

Does that mean that you think women who sexually assault other women should be placed in a mens prison?

Well the reason prisons entered the chat is because we need to know where boundaries should be drawn.

So someone presenting as atypically for their sex, I doubt anyone has an issue with.

However if this person has an expectation they should use facilities provided for the opposite sex, then that’s a different situation.

I'm a teacher in a large girls secondary. I've been there since the start of this trend (2014?) and at it's height there was a group of about 14 girls asking for he/they pronouns. Now there's 2.
There's been very clear guidance here in NI that no teacher is obliged to use either new names or pronouns yet it is still just announced by pastoral/SENCO that we must use them and taken for granted that we will and parents are told that we will.
Every single pupil I've taught who asks for this has been doing this instead of doing any school work.

This really doesn't surprise me at all.

And that's a major issue isn't it? These children are being taught to be inward looking. To focus solely on themselves and how others treat them. They're not looking outwards, observing and trying out peer relationships, sports, hobbies, teams and groups that lead to becoming functioning adults.

They're not developing healthy relationships or building resilience. It's very sad to see - and infuriating as the responsible adults around them have abdicated their responsibilities, encouraging them to become professional victims rather than do what adolescents are meant to do - to develop from being little children to navigate being a teenager /adolescent in order to become an adult able to function in society.

I didn't know this but will look it up now thanks. I work with kids and have one with a physical condition that has been showing unusual behaviours especially anxiety related and I'm wondering now should we be exploring an autism assessment.

The comorbidity of ASD and hypermobility was discussed in a training course I did when I was working in an SEN school 30 years ago. It infuriates me that this link is still not commonly acknowledged.

Please can you explain what hyper mobility is?
My Dd is able to move her thumbs in strange ways we or anyone I know can't, is this classed as hypermobility? I suspect Nd too

I think we are starting to see the cracks in “woke 1” (interesting name but accurate!). Generations tend to reject what came before. I’m seeing more young Gen Zers who will eventually turn to Gen Alpha (as in, Gen Alpha will continue this) reject some of the more ridiculous stuff. Like there was video of someone saying their pronouns were “Ne Nim Nir” (no, I have no idea how that works either 😂) and there was a reply video from a young gay guy just despairing about it and saying he’s not going to use literally made up pronouns that make no sense.

I’m also seeing content from trans women who are against the more militant trans activists who insist that trans women must be treated as women, allowed into women’s sports, women only spaces etc. There are actually a lot of trans people who are moderate on the issue i.e. puberty blockers and hormones shouldn’t be taken before puberty, we shouldn’t pretend that trans women can have periods, women shouldnt be oppressed, intimidated and silenced by trans women etc.

I’m hopefully we can settle on a space where trans people and non binary people are confident to live their lives in peace without hate or harassment. But also as a wider society to understand that these conditions are rare - they are a minority. And if a child can’t get a tattoo, join the military, get married or vote, they sure as shit should not be able to take life changing hormones that could fuck up their bodies forever. We are also seeing waves of people who regret transitioning young and live with the health consequences - overwhelmingly FTM.

My daughter can be what she wants to be. But I intend to teach her about misogyny and that the route to combat it is not to make yourself a man or non binary, if that’s the real reason you want to transition or identify as non binary. Generations of women who have passed their mitochondrial DNA down to you have been oppressed and fought and clung to life and gone through childbirth to produce you. We should not betray their efforts by deciding that womanhood is inferior. We should fight for women and girls and welcome those who support us, including transwomen who truly support women and don’t mansplain womanhood as a costume. That’s what we should be teaching, rather than denying yourself any discomfort.

@Littlebearbutadog, it’s a broad group of issues stemming from connective tissue laxity. Unstable flexible joints, soft stretchy skin, easy bruising, digestive issues/IBS, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, and some cardiac issues are the main ones.

I don't think it is a 'trend'. This is an illness and needs to be addressed as such. A trend is Nike air forces.

It absolutely is a trend. FtM/non-binary took over from eating disorders for a while in high school age girls. It does signify mental health issues, but unfortunately a few very loud toxic TRAs managed to make it a hanging offence to point this out.
