Would a Beautifect Mini be a disappointing birthday present if empty?

Thinking of buying the beautifect mini for a birthday present for D.d. My D.h thinks its expensive for what it is and that it would be shit to just receive it empty so therefore would need to spend more money filling it. What do you think? Dd is really into makeup and already has a styl pro but I thought the beautifect is a bit more grown up and luxury, just thought it was a nice idea for a big birthday. Would it be shit to receive it empty? It cost £150 for the mini one

I thought this was going to be about a car based on the thread title! It seems incredibly expensive but if that's what you really want to get for your DD then yes, I think you'd have to put at least a couple of make up items in it although not fill it if she's already got lots of stuff.

kookieCrumbles · 18/08/2026 22:50

Couldnt you just give her the £150 to spend on what she likes? Can’t imagine many people would be happy with an empty makeup case. There’s probably another items she’d rather have.

PurplebudsWhitebuds · 18/08/2026 22:55

I thought you were intending to buy her a car!
Never heard of a Beautifect Mini!
What age will she be this birthday OP?

Pigginbeautiful · 18/08/2026 22:57

If she travels a great deal, then she’ll love it! But if not, I think giving the £150 cash would be better.

Dragonflyspeeding · 18/08/2026 22:59

I had to look up what it was. Why are they so expensive?
I’d put some products into it tbh.

Not sure why they are so expensive, the mirror inside is meant to be really good?

I just googled it and it seems like a massive rip off.

I could give her the money but all the family will give her money and I think money is a bit thoughtless. She never really asks for anything and I thought it was nice as she likes her makeup! Shes going to be 16, doesnt want anything, birthday near xmas so also have that

£150 for a plastic makeup bag? Really?

Give her the money instead.

Merryoldgoat · 18/08/2026 23:04

I love makeup and stuff and would rather have the money spent of products.

There are plenty of nice budget alternatives.

TheWytch · 18/08/2026 23:05

It's made of plastic! That is a ridiculous price

Yesiamstressedactually · 18/08/2026 23:06

Would she prefer an Elizabeth Scarlett open flat makeup bag, then you have money left over to fill it.

Seems more like what a 16 year old would love.

Is this a joke?

GottaBeStrong · 18/08/2026 23:10

I wouldn't buy it unless she absolutely desperately wanted it. It's a rip off.

But it is for travel or sleepovers, hence the mini, it’s going to be very small and not much use for everyday.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 18/08/2026 23:10

So it's a plastic make up box bag.

with straps to turn it into a bag.

I would be buying her favourite / usual lipstick, mascara, foundation etc. to put in it.

As you can't give an empty bag, it's like buying someone a purse and not putting a £1 coin in it for luck.

Does your daughter even know about this ' bag ' has she mentioned it ?
or is it something you have happened upon ?

if she doesn't actually want anything, why would you spend 150 on a bit of tat instead of putting the money away towards driving lessons or a car or something she actually wants when there is something she actually wants?

And 150 on a make up bag for a 16yo is ridiculous.

Shatenoeuf · 18/08/2026 23:11

This post feels like a plug for a cheap looking product none of us have heard of

Bingo.

Ffs22 · 18/08/2026 23:13

Waste of money imo. Buy some nice skincare products, makeup and perfume instead. No one needs a £150 makeup bag.

Joliefolie · 18/08/2026 23:14

It’s such a rip off. All cosmetics are a rip off of course but it’s fine to encourage her to use good quality ones that work and last. It would be crazy to buy this and to encourage your child to think this was a good use of money.

Stinkybooks · 18/08/2026 23:16

A mirror is a mirror.

I would buy her a much much cheaper box/bag and either fill it with goodies she would like or vouchers for her to buy her favourites.

Because she likes her makeup! Doesnt like make up bags as they are harder to keep clean. She has a styl pro at the moment and she likes to clean all her make up brushes and wipe over her makeup so it doesnt get all messy. Shes always orgnaising it all. She doesnt 'want' anything but I'm not going to not get her anything for her bday. So was trying to think of something she might like
