Is the trans kids trend over? Aibu to wonder what happened to the kids caught up in it in the 2010s?

As we know the period from the mid 10s to early 20s has been described as “woke 1” and is apparently “over”.
When I was at secondary school in the 2010s, there were four trans kids in my year group (3 FTMs and one mtf) the one mtf was autistic and in foster care. I was always nice to them and kept my views to myself but I’m wondering what’s going on with them now, they’ve completely dropped off the radar. None of them have social media accounts and no one else I went to school with had heard from them.

My daughter has just entered year 5 and doesn’t know any trans kids or even what one is, my neighbours teenage children don’t know any either and they’re the age I was when four classmates transitioned.

I know there’s a lot of teachers on mumsnet would this be your experience too?

Ive tried googling this but everyone seems to have moved on from it I think there may be a forgotten generation who’s lives have been ruined

“Yes my ASD child just didn’t like the sensation of long hair. She’s fairly sick of people asking her if she’s trans or gay. Trans has dragged us all back to the age of tiresome stereotypes. Can’t we just have short hair without it being a scandal?”

The irony of the trans agenda actually cementing and entrenching gender stereotypes is huge. After several generations of women campaigning to break free of these baseless stereotypes, a bunch of men in dresses and wigs decide they have certain feelz and suddenly a girl with short hair is actually a boy. It’s ridiculous.

I think its on purpose, tbh.

I'm not sure if many lives have been ruined. The only trans dc at ds's school was ftm and 13yo. The one in the class who was always keen to shock people, sailed close to the wind legally etc.

She met a boy that she liked at 6th form college and seems happy being female now.

Many lives are ruined.
Have you not read detransitioner stories?

Actually, I feel that the deliberate maiming and/or medical crippling of a single individual is one too many. More just makes it worse, but one is enough to be abhorrent.

I’ve spent the morning moving my dd into halls. I must have seen at least thirty students with walking sticks this morning.

But it is "trans was murdered because of being trans" because the victim was trans, even though the trans status seems to have been largely irrelevant. Bad luck to know a seriously disturbed adolescent who had an obsession with murder, but that would have been the case whether the victim had been trans or not.

Brianna is the only trans victim of murder in the UK that I can find listed at Wikipedia, but I think they may have missed a few; I have a feeling it may be as many as seven per decade this century. If she is the only one, the case that trans people are more at risk than any other sector of the population is definitely not proven, especially given that her sexuality seems to have been irrelevant.

I think it’s maybe 10 since 2007, when counting started.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/09/2026 17:10

Thank you! I seemed unable to find that information in a site I felt reliable.

The figure leads immediately to wondering how many trans murderers there have been in the same time-period, doesn't it. Hmm.

Quite a few still in the secondary girls' school I teach at, including one who's just had a name change on the register this year. I think it must be particularly confusing for them that they (all FTM obviously) are attending a girls' school and tend to stay for GCSEs. And then their name on the official exam records, and I presume certificates, is their original one.

You also do notice how many - majority - are ND girls, particularly autistic. We have been told about new guidance during INSET that schools should not initiate social transitioning. For my part, I will call the kids whatever makes them feel comfortable and has already been officially changed by the school eg name on register, but I worry for them.

Fore your school follow the Cass guidance and require a medical letter before socially transitioning children?

Undoubtedly most are ND or have mental health problems like depression or both. Strangely though, my ASD child is the opposite. He sees everything in black and white, so he can’t get his head around trans at all. It just doesn’t compute for him. Luckily there less of it around and he has gained coping mechanism with things that turn his understanding the universe on its head, but there was a point when he found trans and the school pandering to falsehoods around biology really distressing.

This paper from February 2026 has surveyed all transgender homicides in the UK over 25 years. there were 11 transgender people unlawfully killed & 15 transgender perpetrators.

Abstract
Transgender people are often portrayed as especially vulnerable to violence, but estimating victimization rates is difficult because reliable population denominators are lacking. This paper proposes an alternative approach, comparing the ratio of transgender homicide victims to perpetrators. It analyzes all homicides involving transgender people in Britain from 2000 to 2025. Victims were outnumbered by perpetrators, even excluding those who declared a transgender identity after imprisonment. Almost all cases involved natal males identifying as transwomen. The victim-perpetrator ratio among these individuals closely resembles that for males overall and differs markedly from that for females. BBC News published more than four times as many articles on transgender victims as on perpetrators, contributing to perceptions of exceptional vulnerability.

Sorry I don't understand, maybe I've missed something. Why did they have walking sticks, were they suffering from a disability? The thread is about trans kids, not sure if you meant to post here.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/09/2026 21:05

Walking sticks are the new way to signal that you are special and different and your taste in sexual partners or lack of them must be proclaimed in some way. As if it were universally interesting.

AngelaP71 · 11/09/2026 21:11

I haven't noticed it (walking stick "trend") at my daughter's uni but will have a look around next time I visit.

I’m confused. So walking sticks are to do with your sexuality, and not people with mobility problems being more confident to use them?

I think the idea is that a walking stick is the new fashion (“queerness” being the old one) to position oneself for success in the victimhood olympics.

I cannot confirm or deny this in my own experience.

More useful information here, 2021 article

"Even though we’ve seen a sharp rise in the number of people who identify as transgender in the last few years, a trans person hasn’t been murdered in the UK for <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.is/o/dvW1E/www.bromsgroveadvertiser.co.uk/news/17961867.murder-trial-following-death-transgender-woman-adjourned-next-year/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">nearly three years and there are, for example, no reports ever of a trans person in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland being murdered.
Moreover, not one of even the eleven people Transrespect says were murdered, were killed due to “transphobia”. The victim in each case was typically murdered by a male sexual partner due to drugs or money issues. None were killed by a woman — and one was killed by a <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.is/o/dvW1E/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-16305570" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">man who identifies as a woman.'

The BBC has a lot to answer for.

Able-bodied young women are carrying them to signal their totally enthralling sexuality, yes.

This must be a right pain for people who actually need them.

Kalalily · 12/09/2026 15:19

Give me walking sticks any day. Apart from this trend being hugely irritating to people who actually need to use them for mobility issues, no harm done. Throw them in the corner when your MH improves and crack on with life

Do they have different colours for different sexualities?

(Can’t read the Kathleen Stock article so I don’t know if she explains it there)
